As spring is on the horizon, I’m looking forward to spending more time outdoors. Although I often wear foundation if I’m going to some kind of social event, it’s nice to have a lightweight alternative for more casual occasions and everyday activities. Two have come my way recently.
Like all Cotz sunscreens, new Cotz Face Moisture SPF 35 helps screen out sun’s damaging rays with the active ingredient, the mineral zinc oxide 16%, that works by reflecting the sun’s rays. It’s “reef-safe” or compliant with the new rules that Hawaii and hopefully other states will be instituting soon to protect the coral reefs and other sea life.
What’s great about Cotz Face Moisture SPF 35 is it leaves no white cast whatsoever! Although it comes in one lightly tinted shade,
it is essentially transparent and would work for many skin tones. As you can see, it doesn’t hide the sun damage on the back of my hand. (Sorry that the lighting wasn’t the same. Cotz does not seem to add color.)
It’s my go-to moisturizer with sunscreen when I’m staying at home because as you probably know, your skin can be affected by damaging rays that come in through the windows or from the blue rays of your computer, phone or tablet. It also is fine for when I’m outside walking, jogging, shoveling snow, or snow shoveling. In the spring, it’ll be perfect for biking or jogging. In the summer, I could easily reapply this facial sunscreen as necessary because it is so lightweight, and because it is essentially sheer, it won’t build up and look cakey.
In addition, Cotz Face Moisture has a wonderful silky smooth skin feel because it contains dimethicone. In fact, I’ve been wearing it as a moisturizing primer with sunscreen. If my skin is extra dry, I apply it over moisturizer. So it’s doing double or triple duty for me. As a primer, it plays very well with my foundation.
Cotz is oil-free and fragrance-free.
Cotz Face Moisture SPF 35 was a great find! The tube contains 1.5 oz./42.5 g. It’s priced at $23.99. You can find it at Ulta, Lovelyskin.com and Target. Cotz is cruelty-free and vegan.
First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Tinted Moisturizer SPF 30
I received First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Tinted Moisturizer DPF 30 in shade Cream (for pale to fair skin with neutral beige undertones).
Cream suits my fair/light skin well, even though I have pink undertones. (I didn’t rub it in quite all the way.)
It comes in 10 shades with different undertones from Fair to Deep. For a tinted moisturizer, I would say it has a decent range of shades.
It is a slightly heavier consistency than the Cotz, and it feels velvety on my skin. It contains skincare ingredients like vitamin E, hyaluronic acid for hydration and colloidal oatmeal to calm redness. FAB Tinted Moisturizer SPF 30 contains mineral pigments, and it provides some color and light coverage. It provides more camouflage to my dark spots than the Cotz that is sheer. I can wear the FAB Tinted Moisturizer as a foundation alternative with a dab or two of concealer over my most obvious dark spots. It has a natural finish
FAB Tinted Moisturizer SPF 30 is formulated with chemical sunscreen ingredients, and it prevents skin from absorbing the sun’s rays. It leaves no white cast. It has an almost imperceptible scent.
The flat tube contains 1.0 oz./30 ml, and is priced at $28. It’s available on the FAB website, at Sephora and Ulta. First Aid Beauty is a cruelty-free brand.
This isn’t a head to head comparison with a winner. I like both of these tinted moisturizers with sunscreen. They bought have their own strengths, and they come from different backgrounds. Which would suit you best depends on what’s important to you.Cotz Face Moisture SPF 35 is perfect for those who prefer mineral sunscreens, and who either want sheer coverage or want to use this as a primer. It comes from mineral sunscreen heritage and is compliant with the new environmental guidelines for sunscreens.
FAB Tinted Moisturizer SPF 30 comes from skincare heritage. It is more like a lightweight foundation that provides sheer-medium coverage with skincare ingredients. It contains chemical sunscreen ingredients.
Do either of these tinted moisturizers with sunscreen appeal to you?
For the last 6 years, I’ve been buying the Sephora sun kit and have tried quite a few tinted sunscreens. I really like the FAB one and may have to get the Cotz as a primer! Thanks for the post💝
Thank you for weighing in, Sherry. I need to take a look at the Sephora sun kit. I’m glad the FAB Tinted Moisturizer is working well for you. It has just the right amount of color for summer. For the beach, I may use the FAB to start for a little color coverage, and then reapply with the sheer Cotz. Whatever works, right?
I should probably look into a moisturizer with spf. I don’t believe mine has any. For the summer, I need to protect my skin!
