Fun With PUR Cosmetics Dreamworks Trolls Shadow Palette

When I was in elementary school, Trolls were launched for the first time, and everyone brought them to school and displayed them on their desk before class. We had never seen anything like them. I was so happy when my parents bought me one. Mine had orange hair. Hmm, maybe that’s why I have orange hair today?

Trolls have gone through a number of iterations since my time. They have clothes, accessories, names, and personalities. And now they have a movie! Dreamworks introduced Trolls a few weeks ago. Here’s how iTunes describes it: “…a smart, funny and irreverent comedy about the search for happiness, and just how far some will go to get it. This hilarious film transports audiences to a colorful, wondrous world populated by the overly optimistic Trolls, who have a constant dance in their step and a song on their lips, and the comically pessimistic Bergens, who are only happy when they have Trolls in their stomachs. After the Bergens invade Troll Village, Poppy (Anna Kendrick), the happiest Troll ever born, and the overly-cautious curmudgeonly Branch (Jason Timberlake) set off on a journey to rescue her friends. Together, this mismatched duo embarks on a mission full of adventure and mishaps โ€“ trying to tolerate each other long enough to get the job done.” Actually, it sounds adorable. I could use some adorable these days. Here’s a video introducing the characters, and there are a million of them!

To build on the fun of the movie and get the word out, Dreamworks teamed up with PUR Cosmetics on a limited edition Trolls Shadow Palette. I received my own palette along with a Poppy Troll PEZ dispenser, a Branch Troll chocolate lollipop and a furry hot pink band. Could I be any happier? Probably not unless they threw in some glitter.

In a smaller than 5″x5″ sturdy silver cardboard case with a good size mirror, the Trolls palette contains 16 pans including neutrals and brights, as well as a mix of mattes, satins, shimmers, metallics, duo chromes, and even a couple of glitters.

A very impressive variety that will yield millions of different combinations and looks. The shades are often named after the characters and setting, and some of the shades are the hair color or body color of some of the trolls.

When I first looked at the palette, I thought it would be too bright and glittery for me, but I was wrong. Not at all. There is so much to like in this versatile palette. I own about a million neutral-ish palettes so the brights and duochromes are a welcome addition to my stash.

When I swatched the shades, they all seemed very powdery, kicking up dust on the brush and palette. I thought, Oh no. But when I use them to create a look, I have no fallout at all. They are buttery and easy to blend. Also, very long lasting over primer.

I always apply eye shadow over primer, so that’s how I swatched them. The pigmentation on the vast majority is terrific. There were a few that didn’t show up so well, but it seemed to be more that they were very close to my skin tone rather than not having enough color. In fact, I think the light ones would look great on someone with a darker skin tone than I have. Take a look. My favorite is row 3 with the fabulous duochromes.

Row 1:

  • Bridget: pale peach satin
  • Wisdom: camel matte
  • Karma: gold metallic
  • Fuzzy: lacking descriptors for this one: browned peach? It’s one of my faves.

PUR Cosmetics Trolls Shadow Palette is sold on the PUR Cosmetics website (where it’s out of stock right now) and at Kohl’s where it’s in stock now (and if you buy it online at Kohl’s, you can use Ebates for a 6% rebate)! I know a number of women who picked it up at Kohl’s after falling in love with the gorgeous shades.

What do you think about PUR’s Trolls Shadow Palette? Is it something you would pick up? I think it would make a great Valentine’s Day gift for a palette lover.

    1. Thank you, Shireen! I love this palette coz it’s so versatile. I can do neutral looks with it, but I wanted to show something with more color for the post. As you can tell, I love orange!

  1. The colors you picked look great on you. It’s definitely a pretty palette and how cool that you received the Pez dispenser and other items!

    1. Thank you, Laura! This palette is the cutest thing, and the duochromes are particularly stunning. I love it. I had always wanted a Pez dispenser when I was a kid, but we didn’t have a lot of money and my mother thought it was a waste so I never had one. So happy to have a Pez dispenser at this late date!

  2. I love the look of this palette! It’s a bit more adult than the other troll collections I’ve seen out there. Great look!

    1. Thank you! I agree with you. Although the palette is definitely playful and the shades would appeal to a younger audience, the versatility is there. I can create a neutral look with it or go wild with color.

    1. Ria, I thought it might be too many brights for me but I’m having so much fun with it! PUR Cosmetics makes wonderful mostly mineral makeup, cruelty free, perfect. Worth a look!

  3. OMG, who doesn’t love trolls back in the day? their brightly colored hair make up for the scary grimaces, haha! But seriously, I like the versatility of this palette. It has enough neutrals for everyday wear and some pop of color, just because!

    1. I love that idea, Aleya: woods trolls palette! I can use the bolder shades in the outer V or as liner. I must say, however, that I wasn’t used to seeing myself with that much color. I was surprised when Jeff emailed me after reading my post to tell me how much he liked the orange eye makeup – I don’t think he’s ever even noticed my eye makeup before!

    1. Trolls are such cuties! And thanks for the kudos on my earrings! I got them in a great boutique in Rockport MA. These are orange and green, and I have a matching necklace. I also have the earrings in powder blue and pink. They are so lightweight and super-affordable, a real find!

    1. I’m so glad that your family got to see the Trolls movie. The reviews were so good, and it looks so cute! I think they did a great job with this palette
