I have been dying to try at least some of the new Pixi Skintreats Rose products. And a lovely blogger friend, K., was so generous to send me a box of Pixi, jam-packed with rose skincare products. Thank you, thank you, K xoxo

Usually, I will test skincare products for a month, but since the rose line is fairly new to the shelves, I thought I’d give you my initial impressions of 4 of the products based on my skin type: winter dry, mature skin.

4 Pixi Skintreats rose products, neversaydiebeauty.com

Rose Tonic Rose & Elderflower Nourishing Toner

Pixi Skintreats Rose Tonic, neversaydiebeauty.com

The Rose Tonic Rose & Elderflower Nourishing Toner was the product I was most eager to try. It has a very soft, almost faint, scent of roses. It looks like the toner is pink, but it isn’t. The plastic bottle is pink.

Formulated with rose hydrosol, Pixi Rose Tonic is very gentle, and I find it’s a great post-cleansing follow-up to remove the last vestiges of makeup. It doesn’t tighten, it tones, balances pH (yay!), calms, rehydrates, and refreshes. It is also supposed to minimize redness, but I don’t really have any redness.

For my dry skin, I like this toner a lot. Although I don’t really find it hydrating (my skin is like the desert these days), but I love that this balances the pH, so even if I don’t use a pH balanced cleanser (I usually do), this will balance my skin.

Pixi Skintreats Rose Tonic is a keeper for me. I received both the 3.4 fl. oz./100 ml size that’s priced at $15, and a small 0.5 fl. oz./15 ml travel size. It also comes in a larger 250 ml size for $29.

Ingredients: Water/Aqua/Eau, Rosa Damascena Flower Water, Propanediol, Glycerin, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Sodium PCA, Peg-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Triethyl Citrate, Rose Extract, Phenoxyethanol, Rosa Canina Extract, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Sambucus Nigra Flower (Elder Flower) Extract, Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Extract, Sodium Hyaluronate, Betaine, Sodium Citrate, Montmorillonite, Citric Acid, Disodium EDTA, Ethylhexylglycerin, Potassium Sorbate, Sodium Benzoate

Rose Oil Blend

Pixi Skintreats Rose Oil Blend, neversaydiebeauty.com

Pixi Skintreats Rose Oil Blend was the other product in the line that I was eager to try. It comes in a green painted glass dropper bottle. The oil is clear and has a very light rose scent. The oil is lightweight, and sinks into my skin quickly. In fact, it seems to be lighter weight than some of the other oils I am using. I like it a lot, but I may put it aside for the warmer weather. (Tonight, the temperature is going down to 9 degrees.)

It is a botanical blend of sweet almond oil, rosehip, jojoba, pomegranate seed, and rose geranium oils. They nourish the skin without being greasy. My skin feels velvety after using it.

The bottle, priced at $24, contains 1 fl. oz./30 ml.

Ingredients: Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil, Rosa Canina Fruit Oil, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Tocopherol, Pelargonium Graveolens Flower Oil, Rosa Damascena Flower Oil, Punica Granatum Seed Oil, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Peel Oil.

Rose Caviar Essence

I am all about essences these days. I love using an essence, a water-like serum, as a first step in a multistep skincare regimen.

I didn’t know that there was an essence in the Pixi Skintreats Rose line, so this was a nice surprise. Rose Caviar Essence is a lightweight gel that has something (the “caviar”? crushed rose petals?) suspended in the gel. It’s called an Encapsulated Moisture Serum. The gel melts on contact with my skin – I apply it to my face, neck and at night to my décolletage, and it dries to a slightly sticky feeling. I usually put another serum or a moisturizer on top of the essence, and it doesn’t interfere with subsequent layers.

Pixi describes the Rose Caviar Essence as follows: “Concentrated flower oils suspended in a weightless serum-essence melt onto skin. Delivers fresh botanicals to nourish and hydrate, restoring skin’s brightness for immediate and long term radiance.”

I find Rose Caviar Essence to be lightly hydrating. To date, I haven’t yet seen a brightening effect, but I have only been using it for a couple of weeks.

It too has a light rose scent that lingers for a little bit which I find delightful.

The plastic tube that Rose Caviar Essence comes in contains 1.52 fl. oz./45 ml and is priced at $24.

Ingredients: Water/Aqua/Eau, Glycerin, Macadamia Ternifolia Seed Oil, Citrus Aurantium Bergamia (Bergamot) Peel Oil, Cananga Odorata Flower Oil, Cymbopogon Martini Oil, Pelargonium Graveolens Oil, Tocopheryl Acetate, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Simmondsia Chinenesis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Oil, Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil, Rosa Damascena Flower Oil, Glycine Soja (Soybean) Oil, Morus Alba Bark Extract, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract, Caulerpa Lentillifera Extract, Bixa Orellana Seed Oil, Tocopherol, Adenosine, Illicium Verum (Anise) Fruit Extract, Carbomer, Caprylyl Glycol, Butylene Glycol, Hydrogenated Soybean Oil, Tromethamine, Chlorphenesin,1,2-Hexanediol, Iron Oxide (CI 77491).

