Treets Traditions: Looking To the Past for Bath & Body Products Today

Promotional Product & Links
Treets Traditions, a new-to-me brand of bath and body products from the Netherlands now at Ulta Beauty, looks to the past for inspiration. In fact, their mission is: “Rediscovering Natural Recipes and Age-Old Traditions for Today’s Beauty Needs.” This concept really speaks to me. Since I was a teen, I have loved finding old beauty recipes. My poor mother. I was always commandeering her kitchen to make my concoctions. So I was very curious to see what Treets Traditions had to offer.

Turns out they have a lot to offer. They have 5 different product lines, each with different names and themes:

  • Energising Secrets: moisturizing
  • Relaxing Chakras: relaxing
  • Nourishing Spirits: nourishing
  • Revitalising Ceremonies: caring
  • Healing in Harmonies: healing.

They also have a lot of products: body scrubs, body butter, body lotion, body mist, shower gel, shower cream, bath fizzers, body oil, massage oil, epsom bath salts.

I received two products to try out, one from each of two lines: Nourishing Spirits and Healing in Harmony.

Nourishing Spirits Foaming Shower Gel

The Nourishing Spirits line is described by Treets Traditions as follows: “Generations of African women have prepared balms, butters and oils out of extracts from nuts and seeds from local trees and plants to keep their skin soft and glowing. This beautiful tradition is the basis for these rich and nourishing products with a warm, sweet and spicy perfume.”

I was excited to get this product because I am a big fan of RITUALS Spa Sakura Foaming Shower Gel (reviewed here). Although I absolutely adore the Japanese cherry blossom scent of the RITUALS Spa product, I have been a little bit disappointed in the foaming action of the product. Instead of coming out in a nice foam, some watery solution sort of dribbles out and then foams up a bit when it hits the water. Maybe the spray top was defective (though I’ve tried two bottles) or maybe that’s how they do it.

So I was eager to see how Nourishing Spirits Foaming Shower Gel compared. Wowee wow wow, Nourishing Spirits Foaming Shower Gel comes out of the nozzle as thick, lovely clouds of foam! You push down and foam comes out with no problem. Push lightly on that nozzle because you get so much foam, it can be almost overwhelming. I love using this as a body cleanser and also as shaving foam. It’s perfect!

The bottle says Kalahari Melon and Baobab Oil on the front. I honestly don’t get much of a scent from this foam, especially compared to the fragrant Sakura Japanese Cherry Blossom from RITUALS Spa, but as I mentioned the product itself is superior. I assume that the baobab oil in the formula is nourishing. My skin does not feel tight immediately after using this in the shower, but then I always use a body lotion or butter. $15 for 200 ml.

Ingredients: Aqua (Water), Isopentane, Disodium Laureth Sulfosuccinate, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Glycerin, PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Parfum (Fragrance), PEG-120 Methyl Glucose Dioleate, Butane, Decyl Glucoside, Isopropyl Myristate, Watermelon Oil Polyglyceryl-6 Esters, Adansonia Digitata (Baobab) Seed Oil, Hydroxypropyl Guar Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride, Tocopherol, Sodium Chloride, Sodium Lauryl Glucose Carboxylate, Lauryl Glucoside, Isobutane, Benzyl Salicylate, Linalool, Butylphenyl Methylpropional, Limonene, Sodium Benzoate, Potassium Sorbate, Sorbic Acid, Citric Acid, Sodium Hydroxide.

Healing in Harmony Body Butter

The Healing in Harmony line is described as follows: “Due to harsh weather challenges, as in the mountains of the Alps, plants and herbs developed remarkable abilities to survive. Based on this knowledge, we developed these products made out of blends from herbs and oils. These products have a fresh perfume with a soft undertone of lavender.”

I received the Healing in Harmony Body Butter based on a recipe from 1610. Wow, that’s old!

The lavender-scented body butter is incredibly rich. It contains rosemary and beeswax. No doubt the beeswax is what gives this butter its thickness. It forms a protective coating on my skin. The next day my skin still feels hydrated. It’s perfect for someone like me with super-dry skin. $24 for 250 ml.

    1. The shower foam itself from Treets Traditions is definitely superior to RITUALS though the scent is very very faint.

  2. You see a lot of companies in the beautyworld getting inspired by old cosmetics and old recipes now-adays. It’s really cool

    1. I agree, Dina! It reminds me a little of Neal’s Yard. I love the old DIY-style and apothecary style brands. What’s a favorite of yours?

  3. Kalahari Melon? The Africa-phile in me (blame Wilbur Smith, Gandhi, Livingstone, and my Dad) is intrigued.

  4. I haven’t heard of this brand, but will check it out at Ulta. As a teen I was like you too, always mixing up a hair mask (never use mayonnaise–it makes hair super oily!) or steaming my face over a pot of boiling water, squeezing a lemon on my hair, etc.

    1. Yay, I’m glad to hear that! I remember I wanted to try beer in my hair as a teen but my parents didn’t drink it so I never did that one, but a lemon rinse followed by hanging out in the sun was my primary means of lightening my hair back then.

  5. Sounds so interesting. I hadn’t heard of the brand so it’s nice to learn about it.
