Since 1994, Jan Marini Skin Research has been providing professional skincare based on research and innovative techniques that provide evidence-based results.  In fact, they have pages of unaltered before and after photos of real people that are absolutely amazing. I now have a list about a mile long of Jan Marini skincare products that I want to try next.

For the past 6 weeks or so, I’ve made a start with Jan Marini skincare products. The first one I received back in February was:

Hyla3D HA Activating Complex

New Hyla3D HA Activating Complex was the first Jan Marini product that I received back in February, and it came in the nick of time. During the winter when the air is so dry, my skin can easily become dehydrated. I was eager to have a hyaluronic acid elixir to encourage moisture in my skin.

I’ve been using Hyla3D HA Activating Complex for almost two months. To be truthful, I didn’t read up on the product. Instead, I just got to work adding it to my skincare regimen. Hyla3D  HA Activating Complex is a pale yellow lightweight gel that I apply twice a day after toner to my face and neck. It dries within a couple of minutes, and I apply either another serum on top or go right to my moisturizer.

The other day I was looking at my face in the mirror, and I thought my skin looked plumper, and a little smoother in certain areas. I was happily surprised when I read about Hyla3D HA Activating Complex: in addition to increasing the hydration level of the skin, it also adds volume so that skin looks fuller and younger. Yes! The different forms of hyaluronic acid in this serum add moisture while helping the skin produce more HA as well as collagen and elastin on its own.

I love their cool diagram that shows how Hyla3D HA Activating Complex works:

Here are the key components of the serum:

  • Liposomal Encapsulated HA
  • Cross-Linked HA
  • Traditional HA
  • Tissue Respiratory Factor
  • HA Booster
  • HA Peptide
  • Coenzyme Q10

I’m the first to admit that I didn’t know that there are different types of HA, but as long as I am seeing and feeling results in my own skin, I’m happy about them all.

$125 for 30 ml/1 fl.oz. Good for all skin types.

Ingredients: Water/Aqua/Eau, Glycerin, Butylene Glycol, Sodium Hyaluronate, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Sodium Hyaluronate Crosspolymer, Saccharomyces Lysate Extract, Oligopeptide-24, Ubiquinone, Calcium Ketogluconate, Peucedanum Graveolens (Dill) Extract, Panthenol, Lecithin, Hydrogenated Lecithin, Tocopherol, Dimethicone/Vinyl Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Xanthan Gum, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Glycine Soja (Soybean) Oil, Sodium Hydroxide, Potassium Phosphate, Pentylene Glycol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Caprylyl Glycol, Sodium Oleate, Citric Acid, Isoceteth-10, Silica, Lactobacillus Ferment, Alcohol, Hexylene Glycol, Disodium EDTA, Phenoxyethanol

BioGlycolic Face Cleanser

After I had been using the HA serum for about a month, I received several more skincare products from Jan Marini Skincare that are the basis of their Skin Care Management System.

Unlike Hyla3D that is a new treatment product, these skincare products are numbered “steps” in their regimen. BioGlycolic Face Cleanser is Step 1. Although I probably could figure out when to use them, the steps can be helpful especially when you get to layering serums.

So I start my day with BioGlycolic Face Cleanser, and I use it again at night after my first cleanse with micellar water or with my FaceOff Makeup Remover Cloth. It comes in a handy, plastic pump bottle.

Jan Marini BioGlycolic Face Cleanser, neversaydiebeauty.com

It’s a creamy, non-foaming, glycolic acid-based cleanser and exfoliator in one. Glycolic acid, like retinoids, stimulates collagen, tightens pores, and sloughs off dead skin cells giving skin a smoother appearance. Plus this cleanser has sorbitol, a natural humectant to prevent dryness.

When I first started using BioGlycolic Face Cleanser, it did give my skin a bit of a tingle from the GA, but it wasn’t painful and I got used to it almost immediately. Frankly, I would describe it as a gentle facial cleanser. It’s recommended for all skin types, and it helps with aging skin, acne, redness, and hyperpigmentation.

I could definitely tell that BioGlycolic Face Cleanser is doing its job because I used The Body Shop Drops of Youth Liquid Peel that I apply to my face in a thin layer and within minutes, I can usually rub off a lot of dead skin cells. Well, there’s definitely not nearly as much to rub off because I’m doing it on a twice a daily basis!

