Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick Holiday Set

I can’t sleep. I’m often up until 3am. For some reason, I get a second wind at 11pm. Actually, I’m just a night owl. And I hate to get up early. Because I’m self-employed, I don’t usually have to get up early. So my late night habits persist.

I Bought This

But I did wake up early on Black Friday. At 9am on their website, Urban Decay was selling a limited edition collection of their popular Revolution lipsticks, and I wanted to be sure I didn’t miss out. The mini-collection includes 6 classic shades of full size lipsticks: 3 reds and 3 nudes for about $50: UD Revolution miniset

from left to right:

  • Protest
  • Native
  • Naked
  • F-bomb
  • Jilted
  • Catfight

Each purple metallic tube of Urban Decay Revolution lipstick is usually $22, so this was a real deal, and a great way to try a whole bunch of their shades.

Every time I was in either Ulta or Sephora, I would stand at the shelf trying to choose one shade from their lineup of 22. I never could decide, so I always left empty-handed. Now, I’m set for a long, long time! The Revolution lipsticks are very creamy, buttery, and shiny. They are highly pigmented and have incredible color pay-off with just a swipe or two. They last quite a long time for moisturizing lipsticks, several hours unless you’re eating a meal.

They feel good on my lips, creamy and not drying. They supposedly have a plumping agent, but I haven’t noticed that. Because they are so creamy and shiny, they really do make the most of your lips. As a result, they are lipsticks that should look good on women of all ages. And if your lips are on the thin side, this formula should make your lips look fuller (and you can always do the white lipliner trick to help out a little more!). All the shades are beautiful, but my favorite of all 6 is the classic red, F-Bomb, a deep, full-throated red. Catfight is a red with more blue in it, and Jilted is a red with more purple. The swatches were photographed outside on a gloomy day with greyish light. The red shades are fairly accurate to what they actually look like, and the lip swatch is Catfight.

Native is actually a pale pink/nude that I think will look great in summer when I have a little color in my face. Naked is a true nude. The nude swatches, also photographed in wintry daylight, look pinker than they actually are. They are a little peachier than they look in the photo. I’m very happy with this collection. I don’t think the set of 6 is still available on the Urban Decay website. I looked for it, but don’t see it anymore. Sorry! But if you’re thinking about trying one of the Revolution lipsticks, go ahead and take the plunge.

The lipsticks are flavorless and tasteless. They are formulated without parabens, phthalates or sulfates. Urban Decay products are cruelty-free. I am not sure whether they are gluten-free because they contain tocopherol acetate/vitamin E, and we don’t know the source. I’m not going to list the ingredients for all six lipsticks, but just for Catfight. The dyes changes by shade.

When I read “Urban Decay” combined with lipstick, I was imagining olive drab color, or gray-brown. I’m so glad it’s pink-ish.

Sue, you’re right, that Urban Decay really sounds like a city in a state of decay, kinda like the dystopian version of LA in Blade Runner! But Urban Decay is a really fun brand with both nudes and lots of really interesting bright, fun colors. And they have fun names as you may have noticed (lipsticks like F-Bomb, and an eye shadow called Walk of Shame!). I love Urban Decay. Gotta review a bunch more of their products. 🙂

  2. Wow, these look beautiful. Wish I wore lipstick more often, I would have taken advantage of the set. I do love the Naked lip pencil that is more like gloss in stick form, pinky-nude. On another note, I bought a little Too Faced set that included the creamy lipstick I know you love….. it’s wonderful!

The Naked crayon that you bought from UD sounds great, Kim. I’ll have to check it out. These Revolution lipsticks are beautiful, and it was worth waking up early for! Glad you bought the Too Faced palette. I was checking them out yesterday at Sephora. Too Faced is just launching 5 or 6 new spring shades of the La Creme lipstick. I’m sure the one you got is beautiful, and it is so comfortable to wear!! BTW, I bought the Too Faced 3 Way tightlining tool with my Sephora bonus. It actually works!

  3. LOL, sue! I totally expect outlandish colors from UD.

  4. Wow, the lipsticks are so pigmented .. F-Bomb .. wow!

Great choices among the nudes, Icaria! Native is too pale. I was surprised that I really fell for Protest, it’s such a beautiful nude with raisiny tone. But Nars is lovely too. You’re reminding me that I should really wear my Nars Velvet Matte Pencil in a gorgeous red shade more often. In fact, I should’ve worn it to the party I just came back from tonight. Oh well, next time 😉
