Gimme all the hydration for my skin!

I saw Vichy Mineral 89 Daily Skin Booster on a number of bloggers’ sites, and what first attracted me was the bottle. The thick glass ombre bottle looks like water, and the upside down V shape is so unique and modern. I couldn’t pass it by.

Vichy Mineral 89 is positioned as a hyaluronic acid moisturizer. Perhaps for young skin it is. But for me, it isn’t hydrating enough on its own. Instead, I use it as an essence, a first layer that soaks into my skin and allows me to use other hydrating and anti-aging layers over it. I was on the hunt for a new hydrating essence to use after spraying my face with toner, and here is quite a unique one.

Vichy Mineral 89 is a combination of 89% Vichy Mineralizing Thermal Water with 15 minerals and sodium hyaluronate, the form of hyaluronic acid that is able to penetrate the skin. What it feels like is “heavy water”. It’s clear but thick. One pump is enough to press into my face and neck. It feels like an instant drink for my skin.

The formula fortifies, hydrates and protects skin from pollution.  The product information also says that it protects against cold weather. In that case, I should apply it all over to protect me from the coming New England winter, lol!

I love this unique hydrator, and I recommend it. The attractive bottle contains 1.69 fl. oz./50 ml, and it’s priced at $29.50. I bought my bottle at CVS with a 30% off coupon. Well worth it even at full price. It’s also available on the Vichy website, at Ulta Beauty, Target, Lovelyskin.com, and other retailers.

    1. I definitely use it as an essence, but oddly enough, on the Vichy USA website, they refer to it as a “moisturizer” rather than as an essence that’s “moisturizing”. It’s clearly an essence. I really like it a lot. I sometimes use it in conjunction with a Korean product with a similar consistency that has more HA in it.

    1. Ah, than that settles it, Renu. That’s why, in addition to the product itself, that I thought it was an essence and not a moisturizer. They must be using the word “moisturizer” more as a verb than a noun on the website!

  1. So glad that I am not the only one that doesn’t use this as a standalone moisturizer. I do have several other Vichy creams and an oil that use to layer the product with.

    1. Oh, I forgot that, Marcia! I don’t have the bottle with me at Jeff’s so I’ll have to check for sure. But no fragrance made an impression on me at all so I’m guessing it doesn’t have a perceptible scent – but I’ll check and confirm soon.
