Jeff's birthday cake 2016 neversaydiebeauty.com

Hi! Hope you’re having a nice weekend!

Jeff and I started off the weekend celebrating his birthday. He loves steak so I took him to dinner in Boston at Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse located in the Old City Hall. It was a hot summer night, but we chose to eat outdoors on their quiet patio instead of inside the noisy, crowded restaurant. The food was perfection! But when we returned to the car in the parking garage, Jeff noticed that his keys were missing. We carefully retraced all our steps (we went for a long walk in Boston because we were early for our reservation), but we couldn’t find the keys. (I was wearing shoes that were not meant for two long walks!) We went back to the car, and Jeff noticed the keys on the floor locked inside the car. It took AAA about an hour to come, but the guy was able to break into the car so we could get the keys. A little too much drama, if you know what I mean!

Then we went back to Jeff’s place, and we each had a piece of the birthday cake that I had our friend, Leandro of Leandro’s Bakery in Essex MA make for the occasion. It was delicious and so pretty!

Tonight, we’re going on a cruise of the Gloucester harbor on the Beauport Princess with three other couples. Three of the guys have birthdays a couple of days apart during the last week of August. A nice way to celebrate – on the sea and with a lobster dinner  😀

  1. Reminds me of the time my friend lost her keys at an amusement park that was over a hour away from her house. What fun that was. Glad it all worked out for you and Jeff in the end. That cake is gorgeous. And if it tasted as good as it looks I bet it was to die for. Sounds like a weekend full of good food and good times. I bet Jeff is loving his birthday weekend with you. 🙂

    1. Thankfully, the keys fiasco had a happyish ending. I’ve been telling Jeff I’d buy him a Tile to help me find his keys – he is always misplacing them – but he says no! And he blamed me for his losing them since I made him bring a sport jacket to the restaurant instead of the “murse” that he usually carries. Oh well. The cake was really good. My Brazilian friend, Leandro, is a true artist in all ways. He opened a bakery and cafe just a year ago, and cakes are his specialty. I’ve had his beautiful flower cupcakes before, but never got to try a cake. This little 6″ cake, just for Jeff and me, was the first one I ordered. It was so yummy! He makes all kinds of cakes. When I went to pick up Jeff’s cake, Leandro was making a 1980s cake in the shape of a tape cassette using fondant. It looked cool, but give me a good butter cream cake any day! I hope you had a good day today, Laura 🙂

  2. Brian would tell you that I am a master at “the blame game.” lol I use to do it unconsciously but after 16 years of Brian pointing it out to me I can catch myself doing it. Since he knows I am aware of it when I start in on him he understands it is only to goad him into what I like to call “playful banter.” 😉
I am a buttercream cake girl myself. I have a favorite bakery for birthday cakes. I just cannot handle the sweetness like I use to of the icing.

  3. Sorry about the key incident but it sounds like Jeff’s birthday celebration was fun and delicious also.Happy belated to him.

    1. Thank you, Laura! It really was, though the missing key incident did put a big damper on things. But with the lobster dinner and sail on Sunday night, I think Jeff had a good birthday weekend. This coming Labor Day weekend should be a good one too. This is my week on the sea: Sunday night, today a trip to the Isles of Shoals, and Friday afternoon on the schooner Ardelle. I wish I had taken more photos, I could do a post about it. Maybe I will anyway! What are you plans for the weekend? Anything special or just relaxing?
