For years, I stuck to one moisturizer from Olay. I was very loyal. Till I became a beauty blogger, I had no idea the variety of moisturizing and skincare treatment products that were out there including skincare products that were “better-for-you” with more natural ingredients.
I recently had the opportunity to try a couple of products from Reviva Labs. I’ve seen Reviva Labs’ products at Ulta and at Whole Foods, and I put them on my “to try” list. They have an extensive natural skincare line with lots of products for different skincare issues such as adult acne, dark spots, anti-aging, and it has different products for different skincare types, e.g. normal, oily, dry. Importantly, the products are affordable.
The company has been around for more than 40 years, and its natural products emphasize quality, effectiveness and innovation rather than big marketing campaigns and fancy packaging (the packaging is simple, lightweight and does the job). Originally, Reviva created natural skincare products based on research and product innovation for the professional skincare market. Reviva Labs was the first to introduce exfoliation products to the US, the first to introduce the ingredient elastin, and the first not to test on animals. The products do not contain animal ingredients (vegan). It’s also made in the U.S. Very impressive.
I’ve been using Reviva Labs Hi-Potency Peptides & More Anti-Wrinkle Cream for about six weeks.
It’s a perfect product for over 40 gals like us because it says right on the label, “For mature dry skin”. And it’s the perfect moisturizer for summer because it’s as light as a feather and it dries down completely with no greasy residue at all. It’s like a soufflé rather than a heavy cream. I just LOVE the texture of this cream!
In fact, sometimes I use it as an anti-wrinkle serum with a heavier moisturizer on top if my skin is extra dry. Sometimes, I use a lifting cream on top to get both benefits. In fact, the company even suggests doing that on the label: “NOTE: No single product offers maximum potency for every skin need. Layer the Peptide Cream or alternate with other Reviva Labs specialities for other facial areas.” How awesome is that?
I also learned some other interesting tidbits from Reviva Labs’ website. In response to Reviva’s product launch in 1981 of Stimulating Gel with electrically charged trace minerals from seaweed, the scientist who was in the process of developing La Mer Cream called Reviva to discuss similar ingredients and mode of action in what was to become La Mer. So Reviva was on it before La Mer was even born!
I like the Reviva Labs Peptides & More Anti-Wrinkle Cream a lot. My only suggestion would be to make it in a pump rather than a jar. So to help maintain its potency, I keep it in the refrigerator.
Reviva Peptides & More Anti-Wrinkle Cream contains matrixyl. Here’s what Reviva Labs says about the product ingredients:
- “New anti-wrinkle discovery with matrixyl peptide & Palmitoyl Peptide 3 (the key peptide in Strivectin) is one of the latest discoveries to help decrease lines and wrinkles. Clinical research for Palmitoyl Peptide-3 (Matrixyl) reported “significant improvement in wrinkle depth, length, volume and skin roughness. Reviva adds Marine Oligo Peptides for deeper lines, coconut endosperm for uniform new cells & skin smoothness. DMAE for firmness plus antioxidant vitamins and oils to aid absorption. All in the proper proportions and precise blendings. “
And without the Strivectin price tag!
Here are the product ingredients:
Purified Water, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Palmitoyl Pentapeptide 3,Sorbitan Olivate, Jojoba Seed Oil, Glycerin, Alpha-d-tocopherol, Marine Oligo Peptides, Coconut Endosperm Powder, DMAE, Tocotrienols, Xanthan Gum, Vitamin C Ester, Essential Oils of Ginger, Rosewood, Sandalwood & Balm Mint, Potassium Sorbate, Sodium Benzoate and Citric Acid.
And here’s a little more info from Reviva Labs on other key ingredients in the product:
- Vitamin C Ester (ascorbyl palmitate) provides protective antioxidant action, and helps repair past skin damage by promoting new collagen production. Vitamin C Ester provides multiple benefits: improving skin texture, maintaining skin firmness and tone, and improving skin radiance.
- DMAE: Dimethylaminoethanol is often called “facelift in a jar” by skin care specialists, because it helps firm and tighten the skin. With regular use DMAE will give skin a more defined, youthful appearance. DMAE, a component of cell membranes, is also one of the substances used by the body to make the neurotransmitter molecule acetylcholine. DMAE’s firming effects are believed to involve the signaling of acetylcholine in the skin.
