When Jeff and I were visiting London two months ago, I told him I needed to stop into the Molton Brown shop at Covent Garden. Covent Garden, as well as the rest of London downtown, was jammed with tourists and high end stores, unlike the old days when it was relatively empty and filled with indie boutiques. So I ran into Molton Brown, and asked a sales associate whether they had received the 2023 Holiday Scented Collection. Unfortunately, they hadn’t. Though I wanted to look around at their products to see if the prices were better in London, I didn’t have time since Jeff was waiting for me outside among the crowd. Oh well.
But a few weeks ago, I noticed an ad for the new scent collection, Marvellous Mandarin & Spice. Surprisingly, the limited edition scent collection did NOT include a full size shower gel. Boo! But they did have the Festive Bauble.
During the Pre-Black Friday 30% off Sale, I decided to at least buy the new bauble. (The MM&S collection consists of Liquid Hand Wash, a Hand Care Set, Lotion, a candle, and the Festive Shower Gel Bauble.)
The Mandarin & Spice Bauble arrived about a week ago. I prefer the shape of this Festive Bauble – an octagonal shape that is supposed to represent “a precious jewel”,
– to the old round bauble. The round ornament shape was impossible to get the shower gel to flow out of it.
This new octagonal shape works with no problem.
The Marvellous Mandarin & Spice scent was developed as a gender-neutral fragrance. To me, the shower gel seems just a tad more masculine, nevertheless, I feel like I can still use it. The scent is citrusy and spicy. MB’s website describes it as:
“…juicy mandarin, warm cinnamon and delectable dried fruits…Scattered ingredients gloriously strewn across the Christmas kitchen table; jewels of wintry citrus and warm, deep spices. A slightly tart swirl of sparkling mandarin zest unravels into the golden vibrancy of lively ginger. Well seasoned with tasting notes of ground cinnamon, crunchy clusters of seedy dried fruits and an aromatic grating of earthy nutmeg. Splendidly stir up a festive feast for the senses; reimagine a magnificent seasonal tradition.”
From the description, I think it’s the “tart swirl of sparkling mandarin zest” and maybe even the “golden vibrancy of lively ginger” that gives it a slightly masculine edge. Regardless, I like the scent, and though I don’t love it as much as I do the Plum fragrance from about 5 years ago, it is a fun shower gel to use for the holiday season.
