Now that the holidays are here, we all want our hair to look its best. A great cut and, for some of us, fresh color give us a boost of confidence during party season. But taking care of our hair with a great shampoo, conditioner and oils on a regular basis are the backbone of having healthy, shiny hair that always looks good.

A few weeks ago, I was introduced to a new-to-me haircare brand: HairRx Advanced Hair Care. Their products are professional quality, salon-tested haircare that is sulfate-free (perfect for my color-treated hair), paraben-free and cruelty-free.

What’s so different and appealing about HairRx is that it’s customized haircare – haircare that you curate especially for your needs and tastes. There are 12 shampoo formulas, 9 conditioner formulas and 5 scents. You take a short online survey to help you choose the formula that’s right for your hair.

Basically, you choose the benefit that your hair needs most:

  • strengthening
  • hydrating
  • frizz-taming
  • volumizing
  • nourishing
  • curl-defining
  • shine-restoring
  • thickening
  • revitalizing.

That benefit – I chose Revitalizing – is the formula for both the shampoo and conditioner.

Next, you choose the scent:

  • citrus
  • jasmine
  • vanilla
  • lavender
  • coconut.

Although it was a difficult choice because I like so many of the scents, I selected coconut.

Finally, there are two lather options:

  • Light lather
  • Luxurious lather.

Somehow I got light lather, though I must have goofed because I’m a luxurious lather kind of gal. But no biggie.

HairRx also makes other haircare treatment and styling products, too:

  • Surf Spray
  • Glossing Mist
  • Nourishing Oil
  • Curl Conditioner
  • Revive & Protect Mist
  • Volumizing Spray.

I chose Nourishing Oil.

I received two boxes: one with the Shampoo and Conditioner Set and one with the Nourishing Oil. Truth be told, I could hardly wait to try the new products, so I used them right away.

Professional Revitalizing Shampoo with Coconut Scent

First, the coconut scent of the rich, translucent shampoo is divine! It smells like natural coconut rather than a fake scent. I just love it!

The shampoo is a low lather formula, but it makes enough lather so that I feel that it’s doing its job. And it’s easy to wash out. I’m one of those weirdos that like to feel a little squeak after rinsing, and I get that with this shampoo.

Shampoo benefits promised include:

  • designed to help lifeless, over processed hair
  • smooths and strengthen hair cuticle
  • prevents breakage while combing.

The ingredients differ by formula. These are the ingredients for the Revitalizing Shampoo: Aqua (water), Laureth-5 Carboxylic Acid, Disodium Laureth Sulfosuccinate, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetate, Sodium Lauroyl Methyl Isethionate, Sodium Methyl Cocoyl Taurate, Peg-18 Glyceryl Oleate/cocoate, Yucca Schidigera Leaf/root/stem Extract, Citrus Nobilis (mandarin Orange) Peel Extract, Linum Usitatissimum (linseed) Seed Extract, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Coco-glucoside, Sodium Dodecylbenzenesulfonate, Panthenol, Glycerin, Glycol Distearate, Glyceryl Oleate, Laureth-4, Polyquaternium-7, Trideceth-10, Sodium Benzoate, Dimethiconol, Gluconolactone, Phenoxyethanol, Citral, Citronellol, Linalool, Limonene, Fragrance.

Professional Revitalizing Conditioner with Coconut Scent

The Conditioner also has the same natural coconut scent that I love in the Shampoo.

The Conditioner is a very thick, rich formula. In fact, my only complaint about anything to do with the products that I’ve tried is that it is difficult to squeeze the conditioner out of the plastic bottle top. I invert it and squeeze hard, but I find it tough to get the conditioner out of the small hole. Instead of the attractive silver and black top (I’m not exactly sure what you call this), I wish it were a pump bottle. So, what I do is unscrew the top and squeeze out as much conditioner as I need.

I squeeze out the excess water from my hair and then apply the conditioner and work it through from roots to ends. I leave it on for a few minutes while I shave my legs. Then I rinse it out.

The conditioner benefits include:

  • nourishing, protecting and moisturizing
  • ingredients, Baobab, Shea Butter and Avocado Oil, chosen for their richness give new life to dull or brittle hair
  • revives hair and unlocks hair’s natural beauty.

