Getting My Face Ready for Spring with Skincare from Jan Marini Skin Research

Since 1994, Jan Marini Skin Research has been providing professional skincare based on research and innovative techniques that provide evidence-based results.  In fact, they have pages of unaltered before and after photos of real people that are absolutely amazing. I now have a list about a mile long of Jan Marini skincare products that I want to try next.

For the past 6 weeks or so, I’ve made a start with Jan Marini skincare products. The first one I received back in February was:

Hyla3D HA Activating Complex

New Hyla3D HA Activating Complex was the first Jan Marini product that I received back in February, and it came in the nick of time. During the winter when the air is so dry, my skin can easily become dehydrated. I was eager to have a hyaluronic acid elixir to encourage moisture in my skin.

I’ve been using Hyla3D HA Activating Complex for almost two months. To be truthful, I didn’t read up on the product. Instead, I just got to work adding it to my skincare regimen. Hyla3D  HA Activating Complex is a pale yellow lightweight gel that I apply twice a day after toner to my face and neck. It dries within a couple of minutes, and I apply either another serum on top or go right to my moisturizer.

The other day I was looking at my face in the mirror, and I thought my skin looked plumper, and a little smoother in certain areas. I was happily surprised when I read about Hyla3D HA Activating Complex: in addition to increasing the hydration level of the skin, it also adds volume so that skin looks fuller and younger. Yes! The different forms of hyaluronic acid in this serum add moisture while helping the skin produce more HA as well as collagen and elastin on its own.

I’m the first to admit that I didn’t know that there are different types of HA, but as long as I am seeing and feeling results in my own skin, I’m happy about them all.

BioGlycolic Face Cleanser

After I had been using the HA serum for about a month, I received several more skincare products from Jan Marini Skincare that are the basis of their Skin Care Management System.

Unlike Hyla3D that is a new treatment product, these skincare products are numbered “steps” in their regimen. BioGlycolic Face Cleanser is Step 1. Although I probably could figure out when to use them, the steps can be helpful especially when you get to layering serums.

So I start my day with BioGlycolic Face Cleanser, and I use it again at night after my first cleanse with micellar water or with my FaceOff Makeup Remover Cloth. It comes in a handy, plastic pump bottle.

It’s a creamy, non-foaming, glycolic acid-based cleanser and exfoliator in one. Glycolic acid, like retinoids, stimulates collagen, tightens pores, and sloughs off dead skin cells giving skin a smoother appearance. Plus this cleanser has sorbitol, a natural humectant to prevent dryness.

When I first started using BioGlycolic Face Cleanser, it did give my skin a bit of a tingle from the GA, but it wasn’t painful and I got used to it almost immediately. Frankly, I would describe it as a gentle facial cleanser. It’s recommended for all skin types, and it helps with aging skin, acne, redness, and hyperpigmentation.

I could definitely tell that BioGlycolic Face Cleanser is doing its job because I used The Body Shop Drops of Youth Liquid Peel that I apply to my face in a thin layer and within minutes, I can usually rub off a lot of dead skin cells. Well, there’s definitely not nearly as much to rub off because I’m doing it on a twice a daily basis!

C-Esta Face Serum

Step 2 is C-Esta Face Serum.

I would describe this serum as more like an essence. It’s a lightweight liquid in contrast to the more gel-like Hyla3D as you can see in the photo below. C-Esta is yellowish in color, that I apply right after toner (even though using BioGlycolic Cleanser I don’t need a toner, I’m a toner person so I guess this isn’t actually Step 2 but it is in their regimen.) I pat it onto my face and my skin drinks it in very quickly.

The role of C-Esta Face Serum is to rejuvenate. It’s described as “an antioxidant cocktail featuring Vitamin C and DMAE, shown to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and uneven skin texture” as well as for powerful free-radical protection.

Key ingredients include:

• Ascorbyl Palmitate (Vitamin C)
• DMAE
• Hyaluronic Acid
• Vitamins (B5 & E)
• Tyrosine
• Zinc

Dr. Leslie Baumann – InStyle Magazine – March 2014 Issue. I’ve been doing it with C-Esta Face Serum and the Antioxidant Daily Face Protectant below to keep those free-radicals at bay! I guess that’s why you can buy these two together in a kit.

Antioxidant Daily Face Protectant SPF 33

This daytime moisturizer with SPF 33 is actually Step 5 of the regimen, but I apply it after I apply the Hyla3D Activating Complex (which I apply after C-Esta Face Serum; the order of application is based on the weight of the serum). As I mentioned above, Antioxidant Daily Face Protectant SPF 33 came to me as a duo along with C-Esta Face Serum to help fight free-radicals.

I love this moisturizer that comes in a handy plastic tube. It has a light sweet scent that disappears upon application. It’s not greasy, it’s lightweight but hydrating, and it absorbs quickly. It’s an off white medium-weight cream that’s a pleasure to wear.  It’s water-resistant, and it has broad-spectrum UVA and UVB protection.  It’s definitely hydrating, and I’m happy to know that it contains HA, too. Though I don’t need it, Antioxidant Daily Face Protectant SPF 33 contains oil control ingredients. I’ve been wearing it as my daytime moisturizer for a few weeks, but it will be great for the hot weather too when I’m spending more time outdoors.

The Daily Face Protectant SPF 33 uses chemical sunscreen ingredients. For those of you who prefer physical sunscreen, Jan Marini Skin Research makes that too – Physical Protectant Broad Spectrum SPF 45, so check it out!

The tube of Daily Face Protectant SPF 33 contains 2 fl.oz./57 g and sold on its own at $51. I noticed that it also comes in a tinted version with SPF 33. The two product kit called Rejuvenate & Protect (C-Esta Face Serum & Daily Face Protectant SPF 33) is priced at $135.

I’m pleased that with my arsenal of Jan Marini skincare products my face is facing the new season in better shape as well as better protected from the sun and the damaging free-radicals! Because I’ve had good results so far with these four products, I’m eager to try some more. Jan Marini Skincare has several skincare products that address specific problems that I have:
