Washable Reusable Grocery & Produce Bags from Purifyou for Earth Day or Any Day

These days, every day seems the same, so it’s easy to lose track. I had meant this post to go live on Earth Day, but I got my days mixed up, lol. At any rate, it’s relevant for any day!

About two months ago, I received two boxes of fabulous and versatile Purifyou Reusable Mesh Grocery and Produce bags.

They arrived just a couple of days before the Covid-19 pandemic started gaining traction in the U.S. As a result, I haven’t been able to use them for their intended purpose, i.e. in-store shopping for groceries and produce. Nevertheless, they’re terrific bags so I want to let you know about them anyway because they can be used for all sorts of things. They are just so handy!

Before I get in to describing the bags, let me tell you a little about the company, Purifyou. A family owned and operated business, Purifyou’s mission is to help people simplify their lives with useful, high quality, environmentally- and health-conscious products. Their goal is to be good stewards of the earth, including its creatures and people. A portion of their sales go to build wells for impoverished communities worldwide.

In addition, Purifyou also cares about fish! Instead of plastic bags that are often discarded improperly so they end up in the ocean entangling and killing fish, they created reusable mesh bags to use when shopping. Here’s their cute/silly video about saving the fish:

Purifyou is so creative! They came up with a simple little thing to remind you to bring your reusable mesh Purifyou bags with you. They make the cutest key rings that have an adorable wooden fish dangling from the ring. You grab your keys, and the fish remind you to bring your Purifyou bags with you. And remember #EveryBagCounts 🙂

Importantly, the bags that I received are 100% polyester with a finer mesh than the cotton versions that Purifyou also makes. With the finer mesh, you can store rice, grains, nuts etc. because they won’t fall through the fabric. The polyester mesh bags are washable, in both the washing machine and the dishwasher. So they don’t end up looking disgusting like most of the reusable grocery bags that I own. That’s why supermarkets won’t let us bring our own bags to the store these days – the common reusable bags can be breeding grounds for all kinds of germs because most are not washable.

Purifyou Reusable Grocery Bags

Purifyou Reusable Grocery Bags come in eco-conscious cardboard packaging. Inside the box are two mesh zippered pouches that you can use to store your Grocery Bags when they’re not being used, or you can use them for storage of other items. Each pouch contains either:

  • 4 large bags that measure 25″ x 15″ x 6″
  • 5 standard bags that measure 18″ x 10″ x 4″.

Here’s what the standard size bag looks like:

Both grocery bag sizes are shaped like the plastic bags we used to use with two looped handles and the top and a deep sack so they’re easy to carry. They’re semi-sheer so you can see what’s in them. They feel soft to the touch. They are made with double stitched seams, so they’re very strong! They hold up to 31 pounds, wow!

Even though we can’t bring our own bags to the supermarket right now, hopefully we will be able to in the future. But the Purifyou grocery bags can be used for things other than groceries. Just use your imagination! They’re great for storing toys, makeup, beach items, books, or anything. I’m currently using one for my crocheting project!

And the zippered pouches can be used to hold makeup, lingerie, stockings, socks, underwear, hair accessories, just to name a few things. They will be perfect for travel, once we can travel again. I can see using them to help keep things neat and organized in my suitcase some day.

Purifyou currently is offering two free fish key rings with every purchase of Reusable Grocery Bags. The box of 9 bags is currently on sale on the Purifyou website for $32.97.

Purifyou Reusable Produce Bags

The Reusable Produce Bags come in 3 sizes:

  • 2 small bags: 12″ x 8″
  • 5 medium bags: 12″ x 14″
  • 2 large bags: 12″ x 17″

These mesh bags are made of the same washable 100% polyester fabric as the Grocery Bags. The Produce Bags have drawstring closures, and tags with tare weights (for easy weighing and pricing your items).

In addition to using the bags at the store to hold and transport your purchases, the bags can be used to store your produce (except for leafy vegetables), in your refrigerator. And your fruits and veggies may even stay fresher longer with the breathable fabric. Even though I can’t currently bring my Reusable Produce Bags to the supermarket, I am able to use them to store my produce at home. My produce refrigerator drawers are so much better organized now! Plus, the semi-sheer mesh lets me see what’s inside.

Again since we’re unable to use the produce bags at the grocery stores right now, there are lots of other items that you can store in the bags. Plus, they make perfect laundry bags and protective bags for washing delicates in the washing machine as well as storage bags for all kinds of items. They can store up to 11 pounds.

The box of 9 Purifyou Reusable Produce Bags is currently on sale for $16.97.

Both sets of reusable bags are:

  • made in a facility that is free from harmful manufacturing chemicals and with the highest standards of quality control
  • BPA-free, lead-free, mercury-free, and phthalates-free.

I love my Purifyou Reusable Bags. I can hardly wait till the day when I can also use them for their original purpose: shopping!

  2. I love these for storing my onions in my pantry. 🙂 Keeps them all together and all the onion peelies keep in the bag. 🙂

  3. It’s wonderful that you can reduce waste by using these. I hate getting plastic bags at the grocery store. I’ll take paper and then recycle my reading material in them. But these would be great especially since I could wash them easily.

I love that these are washable! I’m sometimes unsure if my reusables would survive a wash.

    1. Most of my old reusable bags are not washable, and they are pretty gross by now. It made sense to me that our state is no longer allowing us to bring reusable bags to stores while trying to mitigate the virus since many bags can be pretty germy!

I’m a fan of reusable fabric bags and have a stash in my car. I also keep some in the house and use them to store assorted craft projects when I just need to move them out of the way for a short time.

  6. Our state hasn’t made the move to banning plastic bags but I love the idea of the reusable produce bags especially!

These look super nice! We’ve only been using reusable bag for the past few months! These look like a nice type to add for produce!

  8. Kathryne says:

We were at Target last week and they are still allowing reusable bags inside. I’ve only been out once though so policy might have changed. I use a delivery service for the time being.

    1. Kathryne, I am surprised at the number of commenters who say that they can bring reusable bags to the stores. I guess Massachusetts isn’t kidding around in their efforts to mitigate the virus in our crowded small state. My old reusable bags were not washable or they didn’t appear to be, and I am glad that I can toss them and replace them with these.

  9. Thank you so much for this!! I love that these are washable and are designed just like the usual plastic we’ve grown accustomed to! And always appreciate companies that give back. Yay!

    1. Thank you, Michele, for taking the time to weigh in! These Purifyou reusable bags are head and shoulders better than the ones I used to use. My old ones couldn’t be washed, and when the supermarkets in Massachusetts stopped us from brining reusable bags to local stores to help mitigate the virus, I understood why. These would be perfect, but sadly, we are required to use the stores’ bags now. I know that you and your business give back, so that would be something you would appreciate. I hope you are doing well and stay healthy!

  10. Love the idea of using reusable grocery bags! We switched a while back and it was a bit of a challenge at first but now bringing them to the grocery store is like second nature.

    1. I must live in the only state that has outlawed bringing in your own reusable bags as part of our effort to help mitigate Covid-19 because the regular reusable bags aren’t really washable. So I haven’t been able to bring these terrific washable ones to the store yet

  11. What a great option for reducing waste!
