At the end of September last year, I wrote about a lipstick that I got from Ipsy. I think I bought it as an add-on product, and I had forgotten about it when it arrived. In fact, I didn’t even know which brand it was, but it turns out it was from Too Faced, a brand I haven’t bought in several years.
I reviewed Too Faced Too Femme Heart Core Lipstick, shade Too Femme 02, and I gave it a rave review.
It turned out that I love it for a number of reasons:
- it’s heart-shaped: both the tube and the little heart in the center of the bullet (“heart core”)
- it’s amazingly lightweight
- it wears like a hydrating lip balm, and it looks glossy
- it lasts on my lips even after the gloss has worn off, leaving behind color but without the dryness of a lip stain.
The shade I bought back in September was Too Femme 02, and though it was described as Medium Pink Nude, the bullet looks like mauve and the shade has some purple in it.
A couple of weeks ago, I was curious to see how much of the bullet was left because I wear it almost everyday when I leave the house for errands etc. I twisted up the bullet, saw that I had about a half inch or so left, and I forgot to twist it back down again before I applied it. To be honest, the only “con” I could find for this lipstick is that applying it made kind of a mess on the tube where it smeared. It’s a soft lipstick and I think the heart shape may have contributed to the messiness on the tube. At any rate, because I didn’t twist most of the bullet back down, when I went to apply it, the bullet broke off. Oh boo. It was my own fault, but I was upset since it’s my favorite everyday lipstick.
I decided that I liked it so much that I wanted to replace it. I went to the Too Faced website where there was a sale on all of their lipsticks, and I couldn’t find the Too Femme Heart Core Lipstick collection on the site. Drat. I looked elsewhere online (Ulta.com: no longer available), but I saw that it was available at Sephora at Kohl’s for the MSRP of $26. I didn’t want to pay full price if I didn’t have to.
I chatted with a sales associated on the Too Faced website and asked her what happened to the Too Femme Heart Core Lipstick collection. She put me on hold to find out. After a few minutes, she returned and confirmed what I thought: the collection has been discontinued. The fact that I bought it for at least half price on Ipsy should have cued me that it was discontinued, and Too Faced was getting rid of their inventory on the Ipsy website. Ugh.
Next, I searched for it online, and a number of the 6 shades are still available here and there:
I thought I found Too Femme, shade 02 on Amazon, and since I could get free delivery and a lower price, I ordered it. When it showed up on my doorstep a couple of days later, I was surprised to see that I got the wrong shade. What I got was Crazy For You, 03.
I was thinking of sending it back, but then I thought I should keep it because it looked like a perfect summer shade: Crazy For You is hot pink. I love it too.
A few days later, I went back to Amazon and ordered (or was it reordered?) Too Femme 02, so now I have two shades. I will be careful with the soft lipstick bullets and try not to mess them up!
