Get Ready for Prom & Wedding Season with Victoria’s Dress

Victoria's Dress indigo blue strapless cocktail dress

Have you ever had a dress that you saw somewhere get stuck in your mind? Even though you don’t have an occasion to wear it, you want it anyway! When I was in seventh grade, I went to a party where I saw a girl wearing a dress that truly spoke to me. It was a sleeveless drop-waist dress with the upper part in “cranberry” (what we called back in the day what is now known as burgundy) velvet with a pink flounced silky skirt. It was adorable. I knew my family couldn’t afford to buy it for me, but I lusted after it all the same. And I remember it to this day.

Victoria’s Dress

Fast forward about a million years since seventh grade. I was asked to review Victoria’s Dress, a special occasion dress website. At first I thought it might be too far afield for Never Say Die Beauty but when I visited the site, I quickly changed my mind. Although I am way beyond prom myself and unfortunately I don’t have any daughters, many of my readers do. In addition to Prom dresses, Victoria’s Dress has an incredible array of wedding dresses, evening dresses, nother-of-the-bride dresses, bridesmaid dresses, and cocktail dresses that are appropriate for any special occasion.

Plus, I seriously fell in love with one of the cocktail dresses. I haven’t been able to get it out of my mind. I wasn’t able to go to a special family event in LA at the end of February, but the dress I covet would have been perfect for the occasion. Years ago when I worked in advertising in NYC, my friend Sue M. told me her 5 year old niece said she wanted to grow up to be an “Ooh-la-la girl” with boobies who wore slinky dresses. That’s what this dress makes me think of…in a good way!

I love the way the fabric is draped and gathered. And the gorgeous indigo blue color would be perfect with my red hair. I think it’s very feminine but also sophisticated. Love, love, love this dress!

How Victoria’s Dress Works

Victoria’s Dress has about a million different styles: short, mid-length, evening dress, sheath, A-line, ball gown etc. For instance, I discovered there are 596 styles of Cocktail Dresses alone! So you don’t have to go through every single dress, you can use the guide on the side to specify what you’re looking for in terms of price, style (silhouette), fabric, color, sleeve-length, neckline, length, back details, and type of embellishments.

The real difference with Victoria’s Dress is that each dress is made-to-order. You can select Standard Size or Custom Size. Can you believe that you can choose to have your dress CUSTOM-MADE! I thought the additional fee for custom-made would be a fortune, but it is very affordable. Custom-making the blue cocktail dress that I love would cost an additional $16! The website gives detailed instructions on how to take your measurements, though they do suggest that you have a professional tailor measure you to ensure absolute accuracy. For someone like me who is short, having a dress custom-made is a boon since I often have to have my clothing altered after purchase anyway, and the after-market tailoring definitely costs me more than $16.

In addition to style variety, you can select from a broad range of colors. All of the dresses I looked at had 29 different color choices available. I was stunned.

The dresses come in a wide range of women’s sizes that go from size 2 – 26W in US sizes. The website is based in the U.K., but it shows size charts for UK, US and European sizes to make it easy to order. Plus you can convert the affordable prices into your own currency directly on the page you’re looking at.

Victoria’s Dress aims to provide outstanding quality at affordable prices with an online shop that eliminates the brick & mortar store. There is live chat online if you have any questions. Plus, they use high quality materials in crafting the dresses. I was happy to see they use Swarovski crystals rather than a random brand, and they provide extra beads and crystals just in case.

You do need to plan a bit in advance with Victoria’s Dress. To craft a wedding dress takes 12-15 business days, and other dresses take 10-12 business days. Leave at least 3-5 business days for shipping. The blue cocktail dress was estimated to take about 3 weeks to arrive.

Here are a few other dresses that have caught my eye.

The styles range from conservative to va-va-voom. And there are zillions of flowy dresses for prom, or Bat Mitzvah party or Quinceanera celebrations.

So there are sure to be styles that will suit you, your daughter and your special occasion. I definitely suggest you take a look at Victoria’s Dress website, and see all the possibilities.

Let me know if you find a dress you’re obsessed with!

    1. I just missed an occasion where I could have definitely worn this gorgeous blue cocktail dress. I hope I’ll get invited to another event soon. I WANT this DRESS!

    1. I don’t usually gravitate toward deep blues, but so many of the blues and navy dresses just called out to me! Wish I had a party coming up 🙂

    1. That must have been fun to help your niece shop. But I hear ya. I wish I had a special event to go to. I want to wear the indigo blue dress!

    1. If you do check it out for possibilities for the ball, let me know what you think, Julie! I love the fact that you can send in your measurements, and get the dress custom-made for not much more money!

    1. Quite amazing, I think! Prom dresses, wedding dresses, bridesmaid dresses, and party/special occasion/cocktail dresses. I just adore the blue strapless dress!

    1. Me too, Eugenia! I know if I bought the blue dress that I love, it would sit in the closet waiting for an event. The next big event I know of is in 3 years!

  1. That blue cocktail dress you showed at the beginning is GORGEOUS! I love that they offer custom sizing, and such a wide range of standard sizes. I know sometimes I can be one size on top and another on the bottom, so that’s great! I wish I had a reason to buy another cute prom dress!

    1. I like that this site caters to women of all/most sizes. Because I am short, I always have to have dresses and pants altered, and I would much rather just send in my dimensions for much less than it would cost to tailor my item after the fact.

  2. Oh my goodness. I could get a dress that actually fits me? That would be unique in itself. I have a wedding this summer and if we decide to go (it’s out of town) then I’ll be sure to see what I could get on this site.

    1. If you decide to go to the wedding, do check it out, Marcia, and let me know what you think! I wish I had an event coming up. I’d love that blue dress!

    1. Me, too. When I lived in NYC, I had more fancy occasions and event. Now I don’t even wear that many dresses in summer! Boo hoo. I love that blue cocktail dress!

  3. I love shops like this because I have such a hard time finding the right dresses in department stores. I like the option to customize. They have a blue strapless taffeta cocktail dress on the website that I might order for my friend’s wedding. So pretty and a great price!

    1. Mina, thank you so much for your (hard to come by) comment! I think the customization benefit is amazing. The blue taffeta strapless dress sounds beautiful! They have so many amazing styles. If you do give it a go, I would call them to talk through the details to be sure. And please let me know what you think.

  4. I’m always a bit scared when ordering “custom made” clothes online, since I’ve heard so many horror stories, particularly about wedding dresses!

  5. Hey!!!
