The Return of My Favorite Skincare from Georgette Klinger

3 skincare products from Georgette Klinger, neversaydiebeauty.com

I’ve written nostalgically in the past about both the Georgette Klinger salons and their line of fabulous skincare products. Whenever I posted about Georgette Klinger, I got comments from women who found my posts when they were searching for info about the Georgette Klinger salons and skincare products. Like me, they never found as good a facial as at Georgette Klinger, and like me, they held on to Georgette Klinger skincare products that are now more than 10 years old as trophies or reminders of the good old days.

I couldn’t be happier now that Georgette Klinger skincare products are back! I wondered if they would be the same products I used to buy, and they are not. But the products have been modernized for today! They’re natural and they are made with wonderful plant-based ingredients. I’ve fallen in love all over again.

Over the past month or so, I’ve been trying out some skincare products from the new Georgette Klinger line. They’ve sort of kept the colors of old line in the packaging – white and peach. The packaging has been updated, but they still provide a tie to the past.

Georgette Klinger skincare products are cruelty-free, paraben-free, dye-free, and many are fragrance-free.

Let me tell you about the three products that I received.

GK 3x Makeup Remover

Georgette Klinger 3x Makeup Remover, neversaydiebeauty.com

The GK 3x Makeup Remover is different from all the makeup removers I’ve ever used. It’s a milky, thickish liquid made from cleansing oil that feels very gentle and hydrating. It does a good job removing my eye makeup and an excellent job removing foundation. I apply it to a cotton pad, and it sort of coats the makeup, dissolves it and takes it off leaving my skin feeling much more hydrated than liquid removers.

Because I’ve been using micellar water for a long time now, I must admit I’m still a micellar water fan because it works so darn fast: one cotton pad and I’m done. But I think this is a lovely, even more hydrating alternative. 4.2 oz./125 ml $18

Ingredients: Deionized Water, Squalane, Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil, Prunus Armeniaca (Apricot) Kernel Oil, Rosa Canina Fruit Oil, Propylene Glycol, Stearyl Alcohol, Glyceryl Stearate, Stearic Acid, Magnesium Aluminum Silicate, Triethanolamine, Caprylyl Glycol, Phenoxyethanol, Hexylene Glycol

GK Lavender Facial Mist

Georgette Klinger Lavender Facial Mist, neversaydiebeauty.com

Remember how I always said that I hate spraying myself in the face with mists? Well, with GK Lavender Facial Mist I can actually do it! This pump bottle provides such a microfine mist that I hardly mind it at all. And the subtle lavender scent makes me and my skin feel calm and hydrated. I love this facial mist! Even if you’re not a big lavender fan, I think you’d enjoy this mist because the scent whispers, not shouts. (I hear GK has a Coconut Facial Mist, too! That’s next on my to try list.)

In addition to lavender, GK Lavender Facial Mist contains ginseng (one of my favorite skincare ingredients) and aloe vera extracts. It has witch hazel in it, an ingredient that I love for toning my skin. It’s hydrating and calming and reviving all in one. Plus it’s great to either set your makeup or perk it up during a long day with a mist of moisture. I haven’t had a chance to try it yet this way coz I haven’t been traveling much lately, but I think it would be great to use before, after or during a long flight. From time to time, I enhance my calming nighttime routine by spraying a little on my pillowcase. Heavenly! 4.2 oz./125 ml. At $9, this mist is a true bargain!

Ingredients: Deionized Water, Aloe Barbadensis (Aloe) Leaf Juice, Propanediol, Propylene Glycol, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Flower Extract, Panax (Ginseng) Extract, Mentha Piperita (Peppermint) Extract, Hamamelis Virginiana (Witch Hazel) Extract, Caprylyl Glycol, Phenoxyethanol, Hexylene Glycol, Decyl Glucoside, Lauryl Glucoside, Citric Acid

GK Collagen & Elastin Moisturizer

Georgette Klinger Collagen & Elastin Moisturizer, neversaydiebeauty.com

I have about a million facial moisturizers, but I keep grabbing for GK Collagen & Elastin Moisturizer over and over again. It is a relatively lightweight white cream that comes in a pump bottle. Think the perfect weight for warm weather, for using over facial oils, and for all skin types. It absorbs instantly. Even though it is lighter weight compared to other moisturizers that I own, I will still be happy using Collagen & Elastin Moisturizer when the colder weather hits because it feels so hydrating on my skin.

