Oldie but Goodie: Sealed With A Kiss Lipstick Fixative

There are some products that aren’t fancy, aren’t cute, and aren’t trendy. Instead, they have staying power, pardon the pun. Sealed With A Kiss Lipstick Fixative is kind of an old-school product.

I think I’ve known about Sealed With A Kiss Lipstick Fixative forever. I used to buy it at Walgreen’s, but they discontinued it a few years ago. Sephora came out with their own version of lipstick fixative, and they too dropped it. I guess they thought the advent of long-wearing lipstick ended the need. Well, I beg to differ. I don’t always wear long-wearing lipstick, so I’m happy to have this little miracle product when I need it.

You just apply your lipstick, blot if you’ve got a lot on, and then roll some SWAK over it. Now your lipstick will stay on for a loooooong time. Six hours according to the Sally Beauty website blurb about the product.

The package claims that Sealed With A Kiss Lipstick Fixative “makes lipstick: smear proof, smudge proof, kiss proof”. It’s made in the U.S., and it’s not tested on animals, both good things.

The back of the package also suggests another way to use the product: as a base to prevent lipstick from bleeding or “feathering” into fine lines around the mouth. Worth a try.

In spite of my positive feelings toward Sealed With A Kiss Lipstick Fixative, it’s not perfect. After you’ve had it a while, the roller ball will get stuck if you don’t clean the lipstick build-up off the ball. So, if you clean it after every use or every couple of uses, it’ll continue to roll easily.

My second complaint is that it is drying. It must have the same ingredient in it that long-wearing lipsticks have that is also drying. Or it’s the alcohol. And if my lips are very chapped, the alcohol stings for a minute. As I’ve said before, at what price beauty?

The price of Sealed With A Kiss Lipstick Fixative was $5.49 at Sally’s Beauty Supply where I bought mine. Sally’s, drugstore.com and Amazon are the only places that I’m aware of where you can buy it. The product is small in size so it easily fits into your makeup bag. And the 5 ml lasts me a long time.

Ingredients: SD Alcohol 38B, Isopropyl Myristate, Hydroxypropylcellulose, Flavor

So in spite of its little drawbacks, SWAK continues to be one of my staple products. Has anyone ever used SWAK? Anybody gonna give it a try?

Here’s the link to SWAK on Amazon if you’d like to check it out:

    1. Glad to hear from another fan! Thanks, Tina, for your comment. I don’t know Ball Beauty, but I found mine at Sally’s Beauty Supply. And I think I also saw it at Walgreens maybe?

  1. Great stuff, I’m glad I found it again. I used to use this all the time, but use it over a a regular lipstick. I hadn’t tried it under a lipstick, but this was better than any of the “lasts all day” lipsticks. And it made ANY color into a long-lasting one.
It did not dry my lips out, but the long-lasting ones I buy in two tubes do. It’s a bit minty flavored, but not too strong, I didn’t mind it.

    1. Oh, that’s great, Joy! Thanks so much for visiting and taking the time to comment! SWAK has gotten more difficult to find around here though I sometimes can get it at Sally Beauty. Over the years, my lips have become more sensitive to the peppermint oil that might be in it, and when I’m not using SWAK, I’ll use Too Faced Lip Insurance that’s gentler on my lips that is applied under the lipstick like a primer.
