My Favorite Concealer, trestique, with a Surprise

trestique Refillable Concealer & Sponge

Finally, I managed to score what I thought was my perfect concealer match, trestique Refillable Concealer & Sponge.

Ages ago, I got a travel size concealer crayon from Ipsy. The color, Porcelain, was a completely perfect match. I kept it in my purse makeup bag, and it took me a couple of years to use it up since I mostly used it after my hair appointment or if I needed an on the go touchup. I finished it this spring. I tried to order a full size concealer from the trestique website, but they were out of Porcelain, the shade that is often the lightest available shade name for many makeup brands. I wasn’t the only one trying to order that shade because many women had left comments asking about when it would be restocked. trestique told us all to sign up in order to be notified when it was back in stock. I did, but no notification ever came.

Earlier this autumn, out of curiosity, I decided to visit the website to see if my concealer shade was available. To be honest, I couldn’t remember which shade was the shade that had suited me so well, and I had recycled the travel size tube so I couldn’t check the name. But I thought it was the lightest shade, whatever it was called. On my computer screen, the shades are difficult to discern. Usually, shades are shown from lightest to deepest. I assumed trestique followed the same method. The shade at the “lightest” end, Bone, was in stock. Yay, I thought, though I was a little ticked off that I never received notification from trestique. Oh well.

I decided to get along without it for a few more months in the hope of getting it at a discount during the pre-holiday sale. Bingo. The pre-Black Friday sale at trestique was 25% off, and that was fine with me. Score!

My new full-size trestique concealer arrived a few days ago. Again because I didn’t have the shade name, I eyeballed the color in the new tube, and I assumed it was the same.

In fact, I wore it a few times, and it seemed pretty much like the perfect match that I remembered. Here’s a swatch on my forearm:

Looks like a pretty good match on my arm, doesn’t it?

Yesterday before Jeff and I went out, I put on my foundation and I reached for my new concealer. It actually seemed a little lighter than I remembered, but I thought it was fine. Blending it in with the sponge end, it looked like a good match.

Tonight as I started to write this review, I went on the trestique website to verify a few facts. Wouldn’t you know, I noticed that one of the concealer shades, Porcelain, was out of stock. That made me curious because Bone, the shade I just received, appeared lighter than Porcelain, and Bone was indeed at the “lightest” end of the shades. Now I know why the Bone concealer on my face seemed just a tad too light…because it is. My bad! My mistake!

I will keep my eyes open and also wait to hear from trestique when Porcelain comes back in stock. If it does return someday, I’ll spring for the correct shade whether there’s a sale or not! trestique Refillable Concealer & Sponges are regularly priced at $18.

trestique specializes in refillable makeup primarily in crayon/stick form. My concealer has the concealer at one end and a blending sponge at the other end. The end with the concealer can be replaced in the rest of the tube so there’s less waste. When Porcelain comes back, I’ll buy the refill and save a couple of bucks that way.

trestique Refillable Makeup

Over the years, I have received several trestique makeup products from Ipsy – red lip crayon, highlighter, and an eye crayon – and they’re all very nice and especially handy for travel and my purse makeup bag. Plus they’re cruelty-free and vegan.

If you become a trestique makeup fan, you can put together a kit with the shades that suit you. Right now on Black Friday week/weekend, the kits are 40% off so they’re a bargain.

So if you’ve never tried trestique and you are intrigued by an easier way to decrease the amount of waste in the world by using refillable and recyclable makeup, check out trestique’s website. In the meantime, here’s what trestique has to say about their Sustainability program:

“We’re on a mission to offer a more sustainable alternative to traditional beauty products. Zero-waste systems are the future, so we are committed to providing custom zero-waste makeup systems, while reducing consumption, waste, and the use of single-use plastics.

Our Concealer Refill packaging is made from 95.93% post-consumer and post-industrial recycled materials.

All of our products are carbon-neutral, which means we offset each product’s carbon footprint (including shipping) individually.

Good things come in eco-friendly packages. All of our packaging cartons and shipping mailers are made from FSC-certified paper. The FSC ensures that our paper packaging materials are sourced from responsibly managed forests. They also prohibit the harvest of rare old-growth forests, prevent the loss of natural forest cover and expand protection of water quality.

Instead of standard petroleum-based ink, we print with soy ink on all our shipping mailers and packaging cartons.

Our products are also 100% recyclable and refillable.

Recycling can be confusing, we’ve partnered with Pact to smooth out the process so you don’t have to stress out. Once you have finished your trestique products, keep your blue Forever Case and drop your empty trestique refills into a Pact recycling bin inside any Credo store in the US or Hudson’s Bay store in Canada. If you don’t have access to a Pact bin, use our Pact mail-back recycling program and we’ll recycle it for you.”

Although trestique’s Black Friday 25% off discount is supposed to disappear as I write this review on Sunday night, I can’t believe that they won’t have a Cyber Monday discount that will be in effect. So take a look!

  1. I have never heard of this brand, but I could use a new concealer. It is too bad that you received Bone instead of Porcelain, but hopefully you can buy the Porcelain refill sooner. Thank you for this introduction, Allison! I will head over to check out their website. Thank you for including the list of ingredients! I hope that you had a wonderful long holiday weekend! <3 <3 <3

    1. As I mentioned, I became acquainted with trestique from my Ipsy bags and boxes. I had never heard of the brand either before Ipsy. I can’t understand why trestique is unable to replace Porcelain in their lineup, but I hope they get to it soon! Bone is definitely rather light for me, but it is usable in the meantime. Hope you find something you can use on the website!
