Surratt Smoky Eye Baton, Silver

I Bought This, Affiliate LInks

Bergdorf’s had a 30% off sale on select beauty products a few weeks ago. I had hoped I could pick up another Hourglass eyeshadow brush, but Hourglass brushes weren’t part of the sale. Not to miss out, I went through all of the products that were on sale, and I found something that piqued my interest: Surratt Smoky Eye Baton.

I had heard of Surratt, but I had no experience with the brand and I didn’t know much about it. Here’s what the Surratt website says about the brand: “Born in Japan, raised in New York, Surratt creates luxurious makeup that is customizable, refillable, and easy to use.” Honestly, I don’t know what “born in Japan, raised in New York” refers to.  Is Surratt a person? Why are so many of the product names in French? Well, maybe someone will fill me in. But no matter. Surratt’s simply packaged, refillable/eco-conscious, multitasking, elegant makeup is very appealing.

What appealed to me about Surratt Smoky Eye Baton in the shade Silver or Partir en Fumée (“go up in smoke”) were two things:

  • it had a gray eyeliner end
  • it had both eyeliner and coordinating eyeshadow in one tube.

The gray/silver color combo is one that suits me. Pop off the cover on one end to reveal the twist up gray eyeliner. The eyeliner is creamy, smooth and easy to apply. I like the gray that’s almost charcoal because it’s less severe than black.

So far, I use the gray eyeliner along my lower lashline and to line my upper lid. Because my dry eyes have been suffering with all the pollen around, I haven’t tried it yet for tightlining but at some point I will give it a go. Reviewers have written that it actually stays on the waterline. Hope so.

Twist off the other end of the baton to reveal that smudger/eyeshadow. If I smudge the eyeliner with the smudger, it also applies a bit of the shimmery silver shadow. Pretty!

The silver eyeshadow is pale, light, like moonglow. The swatch below is over bare skin. It is best used over eye primer.

“Our dual-ended baton contains a creamy, smudgeable eyeliner on one end and corresponding smoldering eyeshadow on the other, which allows you to create a dramatic smoky eye with ease. Use the eye pencil for defining the lash lines, then untwist the cap on the other end for an easy-to-diffuse shadow that adds drama. No fallout, no mess.”

The Surratt Smoky Eye Baton comes in eight shades. The regular price is $35. I was happier to pay $24.50 for it. In addition to Bergdorf Goodman, Surratt can also be purchased at Surratt Beauty, Nordstrom, Violet Grey, Neiman Marcus, Space NK, Beautylish, and NET-A-PORTER.

  1. This is very pretty! Troy Surratt is an actual person! I have met him, and spent a lot of time talking to him at photographing him at a big BNY event (lots of coverage on LSBB). He worked with Kevyn Aucoin, and he told me that he created cheeky quasi-French names for his product, and was having fun doing that. He even named one of his Lipslique shades, Hevyn, as an homage to his mentor Kevyn Aucoin. Here is my post about the event, and it includes pictures of Troy:

    1. Thank you for setting me straight about Surratt!!! That is so cool that you met him. I will definitely read your post. In looking at his product line, it makes sense that he was Kevyn Aucoin’s student.

  2. I went a little nuts when I first discovered his line but I sadly have to say most of what I have doesn’t get used much. I do have a lovely lipstick though so I’ll look for that now that I’m doing a little socializing.

    1. Ah, did you stop using the Surratt line because it didn’t perform as expected? Or just better things out there?

I was so happy to find a gray eyeliner that sounded creamy with the bonus of an eyeshadow. The eyeshadow definitely needs primer, and I hope that will oomph it up a bit. I was also drawn to the minimalist concept.

  3. How luxurious! I don’t own anything from Surratt but I definitely have his makeup brushes and blushes on my wishlist.
