New Colorful Makeup Products from 2 Brands I Like

Two makeup brands that I like have just launched some new shades. I haven’t tried these particular shades yet, but since II have tried other shades in their mascara and gel liner collections, I have a sneaking suspicion the new addition will be good ones to try for a little change of pace.

Thrive Causemetics

I use Thrive’s Liquid Lash Extensions Mascara especially when I want standout lashes. In fact, it’s the only tubing mascara I have ever liked. It goes on very nicely, really lengthens my lashes, and comes off quite easily with Micellar Water or cleansing oil without ending up with little tubes all over my skin, which I detest. (In addition, Thrive says their mascara comes off with plain water, but I haven’t tried it.)

Thrive Lash Extensions Mascara has three shades that are part of their regular lineup:

  • Brynn: Rich Black
  • Crystal: Brown Black
  • Nola: Deep Blue.

I use Brynn, the black mascara, but I need to try Nola, a shade that looks like navy blue.

Nevertheless, Thrive has introduced 3 limited edition shades that look to me like Spring itself!

  • Donna: Green
  • ShantaQuillette: Pink

In my past experience wearing colored mascara in blue, purple or green, the colors are relatively subtle compared to black mascara. I think the colors look best when paired with colored eyeliner and either paired or coordinated with eyeshadow.

From what I can tell from the photos on the Thrive website, I would pass on the Pink, but Purple and Green look good. Thrive’s advertising talks about the colors as enhancing one’s eye color. The models in the ads have either brown or green/hazel eyes, and they do look great in the colored mascara. Unfortunately, none of their models have blue or grey eyes, so I don’t know if they intend the blue-eyed people like me to wear Nola, their permanent blue shade. Nevertheless, I’m quite interested in trying Thrive’s new Green or Purple.

Thrive Liquid Lash Extension Mascara is priced at $25 (though they have fairly frequent promotions), and is sold only on their website.

Melt Cosmetics Gel Liners

I have two of Melt Cosmetics Gel Liners in silver and navy blue. I love them because they’re easy-peasy to apply with a slant brush (my brush of choice). And once they dry (in seconds), they are on till you take them off.

Melt likes to mix things up, so sadly they have discontinued silvery and navy blue gel liners, and long ago, they discontinued the grey liner I was eager to get my hands on. During last autumn and early winter, Melt launched a slew of new colors from Onyx (deep, deep black) to bright red and bright orange and spooky purple in mattes, metallics and glitter finishes. Recently, they launched at least one more color that has definitely caught my eye:

  • Penny: truly the color of a brand new copper penny

Penny is what they call “Metal Bond Gel Liner”. I think that’s a fancy way of describing a metallic shade. Penny is the one that I am most interested in. Copper makes blue eyes pop, so I would love to try it.

Although they have several shades they describe as “New”, a couple of them stood out to me:

  • Burnished: a deep red/brown: ultra-matte
  • Night Shade: a deep indigo that changes color depending on the lighting, going from deep purple in the pot to midnight blue on the eye to almost black in low light; ultra-matte

If you like gel liners, Melt’s lineup of gels are a must-try. Priced from $15-24. Sold on the Melt website.
