Tatcha Balanced Pore Perfecting Water Gel Moisturizer: Perfect for Summer

Tatcha is a skincare company that truly understands and values all kinds of beauty. Based on beauty rituals from the geishas, Tatcha pairs ancient beauty secrets with cutting edge science to create perhaps the perfect skincare brand. I’m always excited to see what’s new from Tatcha.

Every package I receive from Tatcha is a work of art. This time, I received a beautiful, soft woven box accented with Japanese rice paper.

Inside was a calligraphy set with inks, brush, pen, and water cup. I so wish that I knew how to do calligraphy. I need to learn! They included a calligraphied Tatcha postcard in the box for inspiration 🙂

In addition to the art supplies, Tatcha included their brand new moisturizer for Summer 2016: Balanced Pore Perfecting Water Gel Moisturizer.

Balanced Pore Perfecting Water Gel Moisturizer was designed for oily skin with key ingredient Japanese Wild Rose that tightens pores and balances skin’s oil production. I wondered why Tatcha sent it to me since I have dry skin. But I thought that I’d just give it a try, and then give it away to an oily skinned gal. Then I tried it. Whoa, they should not be positioning this fabulous lightweight moisturizer as being only for those with oily skin! I think it’s the perfect summer-weight moisturizer. In fact, I like this moisturizer so much I wondered if maybe I got carried away so I checked the customer reviews to see what other women had to say. It was rated 5 stars, and women with oily, combination and even dry skin like me loved this new ultra lightweight moisturizer. So even if you have dry skin, this moisturizer is definitely worth investigating before summer ends!

In my hand, translucent Water Gel Moisturizer feels slightly heavier than water. Applied to freshly cleansed skin, it is absorbed in seconds. Yet it leaves even my dry skin feeling soft and moisturized with no sticky feeling.

During the day, I wear Tatcha Balanced Pore Perfecting Water Gel Moisturizer with a separate SPF since it doesn’t have its own built-in sunscreen. But because it’s so lightweight, it’s the perfect moisturizer to pair with a separate sunscreen.

Plus it helps skin become the perfect canvas for makeup. I love how celebrity makeup artist, Matthew Vanleeuwen, put it: “The right moisturizer lets makeup sing… this water gel moisturizer acts like a magnetic cushion, providing a luminous and hydrated base.” That’s exactly how it feels to wear Water Gel Moisturizer under my makeup, yes. And as the “cherry on top”, Tatcha Water Gel Moisturizer has 23K gold dust for a gorgeous illuminated but shine-free glow.

Water Gel Moisturizer like most Tatcha skincare products comes in a glass bottle. This is a pump bottle, perfect for dispensing the Water Gel Moisturizer while preserving the efficacy of its ingredients. Many Tatcha products come in Tatcha blue, but Water Gel is housed in a fresh-looking pale aqua shade.

Priced at $68, Tatcha Water Gel Moisturizer contains 50 ml/1.7 oz. I need so little of this water gel to cover my face. I know it’ll last for a long time. It also comes in a 10 ml travel size for $18, so you can try it out before committing to a full size bottle. Does this sound like a moisturizer that would suit you?

  1. I’ve long wanted to try Tatcha skincare but the amount of skincare that I am currently having is impossible to go through before year end. Hopefully next year I can pick up a couple from the brand to try.

    1. Thank you, Shireen, for commenting today! Good ole Mailchimp didn’t send out my post, grrrrr. Tatcha is a truly lovely skincare brand that I know you’d love. Everything they do is both exquisite and research-based. But I completely hear you about being swamped with skincare products to use for review!

      1. Haha! I know you post everyday and learnt my lesson that your Mailchimp doesn’t always deliver so I made sure to hop over. LOL!

        1. You’re so sweet, Shireen! xoxo Yesterday, the woman who does the coding for the Beauty Blog Coalition was late so I changed the delivery time for Mailchimp and then changed it back to regular delivery time – that’s always the kiss of death. In the future, I’ll just leave it.

  2. This is such a great lightweight moisturizer, and I agree that it is great for many more skin types beyond oily! This is such an amazing choice for the warm weather! Another hit from TATCHA!

    1. I think the fact that most of Tatcha’s products are available in travel size is such a boon. I love to try skincare products out first. But so far, I’ve loved everything I’ve tried from Tatcha! I think you’d like this lightweight moisturizer – it’s like a liqui-gel.

    1. I’m a major fan of the Indigo Cream for the colder parts of the year, so I wasn’t expecting this liqui-gel for oily skin to work for my dry skin. But for summer, it’s perfect. And it’s the best under sunscreen or foundation. I hope Tatcha will find you soon!

  22. Hi Allison, is this a special PR packaging? Regular sets are definitely not as cute as these…no special art work supplies…loving this package

    1. Missy, this was a special package for a PR promotion sent to bloggers. Do you do calligraphy?

I do love their regular packaging though. The shade of indigo that they use on so many of their skincare products are right up my alley!

      1. Yes, I do, I’m Asian and it was mandatory in school when I was younger. I wish they sell these PR sets as regular sets. The cup, brush might not be expensive, but when everything is put together in one package, it emphasizes another form of beauty. The idea takes the word beauty to another level when superficial beauty resonates with inner beauty.