A moisturizer with built-in spf really is the easiest way to go! Saves a step
I think I’d be interested in the FAB one – just because it adds a touch of color. I like that to just even out a the skin a touch when you don’t want a full foundation face.
The FAB Tinted Moisturizer would be perfect for adding a touch of color.
Thanks for the review. I always try to buy products that contain sunscreen. I am in the market for a lightweight product for summer so will put these two products on my list!
hope you can check them out at Ulta, Sandy! They are similar but actually quite different 🙂
I don’t think I’ve ever seen the brand Cotz before but it does sound lovely. I can see the thickness and heaviness of The First Aid Beaty cream, probably not for me.
I discovered CoTZ via my Ipsy sample bags. Lately I’ve been wearing a moisturizer that doesn’t have SPF and the CoTZ is perfect to wear over it or under foundation. It’s very lightweight.
I wear tinted sunscreen everyday. I haven’t seen CoTZ in a great while
This is a new product from CoTZ. I think it is sheerer than some of their others. I got to try some travel sizes in the past via Ipsy, but I really love this one because the other ones had too much of a yellow undertone for me.
I’ve never tried tinted sunscreen. This sounds nice!
A tinted moisturizer with sunscreen is a terrific all-in-one product. Worth a try!
I’ve been using CoTZ as either a primer or a lightweight foundation. It evens out my skintone but doesn’t really have coverage. I am thrilled that it’s fragrance free.
I’m so glad that this one ticks all your boxes. I’m glad it’s fragrance-free too especially helpful during the summer when we want to reapply it.
These both sound great!
These both sound nice, but I think I would like the FAB one for everyday summer use.
The FAB Tinted Moisturizer with the little bit of color as well as SPF is certainly helpful
I’ve used the tinted moisturizer from Cotz and really like it. I bet I’d like both of these.
I’ve never heard of this brand before but I’m going to have to look it up! I’ve already been using the FAB one for years!
CoTZ is really worth getting to know. They only make mineral sunscreens and are compliant with the new FDA rules as well as the no chemical ingredient laws instituted by Hawaii and Key West. Plus, it is such a lightweight sunscreen that it is easy to reapply!
I love First Aid Beauty products, so I’ll have to check theirs out for sure!
FAB has awesome moisturizing products!
Yes, they certainly do! I’m loving the FAB Cream Cleanser and the new BARRIAir Moisturizer.
I’ve never heard of Cotz! I think this is one that I would like to try out and it would probably be great for summer, when I usually wear less makeup ☺️
I first learned about CoTZ Sunscreens via my Ipsy bag, though the shade I got then didn’t quite suit my skin tone. I love this one that’s essentially sheer, has no white cast at all, and it’s a mineral sunscreen and better for the environment!
I currently have the COTZ SPF 40 tinted sunscreen in my rotation. It leave my oily skin looking matte and refreshed, not dry. I also tried the First Aid Beauty tinted moisturizer but the shade was too dark for me. It is labeled “luminous finish”, which on me, translates to shiny. So it’s a no for me. I am loving the COTZ one though.
Lynne, does the CoTZ SPF 40 have any color? Just curious. I tried a sample via my Ipsy bag a couple of years ago, but the shade I got in my bag was too dark with yellow undertones for me. I looooooove the new one that I got because it’s so lightweight, and I don’t mind that it’s essentially sheer. First Aid Beauty came out with 5 new shades, so they now have a total of 10 shade with a good variety. But on the tube, it still says “Natural, Luminous Finish” so I assume it would still not suit you. Glad you found a good one with CoTZ!
I’ve taken to tinted sunscreens as well, and there are more of those that suit my skintone than I expected! The Cotz one sounds lovely – I love anything that’s oil-free and physical, and the sheer tint is probably suitable enough for my skintone. I’ll have a hunt around for it!
The new CoTZ “Lightly Tinted” Face Moisture SPF 35 is pretty awesome as far as I’m concerned. It is essentially sheer so I think it would suit all but the deepest complexions and maybe even those. It’s a wonderful primer!
I’ve used Cotz Face sunscreen and didn’t know they now had out a moisturizer version! I love the other and will have to try this out!
The new CoTZ Face Moisture SPF 35 does double duty as a primer. I love it!
I don’t usually wear tinted sunscreen but I like the idea behind the FAB and having a hint of coverage
I like tinted sunscreen for the beach or outdoor sports. Everything FAB makes is terrific
I still haven’t moved to a tinted moisturizer but I really like the idea of having 2 products in one!
Love when you can find something with SPF!
