OWN Refining Moisture Night Cream

For years, I was true to my favorite moisturizer/night cream. It did a great job, was readily available, and affordable. I still really like it, but since becoming a blogger I have discovered other wonderful moisturizers. OWN Refining Moisture Night Cream is one that I’ve been cheating on Olay Regenerist with lately.

I “bought” OWN Refining Moisture Night Cream (http://bit.ly/VXs0FI to learn more) from iFabbo, a site for beauty bloggers to post reviews and get hints and help on developing a successful blog. I used the iFabbo “currency” that I accrued to buy the night cream, so it can be considered a product distributed for promotional purposes.

First, a word about the company. OWN Skin Health is a San Francisco-based brand that focuses on ingredients from natural sources and products without harsh chemicals. A number of their products including this one contain “patented CLA technology” (Conjugated Linoleic Acid). On the “scientific-looking” simple outer box, CLA is described as: “plant-based technology designed to work with your body’s unique biochemistry and three main layers of skin”.

Previously, I have written about OWN Lifting Eye Cream and the company’s iphone app that’s supposed to measure product performance. I liked the eye cream, so I thought I’d give the night cream a try. Glad I did.

OWN Refining Moisture Night Cream comes in a jar, a modern looking jar. Now I know that’s a deal-breaker for some of you, but I actually prefer moisturizer in a jar. I wash my face with cleanser or even occasionally with Dove soap, so my hands get washed, too. Sometimes I use a makeup removing towelette, but call me obsessive, I still wash my face with water and cleanser afterwards. That said, I have no problem putting my finger in the jar. It’s clean. Or on rare occasion, if I’m sick, I’ll use a disposable plastic or wooden paddle or spoon to scoop out a little moisturizer. OK, enough of my rant.

OWNBOX

Now for the product review. I love this light to medium weight moisturizer. It is sooooo much lighter than my regular moisturizer, but it still feels moisturizing, like it’s doing its job.

OWN night cream drop

It absorbs quickly. Amazing. It dries to a slight feeling of tightness which is actually a nice feeling. Unlike my regular night cream, it doesn’t feel like it’s sitting on top of my skin, it feels like it’s working inside the layers of my skin. I don’t know if that’s what it’s doing, but that’s what it feels like. Maybe it really is working with the dermis, the epidermis and whatever the third layer of skin is called!

The moisturizer has a light, faint but fresh scent that I really like.

Like the eye cream, OWN Refining Moisture Night Cream uses its outer box to present data on effectiveness and to make claims about the product. Here are the claims:

  • boosts collagen for firmer and fuller-looking skin
  • enhances cell turnover for a more even skin tone
  • reduction in the appearance of crow’s feet and wrinkles in the eye area
  • a strengthened skin moisture barrier resulting in more moisturized skin, that silky and smooth.

Frankly, I wasn’t really using the Night Cream on and around my eyes because I’m still using the OWN Lifting Eye Cream. Other than the fact that I’m exhausted from flying to Chicago, Portland OR, LA, Charlotte, and Houston in a month, my skin looks and feels good. I like the OWN Refining Moisture Night Cream a lot!

The product MSRP is $24.99 for 1.7 oz/48 g, but I saw Own Refining Moisture Night Cream on Amazon last night for $20.21 plus a 15% off coupon. You can purchase it through OWN’s website where you can sometimes find a $5 off coupon, at drugstore.com, amazon.com, other websites, and at Whole Foods. I love Ulta, and the OWN product line is now available at the stores (don’t forget about the Ulta coupons) and on their website where it’s currently on sale for $21.24.

Other good things to know about the product include:

  • RETINOL-FREE formula, No irritation or redness, Dermatologist tested, gentle
  • Paraben and Sulfate-free
  • Not tested on animals
  • Vegan
  • Fragrance-free