Georgette Klinger describes the formula with the following: “Advanced Collagen and Elastin blend penetrates to rebuilt, strengthen and increase elasticity, visibly restoring skins resiliency to deliver a firmer tone and texture. Olive oil replenishes lost lipids and rejuvenates skin while Squalene strengthens the barrier to minimize moisture loss and reduce damaging dehydration, improving tone and texture for a glowing complexion.” Yes, I agree! It does seem to do all that for my skin.  🙂

Although I usually like unscented facial skincare products, GK Collagen & Elastin Moisturizer has a light sweet scent that I adore. In fact, that scent is one of the reasons why I enjoy using it so much! The scent is familiar but I can’t quite place it. Does that ever happen to you, you know what something is but you can’t quite name it? At any rate, the scent fades on contact but for those few seconds, it’s wonderful to just inhale!

I just received a new regimen of skincare from another brand to try out for review. And truth be told, I’m actually ticked off that I have to put aside my GK Collagen & Elastin Moisturizer for a month while testing the new skincare products.

1.7 oz./50 ml $34

Ingredients: Deionized Water, Soluble Collagen, Glyceryl Stearate SE, Stearic Acid, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Hydrolyzed Elastin, Squalene, C12-15 Alkyl Benzoate, Propanediol, Cetyl Alcohol, Sodium Hyaluronate, Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil, Caprylyl Glycol, Phenoxyethanol, Hexylene Glycol, Fragrance

Right now, Georgette Klinger skincare products are sold on the Georgette Klinger website where there’s free shipping over $35 and 3 samples with every order. Hop over and take a look. Years ago, they were sold in the Georgette Klinger salons located in major cities throughout the U.S., but I don’t think there are plans at this point to bring the spas back, boo hoo. Nevertheless, one step at a time!

Sometimes when you try something you loved in the past, it isn’t as wonderful. Well, my first venture back into the world of Georgette Klinger is a success! They definitely studied modern day skincare before reintroducing their iconic brand. I can hardly wait to discover more of their skincare line!

  1. Had never heard of Georgette Klinger products. Love it that you bring so many different products/lines to our attention. I wonder if this line will be hard to find here in West Michigan.

    1. Thank you, Sandy, for your specific comment about where to purchase!! How did I forget that information? I went back and edited the post. Years ago, Georgette Klinger had salons or spas in most of the major cities throughout the U.S. (not sure if there was one in Detroit). There were two in New York City in fact. I used to go to the one on Madison Avenue when I worked relatively nearby in advertising. When traveling on business, I treated myself to a facial at the salon in Houston, Dallas and Chicago. Now you have to buy their products on the Georgette Klinger website (georgetteklinger.com) where free shipping kicks in at $35. I wonder if someday they’ll reopen a salon in New York where the business started, but I don’t think there are plans to do so at this time. The estheticians most of whom were trained in Middle Europe were unparalleled!

      1. That’s great, Gaby! I haven’t had a chance to try the Volcanic Mineral Scrub from Georgette Klinger yet. But BTW, Hautelook is having a sale on Georgette Klinger skincare – I believe there are two more days to go. I’m thinking of trying the Coconut Toning Mist this time

        1. I REALLY like the Coconut Mist. The Coconut Cleanser is nice as well. I’m not crazy about the Green Tea Cleanser only because of its strong, perfume-y fragrance–as I’m sure you know, Miss Klinger deplored the use of fragrance in face products, which I think was an excellent policy. And while I still have some Makeup Remover 1, I REALLY miss Wash Off Cream 2 (it was kinda like Noxema on steroids). Not to mention my old standby, SD+N.

          1. Yes, Wash Off Cream was fab. I think my college roommate used SD+N. I bought the Coconut Mist during a sale around Christmas, and it’s waiting in the wings till I finish up the Lavender Mist.

          2. OMG those are the products I used when I went there for facials. Yes I wish they would recreate the Wash off Cream 1 AND 2!! Not sure why they can’t.

          3. Mary, I was a big fan of the Wash Off Creams too. They reminded me of a much better Noxzema. The new Georgette Klinger has completely reformulated the products putting more products in pumps rather than jars to increase the longevity, cleanliness and effectiveness of the products and using more natural and organic ingredients and taking out ingredients like parabens and mineral oils etc. to be a better match for what people are looking for in skincare today. I haven’t had a chance to try the Coconut Cleanser yet, but I’m impressed with the products I have tried. In fact, I bought my second bottle of the Collagen+Elastin Moisturizer and after just about finishing the very nice Lavender Mist, I bought the Coconut Mist to try. Have you bought any of the new GK products yet?

    1. No, I doubt that you could have known about it, Shireen. When they were in their heyday, you were probably a baby in the Far East, and Georgette Klinger spas and skincare were an American phenomenon. She had been an immigrant from central Europe around the time of WWII. The GK skincare products achieved cult status especially after the brand was sold and closed. Now thankfully, the family bought back the name and they have reformulated the products and introduced products that are right for today. As you can tell, I’m thrilled they’re back!

