Wow, nothing like writing about a skincare product that’s so popular that it’s often out of stock, like it is right now!

But Paula’s Choice is usually good about quick restocking. In the meantime, let me tell you about Paula’s Choice Clinical Ceramide-Enriched Firming Moisturizer that I’ve been using for the past month. And more good news is that I’ve got an extra bottle to give away!

I’ve written about ceramides a number of times. In fact, I am still taking NeoCell Ceramide supplements (reviewed here). As we age, another thing that diminishes is our ability to make ceramides. Gee, thanks. Ceramides help skin stay healthy and strong. They are lipids (fats) that increase the skin’s moisture level and elasticity by strengthening the skin’s moisture barrier so skin stays better hydrated. Ceramides applied topically have been shown in clinical studies to have beneficial effects on skin. Load me up!

What’s particularly great about Paula’s Choice Clinical Ceramide-Enriched Firming Moisturizer is that in addition to the five ceramides in the formula, the product also contains retinol and vitamin C! Oh, I love me a good multitasker! Paula’s Choice calls this trio “Collagen Support Complex”. I call it handy, since I don’t need to use 3 separate serums.  The product helps make skin look firmer, feel more supple and smoother, look brighter, and soften the look of wrinkles. I use Ceramide-Enriched Firming Moisturizer all over my face and along my jawline. I am bound and determined to try to prevent or at least stave off the jowls that my grandmother who I look like had.

Paula’s Choice Ceramide-Enriched Firming Moisturizer is a lightweight, non-greasy, beige cream. The pump doses it for you. However, I find that I need two pumps to cover my whole face. Paula’s Choice calls this product that, to me, seems more like a serum, a “moisturizer”. In fact, the instructions on the package and on the website tell you to apply it as the last step in your routine at night, and just before sunscreen during the day. At night, I might use a serum, then press on a few drops of Amalie REWIND or CALM Oil for the extra feeling of hydration and nourishment, and finish with Paula’s Choice Ceramide-Enriched Firming Moisturizer. Just my routine for my super dry skin, you may have your own.

One thing I almost forgot to mention, Ceramide-Enriched Firming Moisturizer has a bit of a funky scent. To me, it smells like Ferulic Acid, though I don’t see that specific ingredient in the list below. It is an herbal scent that I associate with that vitamin C-type ingredient. At any rate, it smells for about two seconds after I pump it and apply it, and then it instantly disappears. But just thought I’d let you know.

Paula’s Choice Ceramide-Enriched Firming Moisturizer contains 50 ml/1.7 fl. oz. Because you use so little of this key ingredient-packed moisturizer, it will last a loooooong time which is good because it’s priced at $58. You can learn more and buy it on the Paula’s Choice website or at Dermstore.com.

Here are the product’s ingredients. I love that one form of vitamin C is the second ingredient. And I love that Paula’s Choice lets us know what each ingredient does. Gee, I just noticed that it contains two pH adjusters, also a good thing so it doesn’t throw skin’s optimal pH out of whack.

Ingredients: Water (Aqua), Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate (vitamin C/antioxidant), Cetyl Alcohol (texture enhancer, Ascorbyl Glucoside (vitamin C/antioxidant), Neopentyl Glycol Diheptanoate (texture enhancer), Potassium Cetyl Phosphate (emulsifier), Glyceryl Stearate (emollient), PEG-100 Stearate (texture enhancer), Glycerin (skin-replenishing), PEG-12 Glyceryl Dimyristate (hydration), Bis-Diglyceryl Polyacyladipate-2 (emollient), Dimethicone (emollient), Glyceryl Ascorbate, Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate (vitamin C/antioxidants), Retinol (vitamin A/skin-restoring), Ceramide NP, Ceramide NS, Ceramide AP, Ceramide EOP, Ceramide EOS, Cholesterol, Caprooyl Phytosphingosine, Caprooyl Sphingosine (skin-replenishing), Squalane (emollient), Punica Granatum Fruit Extract (pomegranate/antioxidant), Pongamia Glabra Seed Oil (non-fragrant plant oil/antioxidant), Glycyrrhiza Glabra (Licorice) Root Extract (skin-soothing), Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Extract (antioxidant), Tocopheryl Acetate (vitamin E/antioxidant), Carnosine (skin-restoring), Panthenol (hydration), Sodium PCA (skin-replenishing), Butylene Glycol (hydration), Sodium Citrate (pH adjuster), Ceteareth-25 (texture enhancer), Polysorbate 20 (emulsifier), Ethylhexyl Stearate (emollient), Sodium Hydroxide (pH adjuster), Trideceth-6 (emulsifier), Propyl Gallate (antioxidant),Ammonium Acryloyldimethyltaurate/VP Copolymer, Sodium Polyacrylate (film-forming agents), Behenic Acid (texture enhancer), Disodium EDTA (chelating agent), Phenoxyethanol, Caprylyl Glycol, Chlorphenesin (preservatives).

