Things Change: Estee Lauder Double Wear Infinite Waterproof Eyeliner

I Bought This - Affiliate links

Six or seven years ago I’m guessing, I bought an Estée Lauder Double Wear Stay-In-Place Eyeliner pencil in a medium gray shade called Graphite. I loved this shade because it was dark enough but not black, and it looked good with my blue-gray eyes. It was a traditional wooden pencil that I have to sharpen. It came with a smudge on the other end. After a long time, I am down to almost the end of this eyeliner that I use on my lower lashline almost every day. So when Ulta had a 20% off coupon, I decided to buy another one to have on hand.

Things change over time. Estée Lauder still has Double Wear Stay-In-Place Eyeliner that’s a wooden pencil with a smudge, but it doesn’t have the shade Graphite. Instead, there’s Smoke. Looking at it online, I couldn’t tell if it was the same shade of medium gray as my old Stay-In-Place eyeliner. Hmm.

Then I discovered Double Wear Infinite Waterproof Eyeliner that did have a shade called Graphite in the lineup. I ordered that. It’s the same price as the Double Wear Stay-In-Place Eyeliner, and both options are waterproof. But this pencil is a mechanical pencil with a twist up tip and a smudge and sharpener on the other end.

The shade Graphite is not the same shade of gray as my original pencil. It’s a few shades darker, more of a charcoal gray than a soft medium gray.

Even though I preferred the color of the original Graphite shade in my old Stay-In-Place eyeliner pencil, the eyeliner formula of my new Infinite Waterproof eyeliner is softer, smoother and easier to apply. I like that.

Because I have never sharpened a mechanical pencil tip, I hope it will work OK. I haven’t had to sharpen it yet so I can’t speak about how effective the little built-in sharpener is.

The Infinite Waterproof formula is definitely waterproof, unlike my original Stay-In-Place eyeliner pencil. Now that Stay-In-Place eyeliner has been labeled as waterproof, I wonder if it wears as well as the Infinite Waterproof Eyeliner?

Even though the shade isn’t quite the same, I like the creamy, consistency of the Estée Lauder Double Wear Infinite Waterproof Eyeliner and the waterproof formula. It works very well on my upper waterline because of its formula. I never used the Stay-In-Place eyeliner on my upper waterline because it was too stiff.

I’m curious to find out how long this new eyeliner pencil will last. I kind of doubt it will last 6 or 7 years, but things change.

Estée Lauder Double Wear Infinite Waterproof Eyeliner is priced at $27. It’s ophthalmologist-tested and fragrance-free.

    1. I need to see the shade Smoke from EL Stay In Place Eyeliner in person, and see if it is closer to the medium gray that was the old shade, Graphite. I wish brands wouldn’t change the shades of well known shades!

Graphite is a great color for eyeliner. I own a similar one from another brand

  5. Personally I find mechanical lip or eye pencil finish faster than the pencil, needs to sharpen ones….maybe just me? Sounds like the new one has some improvements though.

    1. I agree, Shireen, mechanical eyeliners are faster and usually creamier/softer too. I just wish the shade had been the same as the original one I bought, but I’m still happy with it

  6. I like that color! I love smokey shades to make my eyes pop.

The new one definitely looks softer, but because of that it probably won’t last as long. Glad you like it though!

    1. Yes, I agree that it will definitely get used up faster, but I must say I do like the softer feel. I just wish the shade had been the same 😉
