My New IT Cosmetics Purchases: No. 50 Serum & Bye Bye Redness

When Ulta had its 20% off coupon last month, I went into the store to look around.

On my list was a new sunscreen with SPF 50 from IT Cosmetics, Anti-aging Armour. I couldn’t find it at Ulta because it’s an exclusive at Sephora and on the IT Cosmetics website. Once I saw it, I realized it’s similar to the Exuviance Sunscreen with SPF 50 that I already own, so I passed on it.

No. 28 Serum Anti-aging Collagen Veil Primer

But when I was looking around Ulta, I came upon another newish product that’s also part of the Anti-aging Armour collection: No. 50 Serum. It was positioned as a hydrating primer and serum in one. Though I have several primers that I like, this one got my attention because it was both anti-aging skincare and a primer to wear under foundation. I pumped some out of the tester at Ulta, and I was in love. It is silky smooth but still lightweight. It made my skin feel like baby skin. Unlike the two Hourglass primers that I alternate between (No. 28 and Veil), this one feels like I’m getting actual skincare benefits. My skin and I love it!

Here’s how IT describes it:

“Includes 10 essential oils and butters, 10 nourishing botanicals, 30 fruit and plant-based extracts plus powerful antioxidants and vitamins including vitamin A, B5, brightening C & E! Peptides, hydrolyzed collagen, silk and niacin all work together for you all daylong, while hyaluronic acid provides a healthy drink of hydration your skin. Aloe, jojoba, licorice root, chamomile and colloidal oatmeal, just to name a few, offer a load of benefits including soothing and comforting your skin. Powerful antioxidants work to ward off free radicals and protect your skin from the environment to aid in the prevention of premature aging, keeping your skin luminous, supple and healthy looking! Paraben-free, talc- free, sulfate-free and cruelty-free.”

My only complaint is that this is an expensive anti-aging serum/primer. And it’s easy to use quite a bit of it. Over the past month, I’ve used about 25% of the bottle. I’ve gotta slow down.

So if money is no object, I strongly recommend this terrific multitasker. It’s got everything, it’s wonderful. It comes in a pump bottle, but they also give you a dropper in case you prefer that. $48 for 1 fl. oz.

Bye Bye Redness Neutralizing Correcting Cream

IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Redness box, neversaydiebeauty.com

While I was trying to decide about buying No. 50 Serum, one of the sales associates from IT Cosmetics was spending the day at my local Ulta to help shoppers with their IT questions and purchases. I asked her if IT had a good eye primer, and she suggested Bye Bye Redness. As you may remember, I’m always lamenting my red eyelids and crease, and I’m always trying to cover up my red skin. Bye Bye Redness seemed like it was the perfect antidote. Plus, the company SA said it was useable as an eye primer too.

I decided not to buy it that day, but to wait to use the $10 off coupon that I received from Ulta for my birthday (Ulta definitely has some great perks for Platinum Members!). But I thought about it, and I did go back with my coupon and I bought it.

So what do I think about it? Well, as usual when it comes to IT makeup, I’m not crazy about the color. The sole color available is Neutral Beige that’s supposed to be a universal shade, and I assume that it would work well for the vast majority. But as usual, for me, it’s a little dark and a little yellow, but if I cover it up, it’s OK.

IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Redness, open jar to show the shade Neutral Beige, neversaydiebeauty.com

When I apply it on my lid, crease and area slightly above the crease, it creases in the crease, lol, even though it’s not supposed to crease! So I have to rub it in again a few minutes after I first applied it and rubbed it in the first time.

Net, net, it’s a good base, but I’m not sure I love it as an eyeshadow primer. Somehow I don’t feel like eye shadows grab onto it and last as long as when I wear an actual eyeshadow primer. My opinion.

I have used it on my red cheeks and it does a good job, but truth be told, so does my foundation. I’ve tried it on my dark spots, and my thicker cream concealer from Judith August does a better job.

Here’s what IT says:

“Rich in anti-aging peptides, colloidal oatmeal, hydrolyzed collagen, aloe and avocado, it camouflages any red-toned skin discolorations including rosacea, broken capillaries, blemishes, skin irritations, sun damage, scars, age spots and more.”

I’ve considered returning it – I’ve got about a week more to decide – but I think I’ll probably keep it and use it primarily in the way it was designed for: as a correcting cream with an eye primer on top. I wish that IT would come out with a second lighter shade.

Bye Bye Redness is priced at $32 for 0.37 fl. oz.

Both of the products I bought are IT Cosmetics Best Sellers so they have a big following. They have tons of great ingredients, and they both feel great on my skin. I’m glad I got to try them both on sale. I know I won’t repurchase Bye Bye Redness, but I know I’d like to be able to repurchase No. 50 Serum because it’s so darn good!

