Super Soft PeachSkin Sheets: Are They Cooling?

I usually buy 100% cotton sheet sets on sale at Homegoods, Marshalls, TJ Maxx, or Macy’s when I see sheets in the color and patterns that I like. My bedroom is decorated with butter yellow walls with aqua, blue and champagne accents. It sounds like an odd combination, but to me it works.

I love sheets that are aqua often with paisley or fleur de lys motifs. Several years ago, they weren’t hard to find at my usual home decor haunts. These days, everything is gray or white or taupe. I am not a neutral gal, so I have been on the hunt.

An ad on Facebook for PeachSkin Sheets must have popped up back in June. PeachSkin’s hook for me was that the sheets are designed for “hot sleepers”, to help keep them cooler. Some years ago, I bought a new queen size Simmons memory foam mattress that was huge, heavy, but was supposed to stay cooler than other memory foam mattresses. Well, I’m not sure it turned out the way I hoped, because every morning I wake up between 5 and 6:30am feeling very hot or having night sweats or more accurately early morning sweets. Ugh. Menopause or mattress? I’m not sure which. Probably both. As much as I’d like to get a new mattress (has anyone tried those new Purple Mattresses?), I can’t justify spending the money since this one was so expensive, it’s not “worn out”, and the new types are probably even more costly. So when I heard that PeachSkin made stay-cooler sheets, I thought they sounded promising. PeachSkin sheets are described as the #BestSheetsEver for people who suffer from night sweats as well as the softest hypoallergenic bedding options available.

The sheets are made of PeachSkin, a “performance sleep fabric”, with a zillion benefits:

  • a 21st century “smart” fabric that’s the best sleep fabric for night sweats
  • a more breathable and lightweight fabric to cut down on night sweats
  • warm sleepers are supposed to stay cool, and cool sleepers are supposed to stay warm
  • like athletic fabrics, the light and airy microfiber fabric wicks away moisture from skin rather than absorbing moisture like cotton does to keep skin more comfortable
  • PeachSkin brushed finish on both sides of the fabric for a ultracomfortable 1500 thread  count level of softness
  • 18″ deep pockets with elastic all the way around the fitted sheets so they fit all kinds of todays thick mattresses and pillowtops
  • pilling resistant, stays smooth over time
  • strong and durable
  • soft right out of the package
  • anti-sleep, non-sateen finish so you don’t slip around
  • spandex-free so there’s no snagging (I had no idea there was spandex in any sheets!)
  • anti-microbial so they discourage dust and allergens from adhering to the fabric so they’re comfortable for those with allergies
  • colors and whites that stay true over time
  • no shrinkage
  • pet hair doesn’t adhere to it
  • not treated with pesticides the way that natural but non-organic fabrics can be.

OK, so they say in lots of different ways that PeachSkin Sheets are cooling, wick away moisture, are lightweight poly-microfiber, and are super soft from the beginning. They stand up to wear, don’t fade or shrink, are pesticide-free, and don’t aggravate allergies. Great! I went ahead a bought a set of queen size PeachSkin Sheets in a soothing, restful, light aqua shade that I think is called Beach Blue on sale for $65 (reg. price $85). I think I got free shipping.

They arrived about a week later, beautifully packaged in a peach logo-lined box with orange tissue paper.

They came in a clear, heavy plastic orange-trimmed zipped case with a cute hanging peach zipper pull that could be used as a key chain if you’re so inclined.

I opened the case, and indeed, they felt like peach skin, brushed, suede-like, and super smooth. They were lightweight. They were very easy to put on the bed because of the 18″ deep pocket and the encased elastic around the entire fitted sheet. They were smooth, not wrinkled. I could hardly wait to sleep on them! And I didn’t wash them first.

Because in the first week or so after I get my hair colored, the red rinse can and does discolor my pillowcases, and the prescription Restasis drops for dry eye that I put in my eyes at night often leak out of my eyes overnight, I can’t bear to sleep on a nice pillowcase that I could ruin.  So I sleep on either a black satin pillowcase that is supposed to help my skin and my hair stay smoother or on an already discolored cotton pillowcase. Thus, my experiment with my new cooling PeachSkin Sheets is not 100% legit because I am not actually sleeping on a PeachSkin pillowcase. Not surprisingly, during the night, I have to flip my down pillow with the old cotton or satin pillowcase over repeatedly because my face is hot (I sleep on my stomach or side with an arm underneath the pillow). I don’t know if the PeachSkin fabric would make a difference. PeachSkin Sheets sells pillowcase sets that are on sale for $29.95, and they come in about 25 colors to match or coordinate with the sheet sets. Maybe I will buy a set of teal, navy, blue-grey, or black, and try them and just not mind if the Restasis in my eyes bleaches out some of the color. Or maybe I should just sacrifice one of the lovely Beach Blue pillowcases and see how it works?

