My Cute New Wallet from Kate Spade: Holiday Gift Idea

Are you at your computer or out at the stores looking for bargain gifts and treats for yourself? Or putting off shopping till you get in the mood? Well, here’s another gift idea for you.

I had been using the same black leather traditional style wallet for years and years. It was a good well-made wallet. It had a big coin purse in the front, held lots of cards, and had a wide pocket for cash and other things. It held up extremely well. But it took up a ton of room in my purse and it weighed a ton too. I think I had it for at least 15 years, maybe longer.

Although the old black French-style wallet is still in good shape, I’ve been hankering for something new, less bulky and more attractive. My elegant friend Amy always seemed so put together with her slim clutch style wallets. Maybe it was time for a different style wallet.

For some reason, there was a sale on something (makeup, I imagine) on Hautelook that got me going. I found some really cute wallets by Kate Spade. I found one in my target price range, but I decided to check katespade.com to see if I could get a better deal or if there was something else I’d prefer. Katespade.com was much more expensive, and didn’t have the wallet I was looking for. I was all set to buy it on Hautelook, but the shipping cost added on almost $10 more. I decided to go to Nordstrom Rack the next day.

At the Rack, I found the wallet I almost purchased online. Cute and affordable, but really too small for my needs. No coin area. Also, a bit plain.

But I found its “big sister” that was a clutch style wallet, larger and more appropriate but also more expensive. It had more attractive detailing: striped interior fabric, gold spade logo, black bow carrying piece. So here it is.

It has at least 12 slots for credit cards and a zippered coin purse in the center. One or two areas for cash and one section for keeping receipts etc. I decided to go for it.

It will go well with my red/white/black purse, my black purse, my white purse, my brown crocodile purse with red accents, my Moschino heart purse, and even with the hot pink D&B drawstring.

I like everything about it except that it doesn’t have a special place for my driver’s license that always made going through airport security easier because I knew just where to find my license and I could easily see if I had put it back or not. Now, I have to rely on my memory to find it and put it back in the same spot.

The wallet wasn’t inexpensive at $83.75, but hopefully I’ll have it for 15 years to amortize the cost! Here’s a similar wallet from Kate Spade so I guess I did get a good deal after all. And below there are a few other, but pricier, options.

While I was at Nordstrom Rack, I discovered that they discount Alexis Bittar jewelry. Good to know! And in other parts of the jewelry section, they had some great necklaces, bracelets and earrings. I picked up a sparkly necklace to have on hand for a gift.

    1. Yes, I don’t know why there isn’t a DL slot. There is one in the KS travel wallet, but that one wasn’t in the store. For the price that I paid, I guess a little inconvenience is OK 😉 Hope you’re having a good day.

    1. I love Desigual. I just noticed that there’s one in Harvard Square in Cambridge. I shopped there in Spain. Didn’t know it had come to the US till recently!

  7. Great color! I love the stripes inside and the bow wrist strap. I haven’t replaced my wallet in years. I guess I got my money’s worth out of it. Mine is dark red faux crocodile.

    1. I’m not familiar with that designer so I will take a look. I could really use a few more card slots and I do miss the DL window, but I am managing so far. Nevertheless, I will look into Ehrlich wallets and keep an eye out for one at a good price

    1. That’s great that you can maintain a small wallet. My French purse was so fat that it took up too much room in my purse. The slim clutch makes things easier for me.

  24. Loving that wallet! I had a Kate Spade iPhone case in the same colours and it was my favourite. I still have the same wallet from about 3 or 4 years ago but I think it’s time for an upgrade, it’s looking a little sad lol
