Truffles and Skincare

As you may know, chemical exfoliators are my favorites. I was offered the opportunity to try a brand that is new to me, Truffoire. Specifically, their White Truffle Facial Peeling. I didn’t actually know that it was a chemical exfoliator until I received it. But I was intrigued by the white truffle, since white truffle is so delicious on pasta. Online, I noticed that Truffoire is called Truffoire Gourmet Skincare!

Frankly, I had never heard of using truffles or the active ingredient in truffles in facial skincare, but you learn something new everyday 😉 Here’s Truffoire’s info on their key ingredient:

The ingredient that we’re talking about is famous for its incredibly unpredictable harvest, premium price, intense flavor and coveted popularity. The ingredient that we’re presenting to you is the king of the culinary world – a truffle. Adding truffles into your meals has always elevated the occasion, now it turns out that adding truffles into your skin care can prove to be even more rewarding. Experts discovered truffle’s ability to renew the age-fighting capabilities of your skin, and this discovery has been integral to restoring one’s faith and confidence in a regular skin care regimen.

In ancient times, Cicero called truffles “children of the earth” and these delicacies have been paraded in dinner parties ever since the 18th century. It might have taken some time for the skin care world to catch up, but an Italian woman named Giuseppina Balestra finally declassified the skin benefits of truffles in the 1950’s.

Truffles contain certain essential fatty acids which can diminish the appearance of lines and wrinkles. They are also known to deeply condition the skin and provide all sorts of vitamins that work towards renewing and rejuvenating the way skin looks. The vitamins found in truffles penetrate deep into the skin and promote a natural glow from within. Not to mention the absolutely amazing smell and sensual feel that truffle based products leave behind!

My Experience with Truffoire White Truffle Facial Peeling

First, the peeling mask comes in a sleek pump bottle with the pump hidden beneath an attractive pull-off top.

Like many other chemical exfoliants, the stuff itself is a translucent gel. I don’t think it has a fragrance, at least none that I can perceive, even though Truffoire mentions an “absolutely amazing smell…that truffle based products leave behind”.

I apply a thin layer of the gel to my dry skin, let it sit for about a minute, and then remove it with circular motions with my fingers. The gel, mixed with my dry skin cells, balls up, and I rinse it off with cool water. It takes just minutes to reveal smooth, velvety skin.

Additional Info

Truffoire recommends using the White Truffle Facial Peeling mask twice a week. It’s very gentle, but it makes a big difference in my skin. Plus removing the dead skin cells with a peeling mask makes my other skincare products work better!

Although I know that truffles used in cooking are very expensive, I was still surprised when I saw the price of Truffoire White Truffle Facial Peeling: $400 for 1.7 oz./50 ml. And the White Truffle Extract is the last ingredient in the list.

Ingredients: Aqua(Water), Glycerin, Propylene Glycol, Carbomer, Cocotrimonium Chloride, Phenoxyethanol, Hydroxyacetophenone, 1,2-Hexanediol, Nut Shell Powder, Disodium EDTA,Tuber Aestivum(White Truffle)Extract.

Truffoire skincare products are cruelty-free and parabens-free.

Truffoire products are sold on their website. From reading the customer comments online, it appears that Truffoire sells their extensive skincare line made up of several different collections, of which White Truffle is just one, at home shows, too. I saw that there had been one in Seattle a while ago.

I just noticed when I was on the Truffoire home page that if you sign up for emails/their newsletter, you can get a free tube of their Gourmet Body Cream as a welcome gift. Heck, maybe I’ll do that too, ‘coz I love the peeling mask. 🙂

  1. This sounds like a lovely and effective peel, but definitely an out-of-reach price tag!

    1. I know! I wish it were more affordable because I think Truffoire White Truffle Facial Peeling is my favorite among all the chemical exfoliators I’ve tried 😥

  2. Gabrielle says:

Wish I could indulge, but this is far out of my reach. *sobs*

    1. Allison says:

      Mine, too! So sad 😭

  3. I’m a medical professional and I knew right away it was a scam. The lady who sold it to me at a mall tried so hard to sell this product plus another for 200$ Ca for both so I bought it anyways. It leaves the skin smooth but nothing out of the ordinary. The cream is light and smells nice. Good for sensitive skin. If you want the benefits of truffle, you won’t get much here. For a good skin care regime, I would stick with Retinols, vitamin C, AHAs and BHAs that are a lot cheaper and proven to work.

    1. I can’t use physical exfoliators, so any of the peeling/chemical ones work for me. I don’t use Truffoire Peeling for the truffles, just for its performance, and it works really well on my skin. Plus, I didn’t have to buy it! I also like the chemical exfoliators from Theraderm and Skin Inc. I got the Skin Inc. version on sale, and that performs just about as well. The only one I changed my mind about is The Body Shop Drops of Youth – it leaves my skin with an unpleasant feeling. Although cleansers, exfoliators and masks do leave some of their key ingredients behind, I agree with you. Spend the big(ger) bucks on serums and moisturizers. BTW, I don’t know your age, but retinAL works even better than retinol for mature skin.
