Youngblood Outrageous Lashes Mineral Lengthening Mascara – Cobalt Blue

I love colored mascara so when I had a chance to try out Youngblood Outrageous Lashes Mineral Lengthening Mascara in new cobalt blue, I jumped. Although one of the “rules” of makeup is that if you have blue eyes, you should avoid blue eye makeup. Well, I beg to differ. Blue eye makeup, especially eyeliner and mascara, enhances my blue eyes IMHO.

Although I’ve been familiar with the name, Youngblood was a new brand for me. It’s a mineral makeup brand, natural, talc-free, and cruelty-free. Take a look at Youngblood’s website to learn more about their product line.

I have a cobalt blue sweater that I love, and I sort of expected the mascara to be bright blue.

Sometimes bright blue mascara can be a little glaring. Fortunately, Youngblood Lengthening Mascara’s cobalt blue is actually a medium blue, almost a navy blue, and it isn’t jarring at all.

The blue lashes effect isn’t in-your-face. In fact, one of my friend’s complicated me yesterday on my “blue eyeliner” because when I applied it to my lower lashes, it provided a nice liner-like look.

Youngblood mascara is billed as a “lengthening” mascara, but I did find that it gave my lashes enough volume as well to be considered “an all-around mascara”.

It has a traditional wand, and it’s easy to apply.

No flaking, no clumping, smudge-proof, long-wearing. Here’s what it looks like on me!

Youngblood Outrageous Lashes Lengthening Mineral Mascara is formulated with L-Arginine, an essential amino acid that moisturizes and strengthens, Panthenol, a B vitamin that keeps lashes flexible and hydrating Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice. The mascara is also free from perfumes and chemical dyes. Youngblood also makes mascara in Blackout (black) and Mink, (rich brown), but I’m not sure if it’s exactly the same formula.

It’s available in the US, Canada, Australia, and other countries worldwide. It is also sold in select salons. I was amazed to discover that a salon less than 10 miles from my home carries Youngblood! Here’s a link to the Youngblood mascara in cobalt that’s new for Holiday 2015.

  1. Wow, it certainly gave you a lot of length, and I can definitely see where the blue-eyeliner comment came from. Love it on your lower lashes. Blue mascara will probably not show up on my lashes or skintone, but would be cool to try coloured mascara for a change.

  12. Such a lovely shade of blue. I’m always intrigued with colored mascaras – I’m going to have to get around to trying one out soon!

    1. You should, Lisa! I’m a fan of blues and purples especially.

  13. Rachel R. says:

I’ll have to check this out. I’m allegic to most mascara brands, but if this is mineral based and fragrance free, there’s a good chance it would work on me.

I love colored mascaras when I can find one I get along with. Almay and Physician’s formula are good for me. (I’ll never forgive Almay for DCing Raisin Quartz Mascara. Never.) Nyx Color Mascara and Jordana Dramatic Effects don’t bother my eyes and have fantastic colors, but I have to wear them over a primer and/or black mascara, because they don’t volumize. I love any color, but my favorites are purple, burgundy, navy and cobalt.

    1. I don’t believe the Youngblood mascara has a fragrance, Rachel. If I were home, I’d sniff and confirm that, but I don’t recall any scent. I tried some colored mascaras from Jordana but none of them showed up on my lashes. I didn’t know NYX had colored mascara. I have used a number of Dior mascaras, and there’s are wonderful but you may be allergic to them since you didn’t mention them. Several years ago, Bourjois had lot of colors, but now it’s so hard to find that brand. Did you get any of the Milani LE Mediterannean collection mascaras from summer 2014? Those blues were pretty intense1 Your color choices are the same as mine!

      1. Rachel R. says:

I checked the Youngblood website, and it said no fragrance. I didn’t find the blue mascara, though. Unfortunately, I missed out on the Milani ones.

I found the biggest help with the Jordana and Nyx mascaras is wearing primer underneath. Alone, they’re too liquid and runny and don’t stick nearly as well. I like UD Subversion and Tarte Opening Act best. I bought some of e.l.f.’s, but haven’t tried it yet.