$35 for 8 fl.oz./237 ml

Ingredients: Water/Aqua/Eau, Glycolic Acid, Sorbitol, Cetyl Alcohol, Stearyl Alcohol, Sodium Hydroxide, Ammonium Lauryl Sulfate, Palmitic Acid, Caprylyl Glycol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Hexylene Glycol, Phenoxyethanol

C-Esta Face Serum

Step 2 is C-Esta Face Serum.

Jan Marini C-Esta Face Serum, neversaydiebeauty.com

I would describe this serum as more like an essence. It’s a lightweight liquid in contrast to the more gel-like Hyla3D as you can see in the photo below. C-Esta is yellowish in color, that I apply right after toner (even though using BioGlycolic Cleanser I don’t need a toner, I’m a toner person so I guess this isn’t actually Step 2 but it is in their regimen.) I pat it onto my face and my skin drinks it in very quickly.

The role of C-Esta Face Serum is to rejuvenate. It’s described as “an antioxidant cocktail featuring Vitamin C and DMAE, shown to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and uneven skin texture” as well as for powerful free-radical protection.

Key ingredients include:

  • Ascorbyl Palmitate (Vitamin C)
  • DMAE
  • Hyaluronic Acid
  • Vitamins (B5 & E)
  • Tyrosine
  • Zinc

Here’s a tip I recently read: “Apply an antioxidant serum under your sunblock to fight the aging free radicals produced by the sun’s rays.”
Dr. Leslie Baumann – InStyle Magazine – March 2014 Issue. I’ve been doing it with C-Esta Face Serum and the Antioxidant Daily Face Protectant below to keep those free-radicals at bay! I guess that’s why you can buy these two together in a kit.

Ingredients: Water/Aqua/Eau, Sodium Hyaluronate, Ascorbyl Palmitate, Urea, Butylene Glycol, Dicaprylate/Dicaprate, Dimethicone, Acetyl Tyrosine, Dimethyl MEA, Fragrance (Parfum), Sodium Hydroxide, Tocopheryl Acetate, Pantethine, Zinc Sulfate, Ergothioneine, Pyridoxine HCl, Sodium Metabisulfite, Xanthan Gum, Disodium EDTA, Farnesol, Linalool, Phenoxyethanol, Methylparaben, Butylparaben, Ethylparaben, Propylparaben

Antioxidant Daily Face Protectant SPF 33

Jan Marini Antioxidant Daily Face Protectant SPF 33, neversaydiebeauty.com

This daytime moisturizer with SPF 33 is actually Step 5 of the regimen, but I apply it after I apply the Hyla3D Activating Complex (which I apply after C-Esta Face Serum; the order of application is based on the weight of the serum). As I mentioned above, Antioxidant Daily Face Protectant SPF 33 came to me as a duo along with C-Esta Face Serum to help fight free-radicals.

I love this moisturizer that comes in a handy plastic tube. It has a light sweet scent that disappears upon application. It’s not greasy, it’s lightweight but hydrating, and it absorbs quickly. It’s an off white medium-weight cream that’s a pleasure to wear.  It’s water-resistant, and it has broad-spectrum UVA and UVB protection.  It’s definitely hydrating, and I’m happy to know that it contains HA, too. Though I don’t need it, Antioxidant Daily Face Protectant SPF 33 contains oil control ingredients. I’ve been wearing it as my daytime moisturizer for a few weeks, but it will be great for the hot weather too when I’m spending more time outdoors.

The Daily Face Protectant SPF 33 uses chemical sunscreen ingredients. For those of you who prefer physical sunscreen, Jan Marini Skin Research makes that too – Physical Protectant Broad Spectrum SPF 45, so check it out!

Active Ingredients: Avobenzone-1%, Octinoxate-7.5%, Octisalate-5%, Oxybenzone (CAS 131-57-7)-6% Inactive Ingredients: Water/Aqua/Eau, C12-15 Alkyl Benzoate, Butylene Glycol, Butyloctyl Salicylate, Cyclopentasiloxane, Cyclohexasiloxane, Phoenix Dactylifera (Date) Extract*, Poly Methyl Methacrylate/EDMA, Sodium Lactate, Sodium Hyaluronate, Glycerin, Carbomer, Yeast Extract, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Sorbitan Oleate, Triethanolamine, Fragrance (Parfum), Disodium EDTA, Phenoxyethanol, Imidazolidinyl Urea, Diazolidinyl Urea, Caramel, Yellow 5 (CI 19140)

The tube of Daily Face Protectant SPF 33 contains 2 fl.oz./57 g and sold on its own at $51. I noticed that it also comes in a tinted version with SPF 33. The two product kit called Rejuvenate & Protect (C-Esta Face Serum & Daily Face Protectant SPF 33) is priced at $135.