Rose Flash Balm

tube of Pixi Skintreats Rose Flash Balm, neversaydiebeauty.com

Rose Flash Balm is rich, white balm. It is an unusual, multitasking product. Actually, it was a product that I needed to read about first because I was using it wrong. I thought it was a super-moisturizer. Not so. Rose Flash Balm can be used as a mask where you apply a relatively thick layer and leave it on the skin for about 5 minutes for a quick, intense moisturization. Or a thin layer can be applied as a primer under foundation.

When I tried using it at night as a moisturizer, I woke up to sort of dry skin. So I will try it from now on as a moisturizing mask. I don’t think that it would suit my very dry skin as a primer. It dries matte and I like a more hydrating, dewier canvas.

Rose Flash Balm comes in a plastic tube like the Rose Caviar Essence but in two sizes: 1.52 fl. oz./45 ml for $24 or a $6 travel size.

Ingredients: Water/Aqua/Eau, Rosa Centifolia Flower Water, Propylene Glycol, Octyldodecanol, Tapioca Starch, Polysorbate 60, Sorbitan Stearate, Carbomer, Phenoxyethanol, Triethyl Citrate, Aminomethyl Propanol, Sucrose Cocoate, Glycerin, Olea Europaea (Olive) Leaf Extract, Hamamelis Virginiana (Witch Hazel) Extract, Rose Extract, Bisabolol, Ethylhexylglyercin, Polymethylsilsesquioxane, Disodium EDTA, Sodium Citrate, Red 40 (CI 16035)

MatteLast Liquid Lip in shade Evening Rose

Pixi MatteLast Liquid Lip, shade Evening Rose, neversaydiebeauty.com

The liquid lipstick was a surprise addition to my box of goodies from K. I wasn’t expecting any makeup!

Now you probably know that my lips don’t usually get along with liquid lipstick, so I was doubtful about whether MatteLast Liquid Lip would work for me.

MatteLast Liquid Lip has a very creamy formula that starts out as a creamy gloss, and after a few minutes, it dries down to a matte finish. The formula has rosehip oil, so no wonder it feels creamy and non-drying.

It has an unusual heart-shaped, angled applicator that bends a bit and is very easy to use to apply MatteLast. I like it.

Very surprising to me, the formula is not drying even though it does dry down. I could actually wear this lipstick.

The shade Evening Rose is a bit browner than I might choose for myself even though it looks mauve in the tube. But it would be a nice autumn shade. I love the initial creamy, glossy look as in the photo below.

But sadly, I don’t find it to be a flattering look on my lips once it dries down. I had thought maybe this liquid lipstick would turn out to be a creamy almost gloss-like Burt’s Bees Liquid Lipstick (reviewed here), but it isn’t. Nevertheless, I am glad I tried it to see what it’s like. If you do like a matte finish lipstick but have trouble with those that can be drying, you should try this formula. It is indeed different, and IMHO it is better. I just don’t like the look of liquid mattes on my lips.

Another surprise, however, that could be a negative, is that because it’s more comfortable, it doesn’t last on the lips as long. If I eat while wearing MatteLast, it does not last. Also, the color comes off on the cup if I drink something. So the comfort comes at a price!

Pixi by Petra MatteLast Liquid Lip comes in 14 shades and is priced at $14 for 6.9 g/0.24 oz.

Ingredients: Isododecane, Trimethylsiloxysilicate, Cyclopentasiloxane, Dimethicone, Kaolin, Flavor (Aroma), Hydrogenated Polyisobutene, Synthetic Beeswax, Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate, Phenoxyethanol, Caprylyl Glycol, Hexylene Glycol, Tocopheryl Acetate, Rosa Rubigenosa Seed Oil. [+/- D&C Red 30 Aluminum Lake (CI 73360), Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Iron Oxides (CI 77499, CI 77492, CI 77491), Red 6 Lake (CI 15850), Red 7 Lake (CI 15850), F&DC Yellow 5 (CI 19140), D&C Red 28 Aluminum Lake (CI 45410), Mica (CI 77019)].