  3. I’m always on the hunt for an effective moisturizer to help counter the drying and loss of suppleness that accompanies aging. Maybe this is the one!

  4. I’m so excited about this giveaway! I’ve been wanting to try a Paula’s Choice product for a long time now but haven’t gotten around to it; I love the ingredients in this product; most of all, I’m in the market for a winter-weight moisturizer–I’ve tried a couple lately that just don’t cut it, and this sounds perfect. Yay!

    1. Paula’s Choice skincare really is worth trying, Kim. They have so many terrific skincare products at decent prices. I don’t know that I’d call this serum/moisturizer “winter-weight”, but because of the ceramides, retinol and vitamin C it’s great to use at any time of year! Good luck!

  5. I adore her products and honest have great results using them. This reminds me of a Roger & Gallet lotion too, too light to be used as a moisturizer even though it’s suggested to be used as last step. I always top use a facial oil and overnight on top and rest it as a serum and it works well. I actually have a Paula’s Choice 8% Glycolic Acid moisturizer to test too but I haven’t got to it.

  6. I love Paula’s choice products everything I have used has been amazing!! Your skin look beautiful!! Thank you for the giveaway!!😊

  7. I am a big fan of Paula’s Choice products and their mission statement. I also appreciate that the products are manufactured in Seattle, Washington. I would really like to try their Clinical Ceramide-Enriched Firming Moisturizer. Sounds like it is perfect for my skin issues.

  8. I’m a big fan of PC products. I’ve been using them for years. I have been wanting to buy this new moisturizer but it’s been out of stock on her website. It sounds like it would be a perfect moisturizer for me in the summer, so I can skip some of my serums. I really hope they get it back in stock in the next week or so. I really want to try it!

    1. I hope it comes back in stock soon, Diana, but in the meantime, I’m glad you entered the giveaway. I agree that this is perfect for warm weather as a serum/moisturizer in one! Good luck!

  9. I would like to win this because I would like to check out this brand. Also I have read great things about ceramide for the skin.

  16. I too have very dry skin and would love to get my hands on this new PC moisturizer! I have had a difficult time trying to keep my skin from drying out this winter. As spring approaches (I hope), I really would like to reduce the oils I use on my face, and try the ceramide filled new moisturizer. Also, who doesn’t want firmer looking skin? Thank-you for the opportunity.

    1. I think that for spring this “moisturizer” that seems more like a serum would be enough on its own, Helene. Now I tend to wear a few drops of facial oil along with it. But the combo of three anti-aging ingredients can’t be beat. Thanks for entering the giveaway, and good luck!

    1. Jayme, this is more of an anti-aging serum rather than an all-purpose moisturizer. It contains ceramides, retinol and vitamin C. I’m don’t know if this would be right for you in all honesty.

  23. I am showing signs of aging, and my skin isn’t as tight as it used to be. I would love to try this product to see if it helps.

  28. I can never get enough moisturizer, and I’ve heard great things about this one. I’m just starting to explore skincare seriously and this has been on my list of products I want to try.

    1. As you know, skincare is the most important next to having a healthy diet, drinking enough water and getting enough sleep, and of course, wearing sunscreen. Paula’s Choice Ceramide-Enriched Firming Moisturizer really is quite amazing because of the 3 anti-aging ingredients: ceramides, retinol and vitamin C. I know you’d love it, Ruth. Thanks you for entering the giveaway, and good luck!

      1. I am learning so much from your blog! I’m older but a beauty newbie, focused mostly on skin since I sadly didn’t take care earlier. You have so much insight that I really enjoy your advice and suggestions. Keep up the great work!! 🙂

        1. Thank you so much, Ruth xo That makes me feel so good! I learned quite a bit about skincare products because I have been a market researcher and focus group moderator for a long time. I worked for Pond’s, Dove, L’Oreal, among others. Once I became a blogger, I had opportunities to try a lot more products and brands of skincare. It’s been fun learning all this, and trying out so many products. Paula’s Choice skincare seldom disappoints. Nevertheless, there are still really good skincare products that you can buy in the drugstore, Target, Walmart etc. We’re pretty lucky these days!

          1. You have an impressive background, and you must know so much about all this having been in the industry so long. I will continue to enjoy your blog, and hope I can pick up your knowledge and apply it to developing my own routine! Thanks!

          2. Thanks again, Ruth! I don’t know everything, by any means, but if you have any questions, please feel free to ask, and I’ll do my best to answer 🙂

          3. Given your vast experience, what is your suggestion on the basics and order of applying skincare products? I am probably trying too much too fast, in the wrong order! Do you have any advice on a sensible daily routine, both for morning and evening? Thanks so much!!!

