Touche Eclat Blur Primer and Blur Perfector from YSL

A couple of weeks ago, I received a new duo from the Touche Eclat collection of Yves Saint Laurent Beauty and Influenster, the blogger/brand organization:

both designed to enhance the look of foundation makeup and make skin look smoother and more perfect.

Yves Saint Laurent Touche Eclat Blur Primer & Blur Perfector

Touche Eclat Blur Primer

The deluxe sample of the primer that I received comes in a small glass bottle with a paddle applicator. The first thing you notice is that gold flecks are suspended within the primer gel! Touche Eclat Blur Primer with the real gold flecks is the first radiance boosting primer that illuminates the look of skin.

Yves Saint Laurent Touche Eclat Blur Primer

I recently reviewed a serum with gold flecks, and I mentioned that gold flecks give a lovely glow to the face and over time can help soften the look of wrinkles and other imperfections.

The Blur Primer is a thick, but lightweight gel that requires just a little bit on the paddle to cover the entire face. It feels very smooth, like silicone, as you apply it, and it dries literally within seconds. The primer is formulated with nourishing oils that soften skin and also help to diminish the look of pores and fine lines. Touche Eclat Blur Primer definitely leaves my skin feeling soft and smooth before I apply my foundation, providing a nice canvas for my makeup.

Yves Saint Laurent Touche Eclat Blur Primer

I love Touche Eclat Blur Primer. I’m torn between continuing to use it now and waiting till winter when I will need the nourishing and hydrating oils even more. As I mentioned, I received a 0.33 fl. oz./10 ml deluxe sample, and the actual product is 1 fl. oz., priced at $52, made in France, and it comes in a glass pump bottle. Because this is a pricey product, I’d like to make it last as long as possible! But this is one primer that is worth saving up for  😛

Touche Eclat Blur Perfector

Touche Eclat Blur Perfector is one of the most beautiful-looking makeup products I have ever owned. It comes in a gorgeous gold-trimmed, pink compact with the YSL logo in gold on the front. It came with a black soft pouch to store it and the white applicator pad so that it doesn’t get scratched in my purse or makeup bag. Just lovely!

However, I must admit that I was skeptical about this product. I purchased L’Oreal Miracle Blur right after it launched a couple of years ago, and it was a fail for me. So the word “blur” made me nervous. But YSL’s Touche Eclat Blur Perfector is quite different from the L’Oreal Miracle Blur that is a thick gel in a tube. Touche Eclat Blur Perfector is a lightweight balm-powder (that’s what YSL calls it but it’s more like a very lightweight wax or solid silicone) that comes in the compact.

Where/When to Use It

You can apply it with the white applicator pad that comes with it or with your fingers (easier though less sanitary). It can be used in a few different ways:

  • on its own as an “all-over complexion perfector”
  • on top of makeup to set the foundation etc.
  • as a mattifying touchup during the day.

Because I was obsessed with the blurring aspect of the product, that’s what I checked out first over makeup. I am older and I have fine lines and wrinkles. While it can’t do much for deep wrinkles, it definitely does blur or soften fine lines around my mouth, larger pores near my nose etc. Although the blurring doesn’t last forever, it does last for a couple of hours, and because the compact is for on-the-go usage, I can touch up those areas when necessary. The only issue right now in late July/early August is the extreme heat and humidity here in New England. I’m having problems wearing any face makeup because it’s so darn hot! Everything just slides off my face, and adding another layer with the Blur Perfector isn’t what I want to do right now. In the fall and winter, I can see that I will turn to this lovely compact much more frequently than in the heat of summer.

Next, I tried Blur Perfector on its own, and I’m afraid it didn’t do enough to blur my fine lines or even my skin tone. On a younger woman with better skin, I can imagine it would be enough. So for me, it will be used to blur areas on top of foundation.

Oh and did I mention that the Blur Perfector continues the silky softness started with the Blur Primer? It makes my face feel so soft and smooth I want to touch it (but I know I shouldn’t!).

How to Apply It

If using the product instead of foundation, the directions suggest applying Touche Eclat Primer Perfector to the entire face like you would foundation: from the center of the face outward in sweeping motions. If using after applying foundation, tap on Blur Perfector in problem areas only, e.g. where there are large pores or wrinkles, and do not sweep it on as it will ruin your makeup!

Final Impression

My impression after using the Blur Perfector for a couple of weeks on and off is that it is not a necessity but a nice to have luxury, especially in cooler weather, to help your skin look better when going without foundation makeup if your skin is decent to begin with or to minimize the look of flaws when wearing foundation.

The Touche Eclat Blur Perfector compact contains 0.33 oz./0.95 g, is made in France and is priced at $55. It can be purchased at upscale stores like Nordstrom, Saks, Macy’s, Sephora, and on the YSL Beauty website.

