Vintage Givenchy Organza Indecence Eau de Parfum & Body Oil

I Bought This, Affiliate Link

Givenchy Organza Indecence is an amber woody fragrance for women created in 1999 by Norbert Bijaoui in conjunction with Jean Claude Delville. I believe that Indecence, also known as “the black Indecence”, was introduced as a headier flanker to feminine and floral Givenchy Organza. Givenchy Organza Indecence came in a distinctively sexy bottle designed by Serge Mansau in frosted and clear glass in the shape of a woman’s torso surrounded by an organza (sheer, floaty silk) gown. The golden top to the bottle is a sculptural shape that may represent a woman’s head and hair or head and hat.

On Fragrantica, Givenchy Organza Indecence was described as follows:

The \’indecence\’ in the name of this Organza exactly describes the character of the \’black\’ Organza. The bouquet is composed of woodsy and spicy notes – cinnamon, patchouli, musk and amber. The fragrance is intensive, sharp even in the beginning, and yet softly sensual and erotic.

It is as if the original Givenchy Organza Indecence was created especially for me because it contains all of my favorite notes and accords. These are the accords from strongest to less strong:

  • warm spicy
  • cinnamon
  • vanilla
  • amber
  • woody
  • sweet
  • powdery
  • fruity
  • balsamic
  • patchouli.

The notes are as follows:

  • top notes: Brazilian Rosewood and Patchouli
  • middle notes: Ceylon Cinnamon and Plum
  • base notes: Vanilla, Amber and Musk.

This is MY fragrance. It’s spicy, sweet, ambery, and deep. It almost couldn’t be more perfect….except that the original fragrance was discontinued a few years after it was introduced. Waaaah! I didn’t discover it till two years ago when the folks in the Facebook Fragrance Friends group talked about it, and I knew I had to hunt it down. I bought a 5 ml bottle on Ebay for about $25 and fell in love with it. It is a brilliant, sensuous, voluptuous oriental scent.

I don’t know what has changed about me, but over the past 5-10 years, perfumes stop lasting on me like they used to. Even though those who have tried it describe Organza Indecence as long-wearing with strong sillage/projection. But on me, the EDP that I bought faded faster than I would like. So I found an unopened bottle of OI Body Oil on Ebay, and I apply the light peachy-pink body oil to my skin, and I layer the EDP on top. Yum. It is absolutely enveloping.

Because I’ve used up half of my little 5 ml bottle of the original EDP, I ordered a 1.7 fl. oz. bottle on Ebay because the original fragrance is getting harder and harder to find. And here it is in the original frosted and clear glass bottle! So pretty, isn’t it?

What happened to Givenchy Organza Indecence? It was reformulated and reintroduced in 2007 with a similar but not exact scent. One of the natural ingredients was replaced with a synthetic, in accordance with changes in the European and International Fragrance Associations norms, it was said. The bottle was also changed to something simpler, classic and probably less expensive to manufacture.

And now, I’m not even certain that Givenchy is still making the 2007 version of Organza Indecence. It is still available on Ebay, Amazon, Fragrancenet, Walmart.com, and other online discount retailers, but it doesn’t appear to be in department stores any longer. Givenchy Organza in a similarly shaped bottle (though it seemed like the Givenchy website was suggesting it might not be in that bottle) but with a floral scent is still sold at Macy’s and on the Givenchy website.

So why am I introducing you to a fragrance that was discontinued? Because if you’re a lover of oriental fragrances or amber and vanilla scents, you may just want to join me and others and hunt down those “vintage” bottles of OI at estate sales, on Ebay, Amazon etc. Genuine samples of both the original and the reformulated OI are available in many sizes from The Perfumed Court.

Allison, I love your posts on vintage fragrances. Like you, fragrances don’t last on me the way they “used to.” Finding a new fragrance is always a hunt.

    1. Thank you so much, Denise. So glad you enjoy my vintage fragrance posts. I don’t think that the decreased lastingness of fragrances is my sense of smell fading, but it must be something that physiological. However, I just received the vintage juice & frosted and clear glass bottle of Givenchy Organza Indecence that I bought from Ebay, and it truly is a beast. I put it on a couple of hours ago, and it’s still going strong, thank goodness!!

  2. Wow, the bottle alone is worth the hunt! The scent sounds otherworldly! Excellent find, Allison!

  3. How disappointing that they’ve discontinued this. The bottle is so gorgeous and finding your signature scent so difficult. I hope another turns up in your pursuit.

    1. It is disappointing that GOI was discontinued not once but twice! But I am so happy I just received the 1.7 oz bottle of the original juice in the original frosted and clear glass bottle from Ebay – it’s divine!

This sounds dreamy to me too! Like you, I favor warm, spicy, exotic scents. Heck, my current fave (also a discontinued item, darn it) is Oddity from Rag & Bone. I have to look this one up and see if I can get it!

    1. Gabrielle, I just got the 1.7 ml vintage bottle that I ordered from Ebay and in original frosted and clear glass bottle and like you said it is truly “dreamy”. I’m so happy I found it. Someday, get a vintage sample of Givenchy Organza Indecence from The Perfumed Court. It’s worth it just to try it! I will have to try Oddity from Rag & Bone – I will search for a sample

I too was a major fan of this fragrance and was so upset when I couldn’t find it in the stores, not even in Paris! It was so ME. I too have a little bottle bought on eBay and use it sparingly. I’ve bought copy cat versions but they just don’t have that top note I love. This seems to happen to every fragrance I fall in love with. Depresses me.

    1. I’m with you, Cathy. I have the same issue with fragrances. Here today, gone tomorrow for good 🙁
