ViaBuff Exfoliator for Face & Body

VaiBuff Level 1 Extra Gentle Mini Buff & Body Exfoliator neversaydiebeauty.com @redAllison

To me, January is skincare month. One of the most important things you can do to take care of your skin is exfoliate. Not only is it healthier for your skin to remove dead skin cells, but exfoliation helps your skincare products work better by allowing them to get absorbed into the skin.

Just before the holidays, I received a new type of exfoliating puff from the brand, ViaBuff. I got a small Mini Buff for my face and a larger Body Exfoliator. There are specially designed to address different skin types and skin conditions.

Here’s how ViaBuff describes them: “The Viabuff Mini Buff Exfoliator and Body Exfoliator (are) non-sensitizing, non-irritating, cruelty-free, and dermatologist-tested. This product does not contain harsh abrasives.”

The ViaBuff for face – the Mini Buff – is small, 3″ in diameter, while the one for body is big, 5″ in diameter. Each one is available in four different colors that signify the type of skin or skin condition it was designed for:

Level 1: Purple: Extra Gentle
Ideal for Oily Skin, Acne, Psoriasis

Level 2: Pink: Mild
Ideal for Normal Skin, Eczema

Level 3: Light Green: Moderate
Ideal for Dry Skin, Ingrown Hairs, Keratosis Pilaris, Waxing

Level 4: White: Clinical
Ideal for Very Dry Skin

Although my skin is very dry, I received purple, the extra gentle exfoliators designed for oily, acne, and for those with psoriasis.

What makes the ViaBuff exfoliators totally different from the inexpensive plastic poufs that have been around for years is that the ViaBuff exfoliators have soft spongey petals that are made with an “open cell” structure that fills with small amounts of water when wet so that your cleanser sits on top of the sponge rather than absorbing into it. As a result, you can use less cleanser every time you use it. When wet, ViaBuff becomes pillowy soft and increases in size, returning to its original size when air dried.

I like the purple, extra gentle Mini Buff for my face. In fact, I think it’s fine for my sensitive, very dry skin, although I’m curious about the Level 4 Clinical Mini Buff for Very Dry Skin. The Level 1 Extra Gentle Mini Buff is very soft, and it’s so easy to use. I like sponges, and this really fits the bill.

I also like the Level 1 Extra Gentle Body Exfoliator that I use in the shower.

It too is exceptionally soft. But in this case, I would actually prefer a buff that was more exfoliating to help remove more of my dry skin. When I replace this, I believe I will try the Level 4.

The ViaBuff Body Exfoliator has a clear plastic loop that you can use to hang it in the shower when you’re not using it and afterwards to air dry. I had a bit of a hard time finding the loop amidst the petals of the sponge itself, but I’m glad I found it!

ViaBuff also makes “duo” versions of the Body Exfoliator where you get two different “levels”, one on either side of the exfoliator. You can get a number of combinations but here’s a combo of Levels 2 and 3:

Very cool indeed! They also sell accessories like a 19″ handle that makes it easier to scrub your back! You can purchase the Buffs individually, $4 for the Mini Buff and $11 for the Body Exfoliator, or you can buy them in combo packs. Whatever your skin type or issue, ViaBuff can address it. Check out the ViaBuff website for further details. You can purchase ViaBuff on the website or on Amazon. Handcrafted in the USA.

    1. Exfoliating is so important so you’re not strange at all. These are really cool. I’d love to try one of the Duo Body Exfoliators next time!

  1. I totally need one of these. My body skin gets so dry and icky in the winter. They look really cool, too.

    1. I really like them, Rachel. But if I were choosing, I would have gotten the Level 4 for very dry skin Body Exfoliator or one of the duos for body for some extra exfoliation for my very dry skin. For my face, the Level 1 seems fine.

        1. I’m so curious about those duos, Rachel. If you do pick one up at some point, let me know which combo you choose and what you think. I’m not sure if going with a Level 1 or 2 with Level 4 would work best for me, but that’s the direction I’m thinking about next 🙂

    1. “Forced purchase”! Oh no! I really like these exfoliators. I’m a fan of sponges so these suit me to a T (pardon the pun). When I’m too lazy to use my Foreo Luna, I grab my Mini Buff and I certainly use it every few days to exfoliate my face. The Body Exfoliator sure beauty a mesh pouf. And they are affordable too. If you take the plunge, let me know what you think 🙂

    1. I didn’t get to choose, Marcia. I was surprised that Level 1 Extra Gentle that is supposed to be for those with acne, psoriasis or oily skin seems to be fine for my sensitive, dry skin. But for my dry skin on my body, I’d like to try Level 4 for Very Dry Skin that I assume will be more exfoliating. I would love to see the all so I can see what the differences are, but unfortunately, I only received the one type.

    1. I’m dying to try one of the duo versions of the Body Exfoliator. Yes, they look very cool and I’d love to see the difference between the two sides!

        1. Helen, I’ve gotta thank you for this typo! I laughed out loud for 5 minutes straight, and I definitely needed a good laugh. Jeff thought I had lost it! Based on your erudite reviews, I didn’t for a moment doubt that you used a new term “spume” that I wasn’t aware of. I honestly was just about to look it up when I noticed your reply. I just couldn’t stop laughing at myself!

    1. I like the Mini Buff for times when I don’t feel like using my Soniclear or Foreo or when I don’t feel like using an exfoliating mask. It’s so quick & easy. And the Body Exfoliator is just great, but with my scaly skin I need a higher level or a duo – next time!

  2. I haven’t been exfoliating as much recently, but I need to so badly. It’s so bad I might as well go get a facial and start all over. I’ve always used a cleaning brush though, I had one but it broke and now I need a new one. Maybe I’ll give these a try instead.

    1. You should definitely exfoliate if not with a cleansing brush than with a exfoliating cleanser or one of the Mini Buffs for $4USD! Too bad you missed the Michael Todd sale – everything for 50% off for at least a month including their cute and effective Petite Soniclear!

  3. I love your review of this puffs…I have long stop using “plastic puff” which were actually causing dry skin issues in the shower! Love soft sponges! 🙂

    1. The ViaBuff exfoliating sponges are great! The fact that they come in different “strengths” for different skin types and issues is terrific! Plus they’re affordable.