  2. Excellent review, Allison! I am sold! I don’t know how it is that I have never tried any of their products! That Collagen and Elastin Moisturizer looks like something that I would really love!

    1. To tell you the truth, the products are good but the originals were better. Heck, I’d be happy to get my hands on some original Noxema but I understand that whoever bought them out ruined it. And I never had a problem with the old Klinger creams because I used the little plastic spatulas religiously; I still use them for creams in jars.

I get the philosophy behind the resurrected Klinger line but fixing something that’s not broken never seems to work. And I’ve tried two of the sprays but have decided I don’t like either one. I’m now using Alteya Organics’ hydrosols instead—an excellent range of five substitutes for the old Klinger rose water spray.
I get the feeling the new line is kind of a well-intended work in progress. I hope it finds its way back to its roots. And incidentally, SD+N was a cleansing lotion, not a wash-off cream. Those were 1 and 2; I believe there were some gels as well (I only used 2). There was a rather large range of cleansing lotions at one point but quite a few of them were cut after a while.

      1. The original products were created primarily to be used in the salons on their customers who were coming in to get their skin in shape. Since there are no longer salons, GK’s new management developed new products geared toward today’s consumers who want cruelty-free, greener skincare products. I think you’re right, though, about the product line being a work in progress. They are competing with every other skincare brand out there, and I assume they will change their products somewhat frequently to keep up. I don’t think they will ever return to the old product line. I still have a few jars of old products that I don’t use coz they’re ancient, but I keep them as mementos. I miss the salons and the estheticians most – never found anyone as good as the GK ladies

  3. I love cleansing oil to removemy makeup. Their products sound promising, I should try them next. Great review as always

  4. There was a small store that did facials and massages in my area and I remember them using Georgette Klinger. It’s great to hear they are just as effective now as before.

    1. That’s so interesting, Marcia! I had never seen Klinger products anywhere besides their own salons. How cool! I was such a fan, so I am so thrilled they got the rights to their name back. At first I was disappointed that they didn’t re-release the old products, but after such a long time, it makes sense to reformulate and introduce new products for today.

    1. Yes, I was so excited that GK is back. In fact, every year or so, I’d check the internet to see if anything was happening. Glad for your mom that her brand came back too!

  5. OMG! I used to use Georgette Klinger! I felt like it was so much better than a certain colored door salon. Thanks for your post!

    1. Lynne, thank you so much for taking the time to let me know that you were a GK fan too! And I totally agree with you. Wish they would bring back the salons too, but I’m happy that they’ve relaunched the skincare brand. Everything is all new, but I’m impressed so far!

    1. Yes, it does, Kristina. My college roommate at Barnard was lucky enough to have her mother pay for her to go for facials and to get skincare products at the skincare salon on Madison Avenue. When I graduated from college, I saved up my money to go myself, and when I finally got a real job, I used to buy a series of facials and I would go every other month. The skincare products were unparalleled at the time. I was so sad when the family sold the brand. Big mistake. They finally got the name back, and I’m thrilled that they’re reinventing the skincare line for today’s needs and preferences.

    1. Haha, thank you, Betzy! Yes, I am interested in non-mainstream things. Georgette Klinger Salons and Skincare were well known in New York and major cities in the US from 1941 through about 2000. I was sad when the family sold the brand name, and I’m thrilled that they finally got it back and started relaunching new skincare products.

    1. Hi Kandi, Never Say Die Beauty is a beauty blog, not a manufacturer or retailer. I have purchased skincare products from GeorgetteKlinger.com, and they included samples with my purchase. As far as I know, they don’t send out free samples on their own. Good luck!

      1. They include samples with orders! A VERY nice company and their prices are competitive (as were those of the original line, which were on par with what was found in department stores).

        1. I don’t think I’ve tried quite as many products from the new line as you have, but I’ve been pleased with what I’ve tried so far. I love the Collagen+Elastin Moisturizer, and I like the Lavender Mist. I’m eager to open the Coconut Mist. I’ll put the Coconut Cleanser on my “to try” list, though I am drowning in cleansers right now. I’m very pleased that GK has resurfaced. Although I agree with you that the line is different for these different times (emphasis on natural ingredients), I am glad that it’s still an essentially no-frills, affordable skincare line. I hope someday that maybe they’ll open another salon, though I have moved from NYC. I wonder if miracle-worker aestheticians from Eastern Europe still exist like they did in the 70s-90s?