I’m pleased that with my arsenal of Jan Marini skincare products my face is facing the new season in better shape as well as better protected from the sun and the damaging free-radicals! Because I’ve had good results so far with these four products, I’m eager to try some more. Jan Marini Skincare has several skincare products that address specific problems that I have:

  • Transformation Eye Cream that’s formulated for use under the brow bone and on the eyelid – the area that I am most concerned about hydrating and firming
  • Luminate Hand Cream that helps fade dark spots and rejuvenate the look of the backs of the hands.

Jan Marini seems to have everyone covered because in addition to these anti-aging products that I’m enjoying and the others that I’m lusting after, they have a number of products that are specifically formulated for oily skin and acne. Visit the Jan Marini Skin Research website and see their impressive product lineup as well as the equally impressive before and after photos. The products are sold on the Jan Marini Skin Research website, Dermstore.com, Lovelyskin.com and other fine retailers.

    1. I’ve had very good results so far with these JM skincare products. Very impressive! And if you purchase the kits, the price point is definitely affordable

    1. I hadn’t tried Jan Marini Skin Research products before this, but I had heard of the brand. I’ve had really good results so far with this combo. I wish Dermstore shipped to Canada because it’s almost always possible to find a 20% off coupon for Dermstore!

  1. Jan Marini has a really good ingredient deck in their products. One must research and read and find out what is in the products they use. Thanks for the review on Jan Marini products. Have a beautiful day today.🌻 Don’t forget to share your “smile” with someone. 😍

    1. Thank you, DiEtta! I’m “home alone”, but if I go out for a jog, I’ll be sure to smile 😉 If there are any ingredients you’re curious about, let me know and I’ll try to give you an answer!

  2. Strange that i always believed the higher the SPF the better you are protected, but i have realized when i was attending a launch of a skincare brand that it actually just protect you for that amount of minutes and also the higher the SPF also means more chemicals into the product to protect you.

    1. SPF is definitely a confusing thing: “If it takes 20 minutes for your unprotected skin to start turning red, using an SPF 15 sunscreen theoretically prevents reddening 15 times longer — about five hours. Another way to look at it is in terms of percentages: SPF 15 filters out approximately 93 percent of all incoming UVB rays. SPF 30 keeps out 97 percent and SPF 50 keeps out 98 percent.” So yes, with more SPF ingredients, you’re just getting a slightly higher amount of protection. And most people don’t wear nearly enough of it (including me) on their skin!

  3. I’ve started noticing these new Jan Marini items but didn’t know much about them. I’m a big fan of hyaluronic acid so the line seems like one I’d enjoy, especially if the fragrance is gone quickly.

    1. I’ve been trying to find the % GA in the cleanser, but I don’t see it. I’m guessing about 5% because it’s very easy to use. I’m a GA fan too

  4. I like some of Jan Marini’s products. Most of the products that claims to have a hyaluronic acid use a derivative called sodium hyaluronate. HA per se has very large molecules which makes it impossible to penetrate the dermis. Sodium hyaluronate has smaller molecules but whether it does really penetrate is not really clinically explained. Nevertheless, these types of moisturizers are great humectants and I can personally vouch for the “suppleness amd tautness”. I like how my face looks and feels especially when I layer seum and moisturizer which contain sodium hyaluronate

    1. I remember your very informative post on HA several weeks ago. Yes, these products list sodium hyaluronate as the form of HA – though they mention 5 “types” of HA plus an HA booster and an HA peptide. I was trying to get a hold of my contact at JM to ask a few questions but I haven’t heard back from her. Nevertheless, I’m having good luck with these four products in terms of how my skin looks and feels.

    1. I’m sorry that my comment program doesn’t come with a correction button, but I’m afraid to switch to another coz I never have problems with this one! And yes, I knew what you meant!

    1. Yes, you’re right! I do love that mask and I was a teeny bit disappointed to see so little come off. I guess the Jan Marini BioGlycolic Face Cleanser is a fabulous gentle exfoliator that’s making one of my favorite masks obsolete!

  5. I have had this brand on my watch lists for a while. I need to finally try something since I read good things about them and dermstore is having a sale.

    1. The price point is not mainstream for sure. But the company makes the products more affordable if you buy them in their kits – and though the price may still be a bit high, you get a lot of product(s) for the money.
