Giveaway Winner & Vince Camuto “Effel” Summer Sandals

First things first. Congratulations to Becki, aka Rebecca Q, who is the winner of the Makeup Goody Bag Giveaway! Yipee! She was randomly chosen by the Rafflecopter widget. Becki, please respond to my email by Thursday evening with your mailing address so I can mail you your gift.

Thank you so much to all who entered and followed and subscribed! I really appreciate it <3 I’ll try to start stockpiling new makeup so I can do another makeup giveaway soon. In the meantime, there will be some more skincare-related giveaways coming down the pike shortly.

Now, on to today’s post. This time, one of my other passions: shoes!

I pretty much hate paying full price for anything. I do whatever I can to hunt down a sale or a coupon. So if I pay full price for something, it must be pretty special.

I fell in love with a pair of sandals. I can’t even remember how I saw them initially because I swear, I wasn’t shopping. I must have seen a picture of them online, and their beauty captured me. I’m talking about the Effel sandal from Vince Camuto.

I definitely fell in love with all the straps, the conical heel, and the caramel color of the leather. When I saw the name, Effel, they did make me think of the Eiffel tower.  I read a few reviews of how comfortable the sandals were, and that sealed the deal.

After searching high and low for a way to buy them at a better price, I gave up. The Effel sandal is exclusive to Nordstrom, and because they were new, there were no sales. I caved. I had to have these sandals.

Now that I’ve owned them for almost a month, I know I made the right decision. I adore the look of these sandals. They go with almost everything. And they are actually comfortable. They’ve become my go-to shoes for any time I’m wearing pants or a dress this summer.

In addition to the caramel color that I chose, they come in black and red.

Effel sandals are priced at $118.95. By wearing them so much, I’m amortizing the cost, lol. Maybe they’ll be on sale at Nordstrom soon since the summer is, unfortunately, marching on. So keep your eyes open if the style appeals to you, too.

Do you have a pair of new sandals that you love?

  2. I’ve never seen shoes like these, and even though I couldn’t wear the heels, I really like them! What a great pair of sandals for the summer. Come to Florida, and you could wear them all year, practically – though all this rain we’ve been having might ruin them.

    1. The new super strappy look is hot this summer, Nidia, even in flat sandals. I wore them to an art gallery opening the other night, and wouldn’t you know, we had a monsoon here. I was freaking out that I would ruin them, but fortunately, by the time we arrived, the rain slowed down a bit and I was OK. Whew

  3. Ooh I love these! They look so comfy, too. I want them NOW thanks for the giveaway

    1. Yes, Judy! Though comfort isn’t usually my criterion for purchase since I am overly influenced by the cuteness factor, these sandals are very comfortable. The heel is just the right height for me 🙂

I will get new sandals the second Birkenstock comes up with another style that doesn’t look so….Birkenstock-ish. LOL! My feet love Birks but my want of pretty things does not. We have compromised and settled on thong/flip-flops. I admit that I still cringe a little thinking about how much I spent on that pair of flip-flops (I mean, they’re flip-flops for cryin out loud!) but on the other hand I also have to admit that it was the best $120 I’ve EVER spent on my problem feet, as I’ve had these shoes for more than two years and wear them all the time. And when I feel the need for pretty, I’ve still been known to spend a little cash on 40s style wedges. I just keep my Birks in the car for a quick change on the way home. 😀

    1. Since I have essentially flat feet, I’ve never been able to develop a love of Birkenstocks. I can’t do the negative heel thing. But oh, I wish I could see your thong/flip-flops. For $120, they must be really great, Rach! Are they embellished, or beautifully constructed, or both? But I know what you mean, if you can wear those sandals all the time for two years, it was money well spent!! I too have love for 1940s style wedges or anything fashion item from the 1940s 🙂

For looks they’re just dark oiled leather and as plain-jane as I could get, hahaha. I think the style is Adria, or something like that. I figured if I was going to spend that much that I’d better get something that would mesh with as much of my wardrobe as possible. They still have some of that boho Birk vibe, but not nearly as much as the company’s other offerings. And as far as I can tell they must have stellar construction since they’re still kicking after all this time. My mother can’t wear Birks either. She says the arch is too high and gives her foot cramps. I however knew I was going to love them the moment I put them on, though I do admit that there was a couple weeks adjustment period while I broke them in.
I scored a nifty pair of 40s style burgundy suede heels at one of those fashion outlets (TJ Maxx or Marshalls or whatnot) a while back. 30s-40s are my shoe heaven! I’m glad more modern companies are doing throwback styles since it’s super hard to find vintage in my size.

    1. I’m with you, Rach, on everything (meaning the ’30s-40s styles) but the Birks. But hey, if you can wear them and they fit your style, that’s awesome. They are definitely high quality and made to last! Are you familiar with John Fluevog shoes? They are funky versions, like from Alice in Wonderland, of the 30s and 40s shoes. Unfortunately, a bit pricey but fun to look at.

I’ll bet you have a very entertaining shoe collection. 😀
That’s definitely a webshop to bookmark- thanks! I do love me some (browser)window shoe shopping! The Baroques Caravaggio immediately caught my eye, though I’m digging the Wonders K2 as well. Hmmmmmm if I gave up the makeup budget for the next year or two…… 😛
I’m always interested in seeing how others style vintage or vintage-inspired shoes, so if that interests you at all I’d love to read about it! I love finding (or making) clothing to go with my preferred fashion decades, but I love my modern wardrobe too and sometimes feel at a loss as to how to incorporate them both.

    1. I’ve gotta look at the Baroques Caravaggio (I love Caravaggio’s paintings lol) and the Wonders K2. I can’t remember the specific names of the Fluevogs I’ve looked at. Some are on sale for $99 now, but that’s still basically out of my price range for shoes I won’t wear all the time. Like you, I love vintage clothing and accessories. When I was in college, I often did retro makeup (when natural looks were in style) and wore clothing from the 1940s. I used to shop vintage all the time. I was heart broken when a gorgeous peach wool 1950s suit jacket got wet and moldy in my basement during a leak somewhere, and I had to throw it out. I’m still crying about it. I agree that mixing contemporary and vintage is fabulous. Let me know if you find any good sites! I’ll have to see if I can work up a post about it one of these days. I must go shopping in my closet and see what fits the bill. I still have some gorgeous vintage pieces that I used to wear to the opera or symphony when I lived in NYC, but no one dresses up any more especially here in the ‘burbs.
