L’Oreal Age Perfect Hydra Nutrition Golden Balm Eye Cream

I’m a big fan of L’Oreal Revitalift Eye Cream Anti-Wrinkle + Firming, and I’ve been using it for years.

A couple of years ago, I started seeing the ad campaign with Diane Keaton for the Age Perfect product line, and I thought maybe those products, targeted to older women, might be the “big guns” of the L’Oreal product line. I decided to give one of the eye creams, L’Oreal Age Perfect Hydra Nutrition Golden Balm Eye Cream, a try because I have been looking for an eye cream that will help firm my eye area.

The L’Oreal website describes the product as follows:

  • Diminishes puffiness & dark circles
  • Redensifies & illuminates eye area
  • Skin’s moisture level surges

With age, skin in the delicate eye area becomes dry, thin and less resilient, resulting in the appearance of crow’s feet, puffiness and dark circles. Enriched with calcium and precious oils, this butter-soft golden balm redensifies and illuminates the eye area. With micro-fine nutrients, skin’s support structure is strengthened with renewed firmness and radiance.

Instantly: Skin’s moisture level surges, penetrating deep below skin’s surface.
1 month: Skin’s elasticity in the eye area is restored, diminishing puffiness and dark circles.

    • Dermatologist tested for gentleness
    • Ophthalmologist tested
    • Fragrance-free

First opening the jar of L’Oreal, I saw a pretty, golden cream. So far, so good. But it’s a very, very, very thick, heavy cream. I like thick, but this is too thick for me. With this cream, you must pat it on, otherwise it pulls the skin as you try to get it to absorb. Also, with time, the cream seems to thicken even more in the jar, making it even more difficult to apply.

I thought maybe the thick cream would act like spackle to firm up the loose skin above my eye lid, but no such luck. I believe in finishing things up, and it’s taking me forever to use this cream up. The “elasticity” benefit I was hoping for did not happen. I will not repurchase.

L’Oreal comes in a 0.5 oz./14 g jar. I bought mine at CVS, and it’s widely available at drugstores, mass merchandisers, and many websites in case any of you want to give it a try and prove me wrong. The MSRP is $19.99, though I’m sure I paid less than that. The product is made in the U.S.

Note: After panning this product, I feel funny mentioning this, but I saw it on sale at Walgreens for $5.99. So, if you are looking for a heavyweight eye cream, head to Walgreens to the “impulse” products at Beauty Counter cash register.

  1. I tried the Age Perfect day cream and night cream a year or so ago and was also unimpressed. Too greasy and heavily perfumed for me then, although the formulations may have changed since then….. FWIW

    1. That’s very interesting, Kim. The Golden Balm Eye Cream has definitely made me suspicious of the whole line

    1. Dima, the first L’Oreal product, the Revitalift, is very good. The Age Perfect (that you are much too young for) is not so good, too thick!

    1. Thanks for visiting and taking the time to comment, Nelly! I’m glad you had good results with the Golden Balm Eye Cream. It was too thick for me, if I remember correctly, so it didn’t penetrate at all. I’m wondering if I got a bad jar? I’ve moved on. Lately I’ve been using the L’Oreal Volume Filler Eye Cream that’s actually more of a gel plus it comes in a tube that I prefer. It’s definitely worth a look!