Have you tried either of these products from IT Cosmetics? If so, what did you think? If not, do either of these interest you?

  1. Thanks so much Allison! I too was interested in the Bye Bye Redness for redness from sun damage around my eyes. The idea it could be a primer too was what caught my eye. After reading your review I think I will not purchase as I have many primers that would work better from your description of this product. It seems if you have to keep patting it on to make it stay, it may not last that long. I might also be interested in the Serum, but it is a hefty price for a small amount.

    1. Sandy, thanks for your comment. The color of the Bye Bye Redness was really a disappointment to me. In the store, the lighting is so weird that it didn’t look as dark as it is. And truth be told, I like my UD, Milani and Elizabeth Mott eyeshadow primers better. But the No. 50 Serum/Primer really is a wonderful serum/moisturizer/foundation primer. IT Cosmetics and sites like Dermstore that I think carries IT have sales fairly frequently. When IT has its next Friends & Family sale (usually with 25% off), I’ll buy another bottle – $36 seems more like it to me. So keep your eyes open! No. 50 is worth it xo

    1. The No. 50 Serum primer is all that, Shireen. Definitely worth buying during IT Cosmetics’ next Friends & Family sale – with their 25% discount, it’s worth it for sure 🙂

  2. I thought the same thing about the Bye Bye Redness. It’s a little cakey/creasy on my skin & the color dries to a different (unnatural) shade on my skin. I think my regular concealer works just as well, if not better.
It’s the first IT Cosmetics product I haven’t been impressed by.

    1. Kim, I’m glad you weighed in on the Bye Bye Redness and feel like I do about it. I thought I was swimming against the tide on this one. I don’t understand how they can call Neutral Beige a universal shade. They really need a lighter shade in the line up. And they make a big point about the consistency and how it never ever creases! Oh well, IT makes so many great products I guess they’re allowed to have one that isn’t a universal hit.

      1. I agree with my daughter, Kim, and you Allison. Not impressed by these two products for the price. Also, IT needs to start making their foundations in more shades.

        1. I agree about the foundations & CC cream – not enough options. I’m in between their Fair and Light and it’s a pain. The shades are too yellow for me oftentimes too which is a shame because I love the CC cream and the new solid cream foundation. The No. 50 Serum is a fabulous product though it is expensive. I am hoping the bottle will last me a while till either the next IT Friends & Family sale (25% off) or till I see it as part of a TSV on QVC where the great IT bargains are!

  3. The primer definitely looks like something I want to try. I love It products. I’ve started ordering some of them from QVC.com. I stumbled upon the fact that they sold them and sometimes they have kits that have free It brushes with your products. (They have nice brushes I think) QVC takes returns and will split the cost into payments. It works for me. I’m gonna see if they stock this. Thank you for the review!!

    1. Dawn, I forgot all about the great IT deals on QVC. I’m so glad you took the time to comment and mention it! I’ve bought a couple of the TSV from IT myself, and scored some great makeup and fabulous brushes. Plus the prices on QVC can’t be beat. Hopefully they’ll include No. 50 Serum in one of their sets sooner or later. Also, IT Cosmetics Friends & Family sale with 25% off is another good opportunity to buy it too. The primer/serum/moisturizer is lovely. I need it in supersize!

    1. You’re right, Judy! Foundations are so good at covering red these days what’s the point? I wish the shade of Bye Bye Redness was lighter so I could wear it on my lids and eye area on days when I don’t want to wear eyeshadow.

  4. I have the Bye Bye Redness and I’m very surprised that it was recommended as an e/s base. It’s too wet for that. I wish the color was different too.

    1. It does dry down but I have to wait for it to do so, plus it doesn’t have the slip that a real shadow primer has even though there is some dimethicone in it. I wish the color was lighter because I would really like to use it to cover my red lids and eye area on days when I’m not wearing eye shadow, but the color just is not “universal” 🙁

    1. The No. 50 Serum from IT really is good. I’m keeping my eyes peeled for a TSV with it on QVC or I’ll wait till the IT Friends & Family sale to replenish my supply

  5. I find it very interesting that the serum/primer is enriched with folic acid, something many people have to stay away from (MTHFR gene mutations). I honestly never thought to even look in my skin care to see if it was included. I have to stay away from synthetic folic acid, as my body doesn’t break it down, and prevents the absorption of real folate. Bummer too, because it sounds so nice!

    1. Yes, there are so many products to love from IT Cosmetics. I’d say it is one of my top brands – I probably own more IT stuff than anything else!