I really like the Youngblood blue on you. Phooey on not matching your eye color. I think this one is dark enough it makes your lighter blue eyes look more intense. I stayed away from olive and khaki eyeshadows for much too long because I believed the don’t match your eye color rule. It turned out those shades make my eyes look even more green.

        1. I think the Youngblood Outrageous Lashes Lengthening Mascara in Cobalt is brand new for Holiday 2015, but here’s the link in case you are interested in taking a look: http://www.ybskin.com/eyes-27/mascara.html I’m glad to hear that you’re wearing olive and khaki shadows. Here’s to breaking the rules!!

          1. Rachel R. says:

            Thank you for the link!

          2. You’re welcome, Rachel! Just in case you wanted to take a look 🙂

  14. I would love to try a marsala shade mascara but still going strong with the classic black 🙁 Definitely love the shade and it looks like a beautiful blue to try. xo

  15. I love wearing pops of color on my lashes and lash line, it’s such a fun way to play around with brighter shades. I’ve heard of this brand, but have never tried it myself. The mascara sounds great!

  17. I don’t think colored mascaras show up on me though I’ve tried some bright ones (and didn’t like them). The blue looks good on you though and helps whiten your actual eyes.
MarciaF recently posted…November’s Free Beauty Events giveawayMy Profile

    1. I think you’re right, Marcia, that colored mascara doesn’t show up as well on those with naturally dark lashes & dark eyes. But even on me, some shades can really be jarring. This one is quite subtle. I didn’t think about blue giving the appearance of whiter eyes. I’m gonna look next time I wear it. That would be a plus!

  18. I have dark lashes so colored mascaras don’t do me justice. I need to try this brand ‘tho

    1. Well, you may very well be right, Destany. And colored mascara doesn’t always show up on women with dark lashes and eyes.

  21. It isn’t as visible on me, but I still like this mascara. It’s such a fun color of blue, without being too much. It really does look great on you, especially on your lower lashes.
Nidia – Lit From Within recently posted…Beauty is Pain…or at Least A Bit Uncomfortable! My Profile

    1. Yes, it definitely shows up better on my lower lashes because it gets onto my skin almost like eyeliner. On my upper lashes, you can see it from the side, but it definitely is a subtle blue so I’m not surprised that it doesn’t show up as well on your probably naturally dark lashes? I like it even though it’s not bright, probably even better than if it were bright 🙂

  22. Ursula @blueridgebeautyblogger says:

I have tried navy blue that is more of dark blue/black color but it made my eyes bolder and awake! Love how your eyes look after the eye liner and mascara!

    Ursula

    1. Thank you, Ursula! I’m glad to hear that you have had great results with a blue-black mascara on your dark lashes and eyes! I’m not actually wearing eyeliner, but the blue mascara deposits blue color when I apply it to my lower lashes so it looks like eyeliner. Two for one!

  23. I love that this is subtle but still a noticeable blue tint. I think it looks great, especially with your red hair!

    1. Thank you, Kristina! I agree – the Youngblood Mascara in cobalt just blue enough!

  24. I love coloured mascara too, but I do find there is usually a trade off when it comes to lengthening and volumizing. This is a really great shade though!
Bailey recently posted…Beauty Blog Coalition Weekly Roundup Vol. 61My Profile

    1. The Youngblood cobalt mascara did give me enough volume, even though it’s billed as a lengthening mascara. Many lengthening mascaras are wet, but this one isn’t. It seemed to have a formula that builds up both ways.

  25. Natalie Brown says:

I haven’t worn colored mascara in years but I’m noticing more and more companies coming out with wearable shades. This blue is really pretty and certainly something I’d wear. It does look like liner on your lower lashes and isn’t at all glaring. It just adds a really gorgeous touch of color. 🙂

    1. Thank you so much, Natalie! I love colored mascara, but these days I am looking for subtler shades and this one really fits the bill!