Oh yes, I should mention that the PeachSkin pillowcases have European Envelope Closures, a flap of fabric inside the case to fold over and hide your pillow for a more finished look. They look very nice and are well made.

As far as the sheets go, they are truly the softest, most comfortable sheets I have ever slept on. No kidding, they really are. The brushed microfiber fabric is amazing.

But did the PeachSkin Sheets keep me cooler? I really don’t know. Maybe a little bit? Most early mornings, I still feel the need to get up for a glass of water and to stand up and cool off. I am not sweating, but I just feel the need to cool off. A couple of weeks ago, I slept on a regular mattress in the guest room when there was a moth torturing me in my own room. I wish I could remember if I woke up hot while sleeping on that regular mattress. So in the end, I don’t know if the sheets delivered the key benefit they promised, but they are still wonderful, super soft, ultra-comfortable, nice looking and feeling sheets.

Nevertheless, I should mention that the Laundry Care Instructions that I hadn’t noticed online but were upfront in the package when I opened the box (see photo toward the beginning of the post) said that the sheets should be washed separately, meaning alone or with other PeachSkin Sheets, with warm or cold water. Detergent must be added to the water first and not poured directly on the fabric because it can cause streaking. If washed with other fabrics, PeachSkin Sheets performance fabric could pill. Also, PeachSkin should be dried separately for about 20 minutes on medium or medium-high to activate wrinkle release. Dryer sheets are OK. No ironing or dry cleaning (I know people who iron their sheets, and I don’t judge them). It’s kind of a pain to have to wash and dry this one set of sheets separately all the time. I guess that means I need to buy PeachSkin Sheets for the other beds in the house, lol.

PeachSkin Sheets come in about 25 different colors in solids only, I believe. The shades are pretty. You can order a free swatch to feel and see the fabric before you decide to buy, and they have a 30 day money back guarantee if you do try them. Also, PeachSkin Sheets puts different color sheet sets on sale every month, the Colors of the Month Sale. Around July 4th, red, white or blue sheet sets were on sale for $65. Recently, peach or pale green sheets were on sale. Now, it’s Lavender Mist, Brushed Silver and Toasted Marshmallow. I think I got an introductory offer so that any color I wanted qualified for the $65 price.

Although the sheets aren’t miracle sheets (although if using their pillowcase works to keep me cool, I’ll let you know), they are the softest and most comfortable I’ve tried. I’m sure I’ll get used to washing them separately. To be honest, since I have gotten these, I haven’t wanted to go back to my regular cotton sheets, so maybe that says something.

I’m curious, have any of you tried PeachSkin Sheets? If so, what was your reaction?

  1. Even though I write up a blog post every Sunday about giveaways, it’s rare that I ever enter one. Well I did enter a few for a set of Peachskin sheets since they sounded so fabulous. And I actually won a set. They are delicious to the touch and with a dog that sheds they are a big plus in that department too. I haven’t had to replace any sheet sets in a long time but I’d spring for a set of these when the time comes. (Mine is gray!! LOL)

Timely review as I have been looking at this brand of sheets. I also wake up around 6 or so and am perspiring pretty bad. My new mattress from 18 months ago is a name brand (just can’t remember which one) and it is a hybrid that is supposed to keep me cool….it does about 50% of the time. Please keeper updated on how these sheets work out.

    1. I will, Sandy. Last night, I had no night sweats at all. Maybe the sheets knew I was writing this post and figured they better get with the program. I have noticed that there are other brands of cooling sheets as well, one made from bamboo, but I haven’t tried any of those. I will keep you posted on the cooling factor. But in the meantime, I love how darn soft they are!

    1. Wow, that’s great that you won a set for your mom! Marcia told me she won a set as well. They are so darn soft and comfortable! So far, I love ’em. Last night after writing this post, I didn’t have any night sweats. The sheets must have read it 😉

  4. These sheets sound absolutely delightful! I would love to get a set! Thank you for introducing me to this brand, Allison!

  5. I was on the market for sheets not along ago and was trying to remember the name of this brand because I had seen them elsewhere. I am going to need to write this down so I can remember when I need to buy sheets again!
