Oh, I just love the name of this blush from Japonesque, Velvet Touch Blush, because that’s exactly what it feels like: velvet!

I have been dying to try Japonesque Velvet Touch Blush since I saw it in the Ulta Beauty catalogue a couple of years ago.

Truth be told, I fell in love with the packaging right away. The artistic modernist designs and swirling pastel colors on the top of the eye-catching square black packages captured me immediately. The packaging reminds me of Japanese lacquer even though in reality it’s high quality plastic.

Unfortunately, my Ulta store doesn’t carry many Japonesque makeup products, just the brushes and brush cleaner. I had been planning to pick up a blush during one of the 21 Days of Beauty, but somehow I missed it

Finally, I got the opportunity to try out four of the six available shades. Happy day!

The ones I have are:

  • 01: pinky peach
  • 02: pale peach
  • 04: raspberry
  • 05: cinnamon

The shade descriptions are mine because they are identified only by numbers. I’m missing 03 rose pink and 06 bronze.

Let’s take a look at the swatches: finger, direct sunlight and indirect light:

Japonesque Velvet Touch Blush is crafted from finely milled powder that gives the blush an exceptionally silky smooth feeling on my finger when I swatched it as well as on my cheeks. In fact, sometimes I just apply this with my fingers because it’s so smooth, and then I blend it out with a blending sponge or brush afterwards.

The blush is amazingly buildable, so you can go from sheer to deeply pigmented just by adding layers. There is no powdery fallout at all. Frankly, I’m usually a cream blush fan because I dislike the powder dustup that many powder blushes give. No such problem here. Just silky smooth color. I looooooove this blush!

When I’m in the mood or have some more time, I apply one of the lighter shades like 01 or 02 and then do a bit of contouring with the deeper shade 05.

Speaking of contouring… While I adore the individual mirrored compacts, but I noticed on the Japonesque website that you can buy the Velvet Touch Face Palette with three of their best selling blush shades, a gorgeous opalescent highlighter and a brand new contour shade. I wish I could see the top of the palette to confirm, but I’m guessing that it has a pretty colored swirl pattern like their other Velvet Touch makeup. I don’t have the price info on this yet.

For the individual Japonesque Velvet Touch Blushes, the price is $22 each, 0.229 oz. Made in Italy. Sold at Ulta Beauty.

    1. These blushes are so pretty and they feel fabulous, Shireen. I wish Japonesque were more widely available. I love the heated lash curler and I have two of their gorgeous eye palettes. But Ulta is the main source, I think. I went to Sephora today to look at a couple of things I have my eye on for the regular VIB event. I need to spend $150 by year end to keep my status. That’s a lot of $$, but maybe it’s worth it??

    1. These Japonesque blushes and highlight/contours are so wonderfully silky smooth. I think you’d love 01 – it’s the one I reach for most. So pretty

    1. The Japonesque packaging was what made me fall in love with these pretty blushes initially, but since trying them with their silky soft consistency, I’m hooked!

    1. I fell in love with the packaging. But I’ve loved everything I’ve tried so far from Japonesque: heated lash curler, these gorgeous soft blushes, and two fab eye palettes. But I haven’t tried their makeup brushes yet!

    1. Japonesque is a terrific brand, but I wish it was more widely available. Ulta seems to be the key source. I adore these silky soft blushes, and I also love their heated lash curler, eye shadow palettes and brush cleaner too!

  1. Ooooooh, 4 looks niiiiice. They’re all pretty though. I’m probably just biased in favour of that one because I think it’s a shade I gravitate towards.
2 and 5 look like they have more shimmer in them. Or are my eyes deceiving me? They could be, at this point, lol

    1. Yes, you’re right, Rach. I should have mentioned that 01 and 04 are matte and 02 and 05 have a hint of shimmer, but just a hint. 04 is a gorgeous raspberry, the brightest of the shades! The pigmentation of 01 and 04 is perfect. The silky smooth feel of these blushes is so delicious! I have wanted these for 2 years, and I am now deeeeelighted!

    1. I read your review of these some time ago, Cindy. In fact, I tried to find the post and link to your post but I couldn’t find a search box on your site. I love 01 and 02, so pretty. I just saw the eyeshadows with the similar packaging. They’re next on my list!

  2. What great packaging. I haven’t seen the cosmetics at my Ulta stores either but I know if I did I’d be very tempted by these beautiful shades.

    1. Every now and then, I come upon some random Japonesque makeup at my local Ulta store. They have a good stock of makeup brushes and brush cleaner, but they just don’t stock the makeup line. Having to order it online is a deterrent for me, but it’s such great stuff. Their eye shadow palettes are lovely too!

    1. Japonesque is sold at Dermstore and at BeautyMark. I’ve never heard of BeautyMark. Gotta look up if BeautyMark an brick & mortar store in Canada or an online retailer only 🙂
