This or That? My Derma E Facial Cleansers

In the spring, I usually switch from my favorite cream cleansers to gels. I spend so much time digging in the dirt, hiking in the woods, jogging or walking outdoors that I prefer gel cleansers that create lather to better clean my dirty skin.

While the primary function of facial cleansers is to clean the skin, I have become a believer in multi-tasking cleansers that give my skin a boost in other ways as well. Initially I was skeptical that active ingredients in a wash-off product like a cleanser could actually have an effect. However, I have been reading that they definitely can. For more info on this topic, check out “The Wash-Off Difference: How Active Ingredients in Cleansers Relate to Those We Leave on the Skin”:

According to brand manager of Soapbox, Jessica Busick, “Active washes work by blending the key active ingredients with a nourishing base that helps support penetration.” Omaha, NE dermatologist Joel Schlessinger, MD concurs: “If an ingredient is found in ‘wash-off’ products like a cleanser or a body wash, then it’s often able to do its job within seconds,” he says. “Glycolic and salicylic acid, which are oftentimes found in face cleansers, are both great exfoliants and they also prepare the skin for leave-on ingredients.””

Derma E Vitamin C Brightening Cleanser

The Vitamin C collection is one of my favorites among Derma E’s many skincare collections. And the Vitamin C Brightening Cleanser is one of the reasons why. I’ve mentioned it a number of times (here)as well as in my empties posts.

First, the light citrus scent is the perfect morning pick-me-up, so I tend to use it as my A.M. cleanser. I just love the fragrance that I can smell as I create the lather, but it isn’t strong. The scent dissipates as the liqui-gel mixes with water.

Speaking of lather, it’s just the right amount for me. I often use my FOREO Mini in the morning, and I like using a cleanser that lathers when I use it. The lather isn’t difficult to rinse away.

I have some dark spots and discoloration from a lifetime of spending time outdoors. While a brightening cleanser on its own wouldn’t be enough to fade my dark spots, it’s a nice addition to the other discoloration-improving products that I use. Formulated with Derma E’s “Intensive Skin Brightening Complex”, it contains Madonna Lily Plant Stem Cells, Bearberry, Niacinamide, Green Tea and C-Ester.

Importantly, Derma E Brightening Cleanser is pH balanced. It leaves my skin feeling refreshed, clean but not dry, and healthy with a nice glow.

Derma E Vitamin C Brightening Cleanser comes in a pump bottle containing 6 fl. oz./175 ml. It’s priced at $15.50, and it lasts for a looooong time.

Ingredients: Purified Water, Sodium Methyl Cocoyl Taurate (Coconut Derived), Cocamidopropyl Hydroxysultaine (Coconut Derived), Glyceryl Laurate (Vegetable Derived), Disodium Laureth Sulfosuccinate, Cocamidopropyl Betaine (Coconut Derived), Niacinamide (Vitamin B3), Panthenol (Provitamin B5), Glycolic Acid, Glycyrrhiza Glabra (Licorice) Root Extract, Ascorbyl Palmitate (Vitamin C Ester), Arctostaphylos Uva Ursi (Bearberry) Leaf Extract, Lilium Candidum (Madonna Lily) Leaf Cell Extract, Organic Camellia Sinensis (Green Tea) Leaf Extract*, Retinyl Palmitate (Vitamin A), Allantoin, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Oil, Potassium Sorbate, Phenoxyethanol, Ethylhexylglycerin.

Derma E Anti-Wrinkle Cleanser

I recently started using Derma E Anti-Wrinkle Cleanser. Frankly, I wish I had used it along with the terrific Derma E Anti-Wrinkle Toner that I just used up, so the two products could have worked together. Unfortunately, I just found the cleanser in my stash. But I went back to exfoliating Derma E Radiance Toner, so it’s all good. (BTW, both fab toners aren’t listed on the Derma E website. Boo. What gives, Derma E?)

The Anti-Wrinkle Cleanser is part of my nighttime skincare routine. I follow it up with a retinol serum or moisturizer.

Like the Vitamin C Brightening Cleanser, it’s also a liquid-gel. For me, it doesn’t lather up quite as well as the Brightening Cleanser, though other reviewers on the Derma E website mention how well it lathers. Maybe it’s just the bottle I got. Nevertheless, it lathers well enough. It rinses easily.

Though some of the reviewers mention its “nice scent”, I don’t smell much of a scent at all.

Anti-Wrinkle Cleanser is an exfoliating cleanser that deeply cleans and contains Vitamin A via Glycolic Acid and Papaya Extract to smooth skin, reduce lines and wrinkles and help increase firmness. Bakuchiol (a gentler form of retinol) as well as retinol are both listed in the ingredients along with GA. Yet, the cleanser is gentle and not drying.

Like Vitamin C Brightening Cleanser, Anti-Wrinkle Cleanser comes in a 6 fl. oz./175 ml pump bottle. The price is $14.95.

Ingredients: Purified Water, Sodium Methyl Cocoyl Taurate (Coconut Derived), Cocamidopropyl Hydroxysultaine (Coconut Derived), Cocamidopropyl Betaine (Coconut Derived), Glyceryl Laurate (Vegetable Derived), Glycolic Acid, Bakuchiol, Retinol, Carica Papaya (Papaya) Fruit Extract, Equisetum Arvense (Horsetail) Extract, Macrocystis Pyrifera (Sea Kelp) Extract, Potassium Sorbate, Phenoxyethanol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Natural Fragrance Oils.

Like all Derma E products, both cleansers are cruelty-free, vegan, sulfate-free, and free of mineral oil, GMOs, parabens, and gluten.

Have you tried either of these Derma E cleansers?
