Derma E Ultra Hydrating Alkaline Cloud Cleanser

I have really been enjoying the aptly named Derma E Ultra Hydrating Alkaline Cloud Cleanser. It’s a very gentle, foaming cleanser that looks and feels as fluffy as a cloud!

Derma E Ultra Hydrating Alkaline Cloud Cleanser

A multitasker, it cleans well, removes makeup, and hydrates skin at the same time. It’s so delightful to use!

Its hydrating ingredients are hyaluronic acid and the adaptogen Snow Mushroom, a gelatinous and humectant mushroom that has been used for centuries in Chinese and Ayurvedic skincare formulations. Though Snow Mushroom is not as strong a humectant as HA, its smaller particles more easily penetrate the skin and provides more moisture than the mighty HA.

One thing I find a little confusing is that the product flags the fact that it’s an “alkaline” cleanser. The skin’s acid mantle is, well, acidic, usually around pH 4.5-5.5. Using too strong an alkaline cleanser like regular soap, for instance, can dry out the skin. There was no information about this on the Derma E website, so I am guessing that the cleanser that has no sulfate is nowhere near as alkaline as soap. And though I haven’t studied chemistry since high school, I am assuming that the hydrating formula prevents the skin from feeling dry (and I can attest to that).

This featherweight cleanser can be used morning and night. Apply to damp skin and lather up the foam. One pump is enough for my entire face. It doesn’t sting my usually sensitive eyes. Rinse with cool water.

I think this is an especially perfect facial cleanser for the warm weather.

The foaming pump bottle contains 5.3 fl. oz. and is priced at $13.95. I believe it is a relatively new product, but now it’s available at Ulta and Target as well as on the Derma E website where there’s a Spring Tier Sale with a larger percent off the more you spend: 10% off $20+, 15% off $40+, etc. with the code SPRING30.

So far, it was reviewed by 36 people on the Derma E website, and it’s rated 4.9 out of 5. I completely understand why. It is a terrific cleanser.

Derma E Ultra Hydrating Alkaline Cloud Cleanser is vegan, GMO-free, cruelty-free, and free of parabens, sulfates, petrolatum, mineral oils, phthalates, sodium lauryl sulfates.

  1. This sounds like an amazing product. Now that the world is reopening I will probably need to get something like this since I will be wearing makeup more.

  2. Funny thing, the reason everyone likes this cleanser is the same reason why I don’t LOL! Skincare is so YMMV! I personally avoid alkaline cleansers and prefer mine to be slightly acidic. I tested the pH of this one and it was almost 9 which is too high for my personal preference.

    1. Because Derma E makes a point of pointing out that it is slightly alkaline, I wondered why. I tried contacting the PR woman who sent me that product and asking whether their R&D could tell me why they made an alkaline cleanser, but I was unable to get an answer. Fortunately, using it once a day on my face hasn’t been a problem that I’m aware of at least.

  3. It’s better to keep the pH consistent with your skin, so an alkaline cleanser not the ideal. I also find washing and rinsing all the “good stuff” away a waste of money and don’t understand why companies put them in a cleanser.

  4. I saw this product online. and it’s actually on sale but when I saw the EO I thought dang it would’ve been perfect without the fragrant oils. but i will still try this product thanks for the recommendation

    1. Derma E only uses natural scents typically from oils in their products. I just took a look at the ingredient list for Derma E’s Skin Brightener, and that one doesn’t appear to have any essential oils. I know a lot of people are allergic to EOs.
