December 2014 Ipsy Glam Bag

"Fearless Heroine" ipsy subscription makeup

Somehow with everything going on this December, my most recent ipsy bag, Fearless Heroine, got lost in my attention. So before we get too deep into January, here it is.

The bag itself is definitely understated: a black, satiny dop kit shape with a burgundy zipper and heart-shaped ipsy zipper pull. I collect heart-shaped stuff, so I like the zipper pull.

So what did I get?

This month I received 4 brands I’ve used before and one new one, two full-size products and 3 deluxe samples.

So with the NYX Lip Balm and Cailyn Eye Polish alone, the bag is worth almost twice the $10  I paid for it. In fact, the bag i worth more than $45. Yay!

What works for me and what doesn’t?

Since I already have a couple of NYX Lip Balms and the Parfait shade is a little light for me, I will save this to be part of a giveaway.

Nourish Organic Eye Cream has already gone into my purse makeup bag. I like Nourish products, although I often find them a bit too lightweight for my dry skin. However, this eye cream is actually a little more substantial and I like it even more than other N.O. skincare products I’ve tried.

Tarte Lights Camera Lashes Mascara is one of my top tier mascaras. I like the formula that I find both lengthening and volumizing. The wand is a normal wand. This goes right into my purse makeup bag to replace the Tarte LCL Mascara that’s used up.

The Bumble and Bumble Bb Repair Blow Dry Serum will get a try from me. Essentially it’s like the John Frieda 3 Day Straight that I love, but instead of a spray, it’s a cream serum. Leaven-in creams often weigh my hair down and make it get dirty sooner, so I’m not sure whether this one will be any different. If it is, I’ll let you know!

The Cailyn Just Mineral Eye Polish in Orchid is the most exciting product in my bag. Though the color is Orchid, it reads rose gold as far as I’m concerned, and anything rose gold is great IMHO. It comes with a sponge-tip applicator, and it’s easy to apply. The shade is not overly glittery but a nice shimmer. On the Cailyn website, I noticed that it comes in a zillion other shades.

Final Assessment

Although perhaps not an overwhelming wow, I got a good bag this month. I would/will use everything in it (though I’m going to giveaway the NYX Lip Balm since I have a couple already). I’m even eager to try the Bumble and Bumble Blow Dry Serum since the brand has a good reputation.

If you subscribe, how did you like your bag? Did you get the dual-ended Crown eye shadow brush? I got one last year, and I like it a lot.

If you don’t subscribe and want to give it a go for $10 a month, please consider using my referral link so I can get some extra points.  😀

  1. Hi! We received the same bags. lol I was quite happy with it. Leave-in anything usually weighs my hair down too but I’m willing to give it a try. Thanks for sharing!

    1. I’m glad you were happy with this month’s bag too, Natalie! I guess we’ll both see if we like the B&B Blow Dry Repair. Was your Cailyn Just Minerals Eye Polish also Orchid…and if so, did it look more like rose gold to you? I’m wondering if my shade was mislabeled

    1. I haven’t tried Parfait coz I have a couple of others so I will add it to an upcoming giveaway. But like you, I love how it feels to wear the NYX butter Lip Balm!

  2. I love the contents of your bag. Wish I’d got the eye cream; it sounds great. The cleanser I got has given me bad bumps all over my forehead in four days’ use. I read a couple of other reviews today that said the same thing so I’m stopping using it. The travails of having sensitive skin!

    1. Yes, stop using it! Another friend had the same reaction. You should let ipsy and the company know about it if you have time.Too many bad reactions means there’s a problem with the product, I believe!

  3. I must try Lights, Camera Lashes – everyone (bloggers/youtubers) seem to love that mascara. I’ve only tried the Amazonian Clay Smart Mascara (in the wooden tube) and quite like it.

    Monica.

    1. I haven’t tried the one you mentioned, Monica. But I do like Lights Camera Lashes quite a bit – tho L’Oreal Voluminous Butterfly Intenza still is my #1 😉

    1. I’m glad you are happy that you ended your subscription, Erika. It definitely didn’t seem to be working out. I keep mine because I usually get a lot of visits to these posts and more comments from subscribers etc. Plus I shouldn’t be buying any more makeup since I will have to move out of my house soon since it’s so jammed with makeup. This allows me to get some treats every month that I especially appreciate when I stay strong and don’t shop 😉

  4. Yes, it was labeled Orchid. I was expecting a light purple shade but it was rose gold. Weird? I like it anyway. Actually, I would have liked either shade.

    1. The reason I asked, Natalie, was that the photo of Orchid in the little ad at the bottom of my post shows Orchid as a purple/true orchid shade, but we clearly got rose gold. I love both too, but it seemed odd 😉

    1. Oh, I hope you enjoy the subscription, Valerie! I hope you get good products in your bag. I think some people forget that it cost $10 delivered and they expect a little too much 😉

  5. Thanks! Yes, shipping alone can be a few dollars. I almost bought a concealer pencil today on another site, but, the shipping was $7.00 and the tax was over $2.00! So, $10. for this is a bargain 🙂

    1. I don’t subscribe or receive any of the other sub bags/boxes so for $10, I still enjoy it. Every now and then there’s a real winner. And most of the time there’s stuff I can use 🙂

    1. Oh, boo, Destany! I haven’t opened mine yet. I was planning on saving it for a giveaway bag, but everyone says it’s so great maybe I’ll keep it.
