Zoya Professional Nail Lacquer: Brigitte

Zoya, one of my favorite nail polish brands, had a great promo in January: buy 3 polishes and pay only $12 shipping/get the polish free. What a deal because their polishes are usually $9-10 each!

I fell in love with one of Zoya’s new shades, part of the Naturel Collection for Spring 2014, Brigitte, a nude/mauve shade.

When it arrived and I saw it up close, I liked it even more. When I hear mauve, I think the awful pinky/purple shade from the 1980s. This is not that. It’s a mauve cream that is feminine, classic and looks great with just about any neutral color (with brights, not so much).

Like other Zoya polishes, it’s 3 free: no DBP, toluene or formaldehyde. It has a normal, slim brush and is easy to apply. Two coats covered well with no streaking. It dried very quickly.

Unfortunately, it started to chip at the tips the next day and by day 3, I had lots of chips. I used Deborah Lippmann base and topcoats that, in spite of their high price and the incredible shininess of the topcoat, I’m not sure are the best for longevity. I will try Brigitte again with Revlon base coat and essence gel look topcoat to see if I get better results.

I still love this shade. I think it’s the prettiest nude ever. It looks great with my cool skin tone, so I want this to work out!

Brigitte by Zoya is 0.5 fl. oz/15 ml and is regularly priced at $9. It’s cruelty-free and vegan. Zoya is available at zoya.com, Ulta, amazon.com, and probably at other retail stores and salons near you!

And on a different note, if you haven’t already heard, Urban Decay is having their 20% off Friends & Fanatics Sales till Valentine’s Day this Friday. The code is FFSPRING14.

Urban Decay Friends & Fanatics 20% off Sale

It’s good on most UD products, Naked 3 is excluded (no surprise there). Also, they’re giving a bonus of a deluxe sample of UD Anti-aging Eye Primer with any single eye shadow purchase. Heck, if you’re wondering what to buy, get a full-size Anti-aging Eye Primer. It is the best! Also, consider a Revolution lipstick. There are so many great choices, have fun!

  1. What a pretty shade! I have a hard time finding a mauve that works with my skintone. Maybe I should give this a try! 🙂

I think this shade will be in stores soon, Amber, since it’s part of their new nude line-up. You should check it out! Mauve isn’t a shade that I normally would have considered, but this is so pretty. A great alternative to a traditional nude for me 🙂

  2. We have a very similar skintone! 🙂 The entire Naturel collection was gorgeous; I had to stop myself from buying all of them and I’m actually wearing Brigitte right now. It’s made it most of a week with Duri base and Butter London top coat, but it’s showing a lot more tipwear than I’d like. Will try a different combo next time here as well. I’ve resorted to keeping a notebook where I record which base and top coats work with some of my more picky colours, since I often forget in between wearings.

I could’ve bought the whole line, too!
What a smart idea, Rach! I only have Revlon base, essence topcoat, Orly sec cite & Devorahippmann base & top. So far, the pricey DL products don’t work as well as the cheapies, but the topcoat has great shine!

  3. That looks just like my kind of shade, so pretty! It looks great on you!

It is a beauty, Gio! I bet it would look great on you 🙂

  4. I’ve not tried that Essence top coat. I wonder if my Ulta carries it… Is it quick dry? I try not to have TOO MANY base and tops sitting around but it’s nice to have a couple options, isn’t it? 🙂
My favourite base right now is split between Duri Rejuvacote and Orly Bonder. My fave top coat is definitely Butter London’s Hardwear but it’s certainly on the pricier end. I’ve read a lot of nice things lately about Glisten & Glow HK Girl top coat, so I think I’ll give that a try when my stash runs low.

    1. Allison says:

The essence topcoat is a good cheap option, it’s $2.49 USD. I’ve had good luck with it. I’m not familiar with the Duri Rejuvacote but I’ll keep it on my list. As a matter of fact, I recently put Orly Bonder on my list but I’ve had good luck with Revlon’s newest base coat so I think I’ll use that up. Altho I know the base coat really matter, somehow the topcoat seals the deal (literally) for me. My friend had good results with Guerlain’s Le Gel Topcoat but I balked at the price. I know Butter London is pricey but may be worth a try for me since I trust the brand. Not familiar with Glisten & Glow HK Girl, but will be on the look out. Thanks for all the great suggestions, Rach!
