Burt’s Bees Lipstick

Because Burt’s Bees used to add peppermint oil to their tinted Lip Shimmers, I ended up tossing all that I owned because my lips were so dried out. And I avoided the Burt’s Bees lip products for years. But that has ended, and I’ve come back to the fold because of new Burt’s Bees Lipstick.

A few weeks ago, Burt’s Bees launched a line of lipsticks in 14 shades that are positioned as moisturizing lipsticks. Here’s what Burt’s has to say about them:

“Intense color meets conditioning 8-hour moisture. Full-coverage, vibrant color in 14 shades made with 100% naturally moisturizing ingredients like moringa and raspberry seed oils to help soften and condition your lips all day long.

• 8-hour moisture
• 100% Natural
• 14 versatile shades deliver luscious, bold color
• Smooth, satin finish
• Doesn’t dry out lips
• Helps to hydrate and moisturize lips leaving them feeling soft and smooth
• Features naturally moisturizing ingredients such as Beeswax, Moringa Oil, Raspberry Seed Oil, and Vitamin E”

I picked up Scarlet Soaked, shade 520, at CVS a couple of days ago. The lipsticks come in a lightweight plastic, recyclable square tube. As you can see, the tube is brown with a honeycomb that allows the shade of the lipstick to show through. Cute.

Because this is red, I used a clear lip liner. Next time, I’ll use a red lip liner, lol, ‘coz sometimes I can’t see the clear liner! Scarlet Soaked was easy to apply. It pretty much covered in one pass.

The lipstick looks creamyish on my lips and has a satin finish. It is very lightweight.

Since my lips are so dry, I’m not a great judge on whether this is hydrating or not. It’s not hydrating like Too Faced La Creme is. But thankfully, it is not drying.

The lipstick does fade with time. In fact, I put on a second coat about an hour or so after I first applied the first coat. It lasted more than 6 hours. It didn’t disappear till l ate a meal. At the end of the day, it left behind a stain. I’m impressed with the quality of the Burt’s Bees Lipstick. It’s much higher quality IMHO than the lip balms and shimmers.

Scarlet Soaked (dumb name, IMHO) is a great shade of warm red. It’s a happy color!

  1. Oh I hope these will make their way to Canada soon enough, I love the whole concept of these lipsticks. The packaging is really modern look for BB – no more yellow, wow!
I actually quite like their lip shimmers – one of my favourite tinted balms. 🙂

    1. True! No yellow! Instead we’ve got the honeycomb, but I like that. I’m glad you can wear the Lip Shimmers. I must have had 8 of them, and I couldn’t figure out what it was that made them impossible for me to wear, and then someone mentioned the peppermint oil. I should have checked first! So happy that these don’t have peppermint oil, yay!

  2. I picked up 2 of these–Sunset Cruise, a coral/peach that would look great on you and Suede Splash, a brownish peach. I’d like to get Iced Iris and Blush Basin when they go on sale. Not super moisturizing, but better than most.

    1. Thank you, Brigette! It’s a great shade for sure. Although on my super dry lips, it isn’t moisturizing, it also is not drying which is a big plus for me. And I found it to be fairly long wearing. The best part is the saturated color and the lightweight feel. I think you’d like the new Burt’s Bees lippies!
