Salma Hayek Nuance Renewed Radiance SPF 30 Moisturizing Day Cream

A while back, I was searching for an affordable daytime moisturizer with an SPF of at least 30, and I found Salma Hayek Nuance product line at CVS. Priced right ($16.99 at CVS and even less on Amazon) and in attractive, clean-looking black & white packaging, I thought I’d give Salma Hayek Nuance Renewed Radiance Moisturizing Day Cream a try.

Because I have dry skin, I favor cream rather than lotion, and Salma Hayek Nuance Renewed Radiance Moisturizing Day Cream does not disappoint. Although it’s definitely thick, it absorbs fairly quickly and leaves my skin feeling soft and supple. Is this moisturizer for everyone? I’d say no, it’s best for dry skin, very dry or mature skin, or normal skin in cold winter climates.

I don’t usually like moisturizers with a strong scent, so Salma Hayek Nuance Renewed Radiance Moisturizing Day Cream fits the bill. It has a very subtle, slightly floral, clean scent. Frankly, you can hardly smell it. So, if you usually go for unscented products, give this one a sniff.

Although this moisturizer (and the whole product line) has many natural ingredients such as jojoba, sunflower seed oil, lavender oil, rose water, pomegranate, licorice, agave etc., the sunscreen ingredients are popular chemical ingredients: avobenzone, octinoxate and octisalate, and the product does contain alcohol. In addition, it is paraben-free, noncomedogenic, hypoallergenic, and dermatologist tested but not tested on animals. Here’s the complete ingredient list:

Active Ingredients: Avobenzone (3%), Octinoxate (7.5%), Octisalate (5%). Inactive Ingredients: Water (Aqua), Octyldodecyl Neopentanoate, C12-15 Alkyl Benzoate, Butylene Glycol, Glycerin, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Punica Granatum (Pomegranate) Sterols, Ethylhexyl Palmitate, Glycyrrhiza Glabra (Licorice) Root Extract, Albizia Julibrissin Bark Extract, Opuntia Ficus Indica Stem Extract, Physalis Angulata Extract, Agave Tequilana Leaf Extract, Anthemis Nobilis Flower Oil, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Oil, Rosa Centifolia Flower Water, Fragrance (Parfum), Tocopheryl Acetate, Cetearyl Alcohol, Coco-Glucoside, Stearic Acid, Behenyl Alcohol, Glyceryl Stearate, Palmitic Acid, Myristyl Alcohol, Lauryl Alcohol, Cetyl Alcohol, Lecithin, Propylene Glycol Stearate, Polysorbate 20, Sorbitan Laurate, Propylene Glycol Laurate, Carbomer, Acrylates/C 10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Sodium Hydroxide, Disodium EDTA, Ethylhexylglycerin, Phenoxyethanol, O-Cymen-5-ol, Yellow 5 (CI 19140), Yellow 6 (CI 15985).

For those of you who are gluten-free, you would have to check the origin of Tocopherol Acetate. I think the lecithin is OK because it’s not listed as “soy lecithin”.
