Update on My Vegamour Odessey

Today, I went into Boston to get my hair recolored after 6 weeks. Boy, it needed it!

Getting my color refreshed reminded me that I should post an update on my journey with Vegamour. As you may recall, Vegamour sent me several of their “healthy hair and scalp” products last fall (reviewed here). I adore their yummy but pricey GRO Biotin Gummies, and I still buy them from time to time when there’s a sale. I’m still using the Vegamour GRO Shampoo and Conditioner that they sent me because I only use it on the part of my scalp where I am trying to regrow hair.

My Vegamour Hair Growing Journey

As I mentioned in my earlier review, I noticed last year that my hairline was receding at my temples. To say that I was disturbed by it is an understatement. I’ve always had thick hair, so seeing less of it at the top has been very upsetting.

How I Use Vegamour

My Vegamour process includes taking biotin every day, using the Vegamour shampoo and conditioner about every 5 days, and using the Vegamour GRO Serum nightly.

I started using Vegamour GRO Serum in mid-December. I apply it pretty much every night before bed to the area on my temples where I noticed the receding. It’s a clear liquid that dries quickly. I have started dabbing it in with my fingertip because where I apply it is not a flat surface, and it has a tendency to run down my temples. No biggie.

Has There Been Any Progress?

It’s been 5 months since I started using the GRO Serum, and I have been trying to determine what if anything is happening. Because the hair on my hairline is white (!), it’s difficult to tell. I’ve tried taking photos of my own head, but they haven’t been helpful. Nevertheless, I can feel little hairs on my temples, and the receded area doesn’t seem as far back as it was. The hair growth on the right side seems to be a little more than on the left, but there is some progress on the left, too.

Today, the assistant at Sassoon who washes my hair and who blew it dry, told me she definitely could see new small hairs growing on both sides!! She took a couple of pix for me. They’re hideous and you can see how bad the recession is especially on my left side, but what the heck.

At this point, I am on my second bottle of GRO Serum. I decided to subscribe to get a better price. I also got 20% off on my first purchase. What I didn’t realize is that you have to set the subscription period, so I was surprised when I received another bottle a month later. I’m not even halfway through my current bottle! I called Customer Service, and the woman I spoke to was very accommodating. My next bottle won’t arrive until September (I can also delay it further), so by then I hope to have better idea about my hair growth.

My Assessment Thus Far

I’m glad that I am trying Vegamour because my hair was only getting worse before I started. I was lucky that I received the initial PR samples to try it out because it is definitely not cheap. Minoxidil is less than half the price, I think.

Fortunately, I don’t have to use GRO Serum on my entire head or even my entire crown, so I don’t use it up as fast as some people may.

I’m encouraged by what I hope is the growth that I think I see and feel so far. I will stick with it at least till the end of the year when I will reach the one year point. Vegamour is a commitment because if I do achieve the hair growth I seek, I have to continue with the GRO Serum or my hair could revert to the way it was. It’s that way with all hair growth products including lash serum!

So, should you try it? Honestly, I can’t say. It’s a commitment. It’s rather expensive. There’s no real time-frame on results. For me at least, it’s slow going, not an easy fix at all. And there’s no guarantee that it will work.

But I’m hopeful, and I’ll continue till year’s end. I’m come back again in a couple of months for another progress report.

  1. This sounds very promising. If you are seeing the growth of the small hairs filling in, then I would say that you have found an effective line of products.

  2. HI, Allison – It’s horrifying to lose hair. I have been taking biotin for years at the advice of my dermatologist. It makes my hair grow faster but not more. Minoxodil didn’t seem to make a difference. But I definitely noticed a difference from Viviscal tablets. When I tried something else, from the Beverly Hills MD, I started losing again. I was only taking the Viviscal tabs once a day and definitely noticed an improvement even though they recommend twice a day. Since I started remembering to take it twice a day, I’ve been noticing baby hairs everywhere. I also love their shampoo, conditioner and serum which thicken the hair and make it fuller. I am addicted because I’m afraid to stop using their products and besides, I love the effects! Wishing you the best of luck – Angie, http://www.yourtrueselfblog.com

    1. That’s wonderful, Angie! I wondered about Viviscal. I have to look up the tabs and see what’s in them. Maybe I’ll add them to my regimen since they work for you! Always happy to hear about products that work 🙂