          4. Usually, you start with the lightest weight product and build up to the heaviest, Ruth. I try to have enough patience to let each layer dry down before applying the next. If I were putting together a skincare routine that I was buying myself, I would select just a few products: a serum with retinol, a daytime moisturizer with SPF, an anti-aging cream for nighttime, and an eye cream…plus a good cleanser. That’s a good, simple routine IMO. If I were splurging, I would consider a toner before I apply my serum because it preps the skin for products to come (I’m going to review NIP+FAB Glycolic Pads soon). I also use an essence before my serum for extra hydration because my skin is so dry. I bought the Korean skincare essence, IUNIK Vitamin Hyaluronic Acid Hydrating Toner, online back in October (I reviewed it a couple of months ago). It cost $16 and it’s huge. What got my attention is that it is 45% hyaluronic acid, and I haven’t found anything else that has that much HA in it. I should do a post about this topic soon. Thank you, Ruth, for asking about it!

          5. Thanks, that is so helpful. I will try to remember the correct order and use of different products. Your suggestion is really hugely useful! Thanks!!!

          6. You’re welcome, Ruth! And I’m sure you will remember if you keep it to a manageable number of products: cleanser, serum, moisturizer, eye cream. Don’t forget to use your moisturizer/moisturizer with sunscreen on your neck too 🙂

          7. Thanks, and that raises another question. I have been good about using sunscreen lately (should have started sooner!), but notice that some make me have a slight rash on my neck while others don’t. Do you know if there are some ingredients that are especially allergenic in sunscreens? I haven’t found a pattern to it, so maybe it’s just random days. But I used three recently and one made me react and the other two were fine. Thanks again…. I will try to limit my questions! 🙂

          8. No problem at all, Ruth! I know that people are more likely to be allergic to or more specifically develop contact dermatitis from using chemical sunscreen ingredients rather than to mineral sunscreens. Benzophenones like oxybenzone, Eusolex 4360, methanone, Uvinal M40, diphenylketone and any other chemical name ending with “-benzophenone” are usually the culprit. Perhaps try switching to a physical sunscreen with titanium dioxide, zinc oxide etc. You can buy a powder with mineral sunscreen for your face (though I think the powder is better for touchups than full coverage) or a cream.

          9. Thanks, I will keep an eye out for those ingredients. It’s good to know how to search for culprits. I’ll also look into powders, I don’t remember seeing a sunscreen powder, maybe it could be combined with a cream.

          10. Usually a sunscreen powder comes in a tube with a built-in brush. I reviewed two of them in the past: Colorescience Brush-On Sunscreen and Brush On Block. Mineral Fusion, Peter Thomas Roth and SuperGoop! also make them. They’re kind of pricey, but they are good to use over foundation because they don’t ruin your makeup like a cream can. Brush On sunscreen is a nice extra. If I were only buying one thing, I’d get a regular physical sunscreen in cream or gel form like Eau Thermale Avène Mineral Ultra-Light Hydrating Sunscreen Lotion SPF 50+ (at CVS), Neutrogena Sensitive Skin Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 60+ that you can wear on top of your moisturizer, and this one that I love that I buy at Ulta with a coupon: Coola Face SPF 30 Mineral Sunscreen Cucumber Matte Finish – just a few suggestions

  29. I’m fast approaching my forties, and my skincare commitment gets stronger all the time! I’ve been wanting to try Paula’s Choice for a while now, because I think my skin would really like it.

    1. I think Paula’s Choice is one of the best skincare brands there is. There is literally something for every skin type and issue. This serum/moisturizer is one of their most interesting IMHO because of the 3 anti-aging ingredients. Glad you entered the giveaway. Good luck!

    1. This Paula’s Choice product is so cool coz it’s got ceramides, retinol and vitamin C. Thanks for entering, Tabitha, and good luck!

  30. I have a lot of good things about Paula’s Choice products but have not got any yet. What really caught my eye was “Enriched Firming Moisturizer” at 67 I need some firming and lot of moisturizer. 🙂

    1. Because it has retinol, ceramides and vitamin C in one formula, this is one to try from Paula’s Choice, Gloria. I’m glad you entered the giveaway! Good luck 🙂

  31. I haven’t tried Paula’s Choice but I know people rave about it. I’m really into skincare that’s focused on anti-aging. I’d love to see if this will minimize my crow’s feet and laugh lines.

    1. Paula’s Choice really is an awesome skincare brand, Nancy. This particular product is so wonderful because it contains the big 3: ceramides, retinol and vitamin C. Thanks for entering the giveaway, and good luck in the drawing!

  32. I would really like to try this, because it contains Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Extract and vitamin C that I would like to have for my skin.

    1. Good question, Ruth! Dermatologists recommend wearing sunscreen on exposed skin, especially your face, all year round. If you live in a snowy place like I do, the white snow reflects the sun onto everything including people. Also, even when you’re in your house or office or traveling on a plane, sun comes in through the windows and can damage your skin. Because it’s cold here, I don’t wear sunscreen on my body till the weather warms up and I return to short sleeves and shorts. I wish, however, I had started using sunscreen on my hands years ago because I have a lot of sun damage on them that really makes me look old.
