Too Faced Shadow Insurance Lemon Drop Color Correcting Eye Shadow Primer

This is a strange way to start off a post on a beauty blog. I have blepharitis, a fairly common chronic inflammation of the eyelid that may be due to blocked oil glands in the eye. It is related to the dry eye condition that I also have. The symptoms are dry, reddish looking eyelids which are none too attractive, believe you me! So I am always looking for ways to moisturize the dry skin on my eyelids and to hide the red.

While looking around Ulta recently, I discovered Too Faced’s line of eye primers, and one of them jumped out at me: Too Faced Shadow Insurance Lemon Drop Color Correcting Eye Shadow Primer . Yikes, that’s a mouthful! Color correcting is all the rage, so I guess I shouldn’t have been surprised to find a color correcting eye primer.

Lemon Drop primer is a buttery, lemony yellow that’s formulated to neutralize the red on my lids.

And it does, it tones down my red lids so whatever color shadow I’m applying will look the way it’s supposed to look. In addition, I don’t usually wear eye shadow above the crease of my eyes anymore, so the color correcting primer tones down the red there and gives my eyes a more neutral look.

Too Faced Shadow Insurance Lemon Drop Eye Shadow Primer also performs well as a traditional primer. It holds the eyeshadow in place so it doesn’t crease, crack or scale. I’ve worn it for at least 8 hours, and it did the job.

With my dry eyelids, I wish it were a little more moisturizing, the way a face primer can be. But Too Faced Shadow Insurance Lemon Drop Eye Shadow Primer makes my eyelids feel smooth. Overall, I’m satisfied.

This is what Too Faced says about their product:

“What It Is:

Our world famous Shadow Insurance primer has been infused with a perfect lemon-yellow tone that neutralizes redness and ruddiness while ensuring eye shadow shades are clear and true every time.

More To Love:
  • Corrective Formula: Our lemon-yellow, formula creates the perfect neutral canvas for any eye shadow.
  • Long Wearing: Exclusive blend intensifies pigments and guarantees shadows won’t crease, smudge or fade.
  • Soothing: Our vitamin enriched formula glides over lids, smoothing sensitive skin while leaving behind a feather-light, cashmere finish.”
Gee, I have to agree that it did what it promised. It was soothing when I applied it (though I wish the soothing aspect lasted longer), and it definitely created a “feather-light cashmere finish”. Sometimes I put it on without eyeshadow and that’s what it does.

Other women recommend using it to cover dark circles under the eye, and I will give it a try for that as well.

Too Faced has other eye primers for those of you with normal eyelids:

  • “regular”: Eye Shadow Shadow Insurance Primer
  • Candlelight
  • Glitter Glue
  • Champagne

Each is $20 for 0.35 oz. I bought mine at Ulta. It’s also available at Sephora, department stores that carry Too Faced, and online at toofaced.com, Amazon, and other websites.