Other Thoughts and Info about the Pixi Skintreats Rose Product Line

Pixi rose skincare product line, neversaydiebeauty.com

The Rose Skincare Line from Pixi has a number of other products in it including Rose Makup Fixing Mist that I will give away since I don’t use that type of product. It also has a cleanser, Rose Ceramide Cream that sounds divine, and Rose Mist that sounds perfect for summer. After trying these 5 products, I think I will buy the Rose Cleanser, Ceramide Cream and Mist at some point. I love the light rose scent, and the products – after 2 weeks of use – are quite lovely. My faves so far are the Rose Tonic and the Rose Oil Blend. The only one that I don’t think suits me is the Rose Flash Balm, but I need to try it as a hydrating mask and see if I like it better.

Pixi is a cruelty-free brand.

Have you tried any of the products in the Pixi Rose skincare line yet? What did you think? Which products are your faves?

  1. Sounds delightful! I love anything rose scented. I can smell rose 🌹 as I read your review. I might have to give it a try!

    1. Thanks for reading my post and taking the time to comment, Lois! Pixi is a good brand – natural & CF – and it’s sold at Target! I loved your pix from your trip ♥️

  2. These sound so nice I might actually have to venture into Target again. They closed the store I usually shopped in, and their other locations here just aren’t really on my way to or from anywhere. :/
Or maybe I’ll just buy it online. Yep that sounds better. lol

    1. Oh no, I’m sorry there’s no Target near you anymore! This rose line is really nice. I really like the Rose Oil Blend and the Rose Tonic is nice, though there are lots of rose toners in the world. I am very curious about the Rose Ceramide Cream and the Rose Cleanser. I may buy them though I am swimming in skincare products. (Do you use makeup fixing spray?)

      1. I do sometimes, moreso in summer because it just feels a little overkill in winter unless I’m going to an event. When it’s 95 degrees in the shade though, I’m very happy it exists.
I’m curious about the cleanser too. I have a sample of Sephora brand rose cleanser that I haven’t cracked open yet, but I think I might use it next, after I clean out the dregs in my Andalou apricot milky cleanser. I’ve been in a rose mood.

        1. LMK how you like the Sephora rose cleanser when you get to it. I will save the Pixi Rose Makeup Fixing Spray to send to you. Glad you’re not in a hurry to use it 😉

          1. LOL! Thanks! And I’ll keep you updated on the cleanser front. The Pixi cleanser has about landed in my online cart too. That and a big tub of CeraVe and I should hit the free ship threshold. 😛

  3. I don’t find the Rose Flash Balm to be very hydrating as a moisturizer either. I tend to use it as a “boost” product. I put it on after the essence and before the moisturizer to add a bit more moisturizer. Between the Essence, the Balm, the Rose Ceramide Moisturizer, and the Murad Night Fix Enzyme Treatment at night by skin wakes up in the morning going “moisture, what is this even??” lol

    1. Wow, you like to pile on the skincare just like me! I’m going to try the Rose Flash Balm as a 5 minute hydrating mask and see if I like that. I don’t like the feeling of it enough to want to wear it under moisturizer. I am curious about the Rose Ceramide Cream – do you think it’s worth it?

      1. It is worth it! I’m hoping they’ll put a mini of it up on their site so more people will want to try it. I LOVE the Origins GinZing Moisturizer and I actually scrounged up the money to buy a second one of those after Travis got out of the hospital because I was out but I hadn’t got this set yet. I, seriously, haven’t gone back to the Origins since I started using the Rose Ceramide Cream as a moisturizer!

        1. Thank you, Cassie, for letting me know that you love the Pixi Rose Ceramide Creamand that you think it’s definitely worth buying. I am dying to try it

    1. Pixi MatteLast Liquid Lip Evening Rose looked good on me till it dried down, then not so much. Even though it’s comfortable to wear, liquid mattes just don’t look good on my lips, boo hoo

  4. She’s a great friend. I like Pixi’s rose line too, especially the toner. The liquid lipstick is actually more forgiving than Kat Von D which is super drying.

  5. I have never tried this brand. The products sound lovely and the ingredients seem really interesting. I see you have a Rose Tonic (which you used) and a Glow Tonic — I wonder how they differ?

    1. Paula, the Glow Tonic is Pixi’s original iconic toner that has glycolic acid in the formula. I am eager to try it, but I have so many toners open now and Glow Tonic is not part of the Rose product line, so I am waiting a bit to open it. The Rose Tonic has rose hydrosol in the formula and it has a light rose scent. It also has hydrating ingredients and it is gentle. I hope this explanation helps distinguish between the two toners!

  6. Using of this brand in skincare routine is best option. I have used its toner and it provides an even texture to the skin. Thanks for sharing.

    1. Do you mean the Pixi Glow Tonic or the Rose Tonic, Lisa? The Rose Tonic is so lovely and gentle. I have tried the Glow Tonic yet, but I am eager to try it.