  1. I like the look of the primer! I may have to save up to get that one. I have yet to really find a primer that seems to last with the filling in of pores, so this is interesting to me. I am also of the older variety, so I to have fine lines.

    1. The primer does give my skin a more luminous look and I love the fact that the primer dries within seconds. On top of the primer, my foundation did a good job of covering my pores. However, I did a bit of touchup with the Touche Eclat Blur Perfector on my fine lines around my lips and I was surprised that it did actually make them less visible. I also tried using the Perfector as a primer since it is essentially solid silicone and that worked too. See if you can get a small sample of the primer at Sephora so you can give it a try, Sandie!

  2. These look great. I haven’t tried either product, and probably won’t, just because I just bought a new primer! But I love YSL. Such great luxury brand.

    1. I don’t know that these are “necessities” but they are wonderful luxuries. If you didn’t already have a new primer, I would suggest this one. I think the 4 oils, the gold illuminating flecks and the incredibly fast absorption make it a good one

  3. I haven’t tried either, but I am very curious about both after reading your illuminating review. I love the gold flecks in the primer– it makes me think of the gorgeous gold flecks in the TATCHA GOLD Camellia Beauty Oil!

    1. I just tried a gold flecked serum and I loved it so it’s nice to also have the gold flecks in the YSL Touche Eclat Primer for a lovely glow! I was so curious about the Tatcha Camellia Oil, I didn’t realize it had gold in it too.

  4. I am absolutely dying to try that primer!

    1. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed, Jamie! The primer is so lightweight and so quickly absorbed and the gold is all that 🙂

  5. YSL never disappoints with packaging! I don’t think I will purchase either of these, but they are fun to read about 🙂

    1. You have such lovely skin, Anastasia, that I don’t think you need these two. But the gold flecked primer does give a lovely glow!

  6. I like the sound of the blur perfector, but I’m not sure it will suit my skintone 🙁

    1. Leigh, I so lucked out on this one and the YSL Faux Cils Effect Mascara! I am eternally grateful to Influenster for these two campaigns! The Primer is lovely: hydrating and lightweight/fast absorbing in one – how can that be, but it is!

  9. What an awesome Influenster box! That primer sounds amazing. I may have to look into that one.

  11. Thanks for the in-depth review, Allison! Is the Blur Perfector anything like the Mally Pore Perfector? It kind of looks like one of those clear compact products. These look so luxurious–someday I’d like to try a YSL product!
Sammi the Beauty Buff recently posted…Ipsy Glam Bag: July 2015 ReviewMy Profile

    1. I honestly don’t know, Sammi. I have never tried any Mally products, unfortunately. The YSL is essentially solid silicone with other goodies added in for good measure. But it sounds like they could be similar: the YSL is a cloudy pink substance that’s hard to describe! I hope you will be able to try a YSL product soon. The packaging alone is so lovely

  12. I’m obsessed with both of these!!! I have been using them non-stop and even did a sephora order so I could get another small sample of the Blur Primer LMAO!

    1. I personally haven’t seen anything else like this, but that doesn’t mean it’s not out there. Someone mentioned that it reminded her of Mally Pore Perfector, but I don’t know if Mally is CF and I haven’t seen that product. And yes, the packaging and look of both of these is so feminine and luxurious!

  15. I’m obsessed with the packaging’s softness. I’ve heard a lot of good things about this primer and am happy that it works so well. It would kill me to spend a lot of money on something that didn’t deliver results.

    1. I think it’s a very nice primer. I don’t have oily skin but dry and it works well for me. I am curious to see if the 4 oils will make a different in hydration once fall/winter is upon us

  16. I love the idea of that primer. I mean… Gold flakes… Mmm…
Erika recently posted…My Perfect Nude Polish? My Profile

    1. Right?! I’m doing gold flakes in my serum, followed by gold flakes in my primer and I’m shining!

  17. Nataile Brown says:

Gold flakes and pink with gold packaging?! Yes, please. lol I would certainly use these products and, especially, the powder. I would save these for the Winter/Fall months because, as you said, I think they’ll be better in the Fall/Winter. 🙂

    1. I hate to waste luxury makeup like these beauties now when everything is just rolling off my face, right?! Definitely check them out next trip to Sephora though. Also, a friend said that she placed an order on Sephora so she could get a sample size of the Primer with her points, so consider it if you have Sephora points that you’ve been saving! I think I saw that the Perfector balm-powder is sold out on Sephora.com. Can you believe it? Well, yes, when you look at the packaging, I guess I’m not surprised!

  18. These both sound fabulous to me. I know this weather won’t make them perform at their best so maybe in the fall I’ll have the money to buy them. I used a Covergirl blur product today but it wasn’t good in this heat so I have to wait til cooler weather to try it again.

    1. I’m not in a hurry for fall to arrive, but like some of my clothing for cooler weather, I’m going to save these beauties for then when makeup won’t be dripping down my face, lol. I guess that’s what we’re all doing!

