Wet ‘n Wild Bargains!

Unlike many American girls, I didn’t grow up wearing Wet ‘n Wild. For me, it was Maybelline. And though I have worked as a focus group moderator for other affordable brands, I never got a call from Wet ‘n Wild. So I was never drawn to the brand. But this week, a couple of mega-bargains were pointed out to me, and I knew it was time to take the plunge!

I headed to Walgreens specifically on the hunt for “Smoke and Melrose”, one of the four new All Access Beauty Limited Edition Coloricon 5 pan eye shadow palettes from Wet ‘n Wild. I chose one of the biggest Walgreens stores in my area because I wanted to make sure the LEs were in stock. And there they were. Success!

Why was I on a mission, you ask? Because I passed on buying the Urban Decay Naked 3 rose gold palette. Rose gold is one of my favorite shades, and it’s the color jewelry I wear most often. Though I think it looks great on redheads, it looks wonderful on women with other hair colors too.

“Smoke and Melrose” is supposed to be one of the two dupes for UD Naked 3

along with “Melrose at Night”. The shades on S&M were a little deeper than the other 5 pan palette.  I decided I didn’t need both palettes, and I think I chose the right one for me.

There are two mattes (plum and mauve), two satins (peach and milk chocolate), and the rose gold is a metallic (the shades weren’t named). Here are the swatches:

And did I mention the price of the 5 pan palette is regularly $3.99…but through Saturday, August 30, all Wet ‘n Wild shadow palettes are $2. TWO DOLLARS!  Buy one even if you don’t think you need one. They’ll make great stocking stuffers or Hanukkah gifts in a few months time!

As I mentioned earlier, I’ve never used Wet n Wild before. I found the eye shadows in this palette to be buttery and easy to blend. Amazing for a super-affordable brand! Truth be told, they are a little bit powdery but nothing I couldn’t handle, and for the price, it’s a non-issue.

So if you passed on Naked 3, get to Walgreens where the $2 sale is on for another day or two!

While I was there, I noticed the display for the new Wet ‘n Wild lipsticks and crayons. I noticed that they were Allure Award Winners. They were $1.99 so I had to check them out.

Of course, I bought one of the matte lipsticks.

The shade I finally decided on was Urban Night, a wine red-purple, about the same shade as a Shiraz or Malbec, that got me in an autumn moodl

Processed with Rookie

Although it is not creamy so not a complete cinch to apply, it wasn’t difficult to apply either. The formula is not moisturizing, but it is not at all drying. It’s a bargain, and I like it a lot.

Wet ‘n Wild is what it is. It’s made in China. The size of the palette is 0.21 oz./6 g, and the lipstick is 0.11 oz./3.3 g. I paid $4 total for the two items. So if you want a cheap thrill, go for it with no regrets!

Both the Snow White and Ariel Disney Limited Editions in several different options were at Walgreens too, if you’re still on the lookout for them.

  1. Hi Allison,

That’s a bargain! $2 for a 5 color eyeshadow pallette, I would not skip that one (if it were to exist here, LooL), but you didn’t mention anything about the ingredients, is it safe? Being made in China, makes me wonder if I should give it a try.
    Happy labor day 🙂

    1. Dima, basically they are made of pressed powder (talc) and dyes with some dimethicone added to make them easy to apply plus some other additives that are typical for the U.S.: tocopherol (vitamin E), Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Caprilyly Glycol, Glycerin plus a few more. It is not a pure mineral powder like the natural Fusion of Color indie brand eye shadows I reviewed earlier in the summer. But it terms of performance, these Wet ‘n Wild eyeshadows go on and stay on quite well. I think they are well worth it for an affordable, drugstore brand. I was surprised to find another one of Wet ‘n Wild’s Color Icon Eyeshadow Palettes listed on a cruelty-free list. Interestingly, the company who manufactures Wet ‘n Wild, Markwins, is the manufacturer of the makeup for the band One Dimension that is just launching worldwide and is being sold in department stores. I’d say that quality is decent!

  2. I hated Wet n Wild when I was a teen. Everything was so sheer and chalky back then! And now that they’ve upped their game, they left the country! Argh! That is such a pretty palette. The shades are great for everyday looks.

    1. Isn’t that the way, Gio! I guess they have really upped their game. For me, these shades are also good for evening because they are actually deeper and satin-ier than I usually wear, lol!

  4. I love and not so love W-n-W shadows. The older ColorIcon palettes, 3 and 8 pan are stellar, the newer 8 pan are so-so. I haven’t gone for the five, yet. I need to pick up a couple and give them a whirl. I read good things about the matte lippies, time to give them a test drive, as well.

    1. Oh boo! Heather, I made a special trip to the biggest Walgreens around to have a better chance of finding the LE displays, and I did. You are so sweet to say the palette looks good on me. I was hoping it would be a hit! And yes, the lippie will be especially great once fall really hits (though it’s so cool tonight, it feels like fall already in New England). Go for it with the Snow White lashes! They can keep the Ariels company, lol!! I hope all these goodies will show up at your store soon 🙂

  21. You convinced me, Allison!
If I find this brand in the stores, I will give it a try. Unfortunately, I haven’t, yet! But I would like to buy this particular eye shadow palette, it looks great on you and I guess it fits brown eyes too, what do you think?

(Dima, I have been meaning to tell you that I am 2/3 of the way through writing the coconut oil review. I’ll email you next week at some point! It’s a really good coconut oil, much better than the one I bought at the natural food supermarket)

  22. Yes, it is ! Makeup can be fun 🙂
    That’s great news!
