Storm Weekend Update and Beauty Spotlight Team 4 March 2018

We had the second cyclone bomb storm in two months this weekend. It kind of threw a monkey wrench into my plans. High winds and heavy rain started on Friday. At 1:30pm, I lost my internet and landline phone connections. At 4:30pm, the power went out.

Jeff and I decided to go out to dinner rather than have to sit for hours in the dark. I bought a Groupon for a local restaurant that we had never tried but wanted to. We drove through the woods with falling trees and tree limbs to get to the restaurant. It was a nice, roadhouse kind of place. We ordered a couple of craft beers, while we figured out what we wanted to eat. While we were waiting for the server to return to take our food order, the power went off. She returned in the dark a few minutes later to take our order. I told her she should find out if the kitchen would be able to cook anything without power. Not surprisingly, they couldn’t. We paid for our drinks, and then drove several towns away to get away from the areas that we knew had no power. The whole process took a couple of hours, but we finally had a delicious Thai meal that we lingered over for as long as possible.

We went home, made a fire, turned on the Eton radio, and a lantern, and it was actually quite pleasant. Fortunately, the power came on again at midnight. We were so lucky because it was getting cold in the rest of the house away from the fireplace. Also we were fortunate to get the power back after “only” 7.5 hours because a few hundred thousand people were still without power. And today, Sunday, over 100,000 people along the southern MA shore are still without power.

This afternoon, I took a walk around the back of the house, and noticed the cover on the gas grill had blown off, but luckily it got caught on a boulder in the yard. Then, I walked to the side of the house and saw that my 15 year old wooden fence had collapsed. I’m going to see if it’s covered by my homeowner’s insurance. I hope the insurance might help pay for a handyman to finish taking it down and to dig up the big cement posts that are sunk into the ground to help hold it up. It could’ve been worse.

Jeff and I drove to Gloucester and Rockport to see the effect of the storm on the waves along the coast. I was shocked. I’ve never seen waves this big and strong in our area ever before. Quite amazing. The little video below was taken 4 hours after high tide when the waves were smaller. The video doesn’t do it justice, but it is beautiful anyway.

Hope the storm didn’t affect you where you live. Now on to this week’s posts from the Beauty Spotlight Team! Beauty Spotlight Team logo

But at least this time you did not have to Shovel SNOW 🙂

    1. You’re too funny, Gloria! You’re right. But finding someone to dispose of my collapsed fence is turning out to be impossible, and once I do, it will be expensive. And we’re expecting a Nor’easter with SNOW on Wednesday through Thursday 🙁