  19. The primer with the gold flecks looks really interesting. I have three primers that I’m rotating to use up, then I can check this one out 🙂

    1. If you happen to be placing an order on Sephora.com and have points you want to use, I heard that they have samples of the YSL Beauty Touche Eclat Blur Primer! I know what you mean, though, about using up what you have. Wouldn’t you know I bought a full size Smashbox Photofinish Primer and also got a travel size of it right before this lovely arrived!

  20. I agree, blur perfector is more geared towards normal skin. My review will be up soon, coming from combination skin gal.

    1. I heard about the NYX serum with the gold. I have a serum with gold and other goodies from Xanadu/ISA Professional. I wonder what the difference is in the ingredient list. Gotta check it out!

  22. I was just reading that the Blur Perfector is selling out! I’m sure it’s somewhat of a gimmicky product, but seems to have a lot of uses so maybe it will work for people. Hey, I’d buy it just for the packaging!
Tess Galen recently posted…July Empties 2015My Profile

    1. Yes, I noticed it was sold out on Sephora.com. I think a lot of women may have bought it for the packaging and the name. But it does blur my fine lines for a while at least, and it also works as a primer on me. And it makes my skin sooooo soft!

  23. I’ve been loving both these products and am especially obsessed with the packaging of the Blur Perfector. Totally agree that it’s one of the more gorgeous products I own!

    1. Someone else mentioned the Mally Pore Perfector as a similar product, but I haven’t tried it. I don’t think the Perfector is a game changer for me, but it does soften my fine lines and I also like it as a primer for the winter. Eager to read your review!

  25. I agree with you about the Blur Perfector, i’m going to try it again in the fall to see if it works better for me.
Kristina Vieweg recently posted…Preview: Zoya Fall 2015 Collections! My Profile

    1. Tapping the Blur Perfector on just a few places to blur lines or pores isn’t too too heavy for now, but I think I’ll prefer it in the colder weather. Also, I tried it as a primer and that worked out quite well for me too, but again I wouldn’t use it for now that way.

  26. I would love both of these. While they do seem a bit pricey, they are both something I would use daily. I love the blurring product and I would like to find a cheaper dupe of it to try it out first.
Color Me So Crazy recently posted…Beautiful Birds and Beautiful Locks: Tara Smith Haircare LineMy Profile

    1. I am not sure what a cheaper dupe would be. NYX has a serum with gold flakes in it but it’s not a primer. Some women have mentioned that Mally has a Pore Perfector but I haven’t seen it myself but may be worth a look. These are definitely luxury splurges.

    1. Exactly, Laura. It would look gorgeous on your dressing table or lovely taken out to touch up in the ladies room at a restaurant etc. It did blur my fine lines somewhat and I also like it as a primer, but I can’t say it’s a necessity.

  32. Love your review of this brand from Influenster!! These look very pricey but glad that they work for you!!

  33. Wow the pink and gold packaging is gorgeous! The primer sounds almost too hydrating for my combination skin so it might only work for me in the winter. But that’s okay because I’ll need some time to save up for it! 😉
Jessie recently posted…July 2015 Birchbox: GO BOLDMy Profile

    1. The packaging is just so girly and luxe – I love just looking at the compact! The more I use the primer, it really is appropriate for anytime. It’s a lightweight gel that sinks completely into my skin within seconds. I know that it has all those oils in the primer but they don’t sit atop my skin. If you can get to a Sephora, ask if they’ll give you a little sample to try at home, Jessie, so you can see for yourself.

  34. These are interesting products, but I don’t know that I’d ever be tempted to buy them. The packaging is gorgeous though!

  35. Ahh this looks so pretty! It’s a shame it doesn’t make any dramatic difference to your skin though
Albertine Brandon recently posted…My Thoughts On || Active Ingredients SkincareMy Profile

    1. The Primer with the gold flecks definitely increases the radiance of my skin, and along with the gold flecked serum that I also use, I can look quite illuminated and hopefully illuminating! The Perfector is an unusual product that I’ve continued to play around with. Perhaps on a younger woman, it would have a more lasting blurring effect but once you get wrinkles you’re pretty much stuck with them 😉 However, it does blur the fine lines and I also like using it as a primer so all is not lost. And then, just looking at these two gorgeously packaged products is a joy in and of itself 🙂

  36. Great review!! I got these too and love the primer! I definitely want to pick up a full size in the near future, maybe when Sephora sends out their coupons in the fall!
Priyanka Patel recently posted…Be Your Best Self TagMy Profile

    1. Thanks, Priyanka! That’s a great idea to wait till the coupon. I’m kind of saving my primer till the weather gets cooler to see if the 4 oils will make a difference. Today however, I wore the Perfector as a primer and it works well for me that way too, perhaps better than as a blur product!

  37. Their products always look so luxurious! I love the look on the primer, it’s so cool that it has flecks of gold in it, sounds like it makes the face look amazing! xx