Revitalizing Conditioner Ingredients: Aqua (water), Cetearyl Alcohol, Bassia Butyracea Seed Butter, Behentrimonium Chloride, Persea Gratissima (avocado) Oil, Butyrospermum Parkii (shea Butter), Passiflora Edulis Seed Oil, Oryza Sativa (rice) Bran Oil, Euterpe Oleracea Fruit Oil, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Citrus Nobilis (mandarin Orange) Peel Extract, Linum Usitatissimum (linseed) Seed Extract, Adansonia Digitata Seed Oil, Panthenol, Helianthus Annuus (sunflower) Seed Oil, Rosmarinus Officinalis (rosemary) Leaf Extract, Sodium Dodecylbenzenesulfonate, Trideceth-10, Dimethiconol, Glycerin, Polyquaternium-37, Phenoxyethanol, Gluconolactone, Sodium Benzoate, Linalool, Limonene, Citronellol, Citral, Fragrance.

Professional Nourishing Oil

HairRx Nourishing Oil pump bottle, neversaydiebeauty.com

The color-safe Professional Nourishing Oil is a clear, uncolored oil with a soft floral scent. It comes in a handy pump bottle. I towel dry my hair and apply a small amount from roots to ends. The lightweight oil is a combination of natural oils, and a little goes a long way.

Nourishing Oil helps:

  • tame frizz (it has dimethicone so it leaves hair feeling silky)
  • adds moisture
  • adds shine
  • repairs damage.

Nourishing Oil contains 3.4 fl. oz. and is priced at $22.

IngredientsCyclopentasiloxane, Dimethiconol, Dimethicone, Raphanus Sativus (Radish) Seed Oil, Moringa Oleifera Seed Oil, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Argania Spinosa Kernel Oil, Bertholletia Excelsa Seed Oil, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract, Linalool, Limonene, Citronellol, Citral, Geraniol, Parfum (Fragrance).

Final Thoughts

I’m very pleased with HairRx. My hair feels soft, silky and manageable.

me after using HairRx Revitalizing Shampoo and Conditioner, neversaydiebeauty.com

I had a difficult time choosing which formula to try, but Revitalizing seems to be a good choice for me. I might try Hydrating next time to see if there’s a difference. I adore the Coconut scent, but I’d also love to try Citrus! I think it’s fun to mix and match benefits and scents. This is an interesting concept. I think it’s great that you can choose from 9 different formulas and 5 different scents for your Shampoo and Conditioner. You can change the formula according to what your hair needs at the time, and change up the scent according to your mood.

Check out the HairRx website to study the different formulas for yourself as well as to see their extensive product line. You can purchase the Shampoo and Conditioner separately ($15 each) or together as a set for $24. The full size bottles contain 10 fl. oz.  They also come in 2 f. oz. Travel Size bottles for $8. The treatment and styling products are individually priced. You can get a promo code for 30% off your first purchase on the HairRx website!

    1. It was a difficult choice for me because I would have like frizz-taming or the hydrating. If I buy them myself, I could buy one formula for the shampoo and a different one for the conditioner, e.g. frizz-taming.

  1. I want to customize my hair care! That sounds fun! I also like the price. I figured it would be much more. Your hair looks great!

  2. I bought this set from QVC loved it,my hair is looking great I even skipped my last app for color and cut, and I have red color on mine plus blonde highlights, my only problem with this was that the shampoo was a little too runny for me,I have very thick course wavy hair, this has really helped a lot, I went to order another set ,and they weren’t even selling it , took me awhile to find this site ,I’ve got to have more, I don’t want to be without this

    1. Elizabeth, don’t you hate it when you fall in love with a product and it is discontinued? Hair RX Advanced Hair Concepts launched in 2017, I believe, and they started selling on QVC in 2018. Did you buy the set from QVC within the past year or so? Hair RX doesn’t seem to be in business any longer. My review was written/posted in December 2017, 4 and a half years ago. A lot of businesses especially small, indie brands, went out of business during the pandemic because of supply chain issues – they couldn’t get ingredients that they needed. Maybe that was what happened to Hair RX?? I thought their concept was an interesting one, but customization requires a lot of consumer touch points and lots of inventory. Looking online for it now, I only see random products on sale on eBay. However, there is a bottle of Hair RX All-in-One Hair Perfecting Formula for sale on Amazon for about $5 here: https://amzn.to/3s15H4F The Hair RX “store” on Amazon still has a page/area but all of the products are currently unavailable. How sad, Elizabeth! I am and have been using the Olaplex line for the past 2+ years, and I am very happy with it though I still use JOICO K-PAK Hair Treatment as conditioner for my thick, coarse hair. I hope you can find another brand that you like as much as Hair RX!
