What I Bought in Asheville NC

We were only in Asheville for less than two days.

And we were there to celebrate Jeff’s granddaughter’s 2nd birthday. So there wasn’t much time for shopping. (P.S. She loved the dinosaur dress I bought her so much, she instantly put it on over her clothes and wore it for the rest of the evening!)

However, as we passed through the downtown, I ran into my favorite store that is the former Kress building that now holds a myriad of independent shops with an emphasis on pottery, jewelry, household decor, and art. Jeff was waiting for me outside, so I knew I had minutes, like less than 10, to do my once over.

Because I thought the hotels would have body lotion, I didn’t bring any with me from home. Was I wrong! One of the shops in the Kress building was selling Mountain Mist Shea Creme in a 4 oz. tub for $15. There were about 10 different fragrances, so I quickly smelled them all. Many of the scents were lovely, but I am a fan of Donna Karan’s Cashmere Mist bath oil (‘coz it lasts longer on me), so I didn’t hesitate to buy Mountain Mist Cashmere Vanilla Shea Creme.

The fragrance is divine, and the pale pink/peach shea butter/creme provides lasting hydration for my parched skin. In fact, it contains over 30% shea butter. It goes on smoothly, absorbs quickly, and leaves my skin feeling like silk.

In fact, the air in the hotels we stayed at was so dry that I have gone through at least a quarter of the tub already. I kept thinking I should have purchased two, but since I hadn’t used it before I just bought the one.

Although I wished I bought an extra, I discovered that Mountain Mist has a website where they sell Cashmere Vanilla Shea Creme for $3 less than at the shop in Asheville. It is $12, and they also sell smaller 1.9 oz. sizes for travel for $8. In addition, I learned that Cashmere Vanilla is a new fragrance. Frankly, I can’t remember what all of them smell like (though most are self-explanatory and they all smelled great as I went down the line sniffing the testers), but here’s the list:

  • Bliss
  • Cashmere Vanilla
  • Citrus Basil
  • Lavender
  • Mango Sunset
  • Orange Blossom
  • Peppermint Ice
  • Rain
  • Spearmint Eucalyptus
  • Sprig
  • Sunshine Kisses
  • Naked (their unscented shea creme that right now is out of stock).

Check out the Mountain Mist website to see all of the handmade bath, body, facial skincare, and home products. All Mountain Mist products are free of petroleum, mineral oil, dyes, parabens, and palm oil. They are handmade from natural ingredients and are not tested on animals. In addition, to selling in local shops in Asheville, Susan, the owner, sells her products at craft fairs and farmer’s markets. But till I the next time I return to Asheville, I will shop their online store!

I love that dress and it’s obviously a big hit. It would make me so happy to give a gift as loved as this. Sounds like such a wonderful trip for you and Jeff.

Love that Jeff’s granddaughter adored the dinosaur dress you got her. I laughed out loud reading about Jeff waiting for you while you shopped and that you had 10 mins max! So typical. I once ran into a London department store, hit the Mac counter and bought my favorite lipstick in under 2 minutes. I think my partner was actually impressed. Lol

    1. You got it, Mary! In Amsterdam several years ago, I left Jeff having coffee and reading a book at a cafe outside of Amsterdam’s major department store. I literally ran through the store, picked a top off of the rack, ran in and tried it on, bought it, and ran back to Jeff scolding me for taking so long. I think that was 20 minutes. But you are to be commended for getting a MAC lipstick in less than 2 minutes, congrats!!
