IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Foundation

I think that’s how I feel about IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Foundation.

When I saw that IT’s new Bye Bye Foundation Full Coverage Moisturizer SPF 50+ had a somewhat expanded shade range that included the new shade “Fair Light”, I was so excited. It is described as for “fair skin with cool pink undertones”. It actually looked and sounded like Fair Light would be a good match for me, and I would no longer have to buy both Fair and Light and mix the shades of the CC Cream.

During IT Cosmetics 25% off sale during April, I decided to give it a go. So how did it work for me?

Let’s start with the pluses.

  • Fair Light is a decent match. Like all the IT Cosmetics foundation products, it’s still a tad yellow for my pink skin tone in spite of the description, but it’s acceptable. Here’s how it looks on my cool-toned skin unblended, partially blended, and blended.

  • The coverage is excellent. It really is a full coverage foundation.
  • It’s nice to have SPF 50+.
  • It’s described by IT Cosmetics as a skincare product with color that is “designed to help cover and improve the look of skin concerns including redness, pores, dark spots, breakouts, lines and wrinkles”. So it’s not a “traditional foundation”.

Now for the minus.

What bugs me about it is one of the issues I have with the CC Cream: it’s too heavy and greasy looking. In fact, I think you can see the glossiness/greasiness in the swatches of Bye Bye Foundation above.

But in the photo below, it doesn’t look as bad/greasy as it has other times I’ve worn it. Nevertheless, you can see some of the shine on my cheeks and chin, and I usually have super dry skin. How could anyone with oily or even combination skin use this product?

I have tried applying it with a blending sponge or with a slant kabuki brush, and one method is not superior to the other in terms of reducing the shine or heaviness.

Because this new product is called “Foundation” instead of CC Cream, I was hoping it would have a different and lighter consistency, but IMO it doesn’t. Frankly, I’m not sure what the difference is between Bye Bye Foundation and the CC Cream.

I have been trying to apply as little as possible and see if that helps, but it really doesn’t make a difference. Setting it with powder helps a bit, but then I’m wearing powder on top of a heavy-feeling foundation.

Although I’m a big fan of a number of IT Cosmetics products (No. 50 Primer Serum, Confidence In A Cream etc.), I’m less and less a fan of their foundations. I’ve found many other lighter weight full coverage foundations that I prefer. Nevertheless, I’ll continue to use Bye Bye Foundation, but it certainly isn’t becoming my favorite.

Bye Bye Foundation contains 1 fl. oz./30 ml and is priced at $39.50. It comes in 12 shades from Fair to Deep, in more shades than they’ve offered previously though still not as many as they are supposedly working on for the future.

Have you tried Bye Bye Foundation? How does it work for you? Do you have any tips for me?

  1. Allison, I am in total agreement with you about the IT products (‘foundation’ and CC cream). I have aging skin that has gotten more fragile as I’ve aged. Sometimes I need something soothing and gentle with minimal coverage, but sadly, these products offer nothing. I agree they tend to be heavy and greasy. The colors offered don’t work for my fair-ish, ivory-ish skin tone. And these are not inexpensive. Love your blog!

    1. Thank you, Donna, for weighing in. I’m sorry they don’t suit you either, but I’m glad to know I’m not the only one who feels this way. My favorite foundation these days is Hourglass Hyaluronic Skin Tint, though pricey it’s full coverage, very hydrating but it doesn’t look or feel heavy and greasy. I also will be reviewing a new to Sephora foundation next week.

  2. Yikes! What a disappointment, Allison and thank you for the honest review, I’l stick to the CC Cream. Have you tried the new MUFE Ultra HD Skin Tint Foundation? I am tempted to buy but it’s not available in Sephora Canada yet.

    1. If you like IT’s CC Cream, Shireen, you may very well like Bye Bye Foundation. There are more shades available which is a plus. I find both the CC Cream and Bye Bye Foundation to be equally heavy and greasy, but maybe it’s just me. I haven’t tried the new MUFE Ultra HD Skin Tint Foundation, but their Ultra HD Foundation in both the liquid and the stick are among my absolute favorites.

  3. Good to know! I have their original liquid foundation, and I usually feel that I need to mix it with another foundation to lighten it up, both texture-wise and color-wise. My skin is warmer-toned than yours is, but I still find their colors to be to yellow or orange for me, and their products tend to be greasy, I agree. Thanks for the review. I’ve been thinking about trying one of their newer formulas (they seem to be introducing new ones all the time!) but will hold off for now.

    1. I have never seen IT’s original liquid foundation, Kim! I would hold off on this one. My favorite foundation for the past several months is Hourglass Hyaluronic Skin Tint, a mousse-like foundation that feels so light on. I also have another foundation that’s new to Sephora that has surprised me – I’ll review it next week

      1. I goofed–it’s the CC cream that I have. And it’s the thickest, greasiest CC cream I’ve ever seen! It’s an OK foundation, but the comments about regarding the texture and color range still stand.

        1. I feel the same way, Kim. When I first started using the IT CC Cream, I liked it because it provided such good coverage and has that high SPF. But after a while, I discovered other CC creams and foundations that are not nearly that heavy and greasy. I would rather have a better looking, more comfortable foundation with a lower SPF rather than look like a grease ball. If you don’t like the IT CC cream, you wouldn’t like the Bye Bye Foundation either IMO. My favorite CC Cream is from Lumene. I think it was SPF 30. I get it at CVS, and occasionally I have found it at Ocean State Job Lot!

  4. This definitely sounds like a miss for you, and given that I have normal/combination skin, and prefer lightweight formulas with light to medium coverage– this sounds as though it would be a miss for me as well!

    1. If you prefer lightweight foundations with light to medium coverage, this wouldn’t be good for you either. As much as the coverage is great for me, it’s too greasy. I’m wondering how those who like it wear it??

  5. Disaopointing, as my skin gets oilier as the weather gets warmer. I love the CC Cream, but I use a translucent powder to set it because I hate how “wet” it stays without it, but it truly is my Holy Grail of any foundation I’ve ever used/tried, which is why I was hopeful about this. I just don’t think I need this in my arsenal. Thanks for the thorough review!!!

    1. Judy, if you’re a fan of the CC Cream, you will probably like this foundation. Over the years, I have pretty much given up on the IT CC cream (although I have a tube waiting in the wings) because it’s too heavy and greasy for me. But if you’ve figured out how to make IT foundations work, you should try it. The shade range is a step in the right direction.

  6. I think this foundation is the one in the upcoming TSV. I was going to buy the set from QVC to get the foundation but I probably won’t now. It doesn’t look good on you and that’s super disappointing. Are you able to return it?

    1. I bought Bye Bye Foundation from the IT website so I won’t return it. If I had bought it at Ulta nearby, I would have returned it. I hate to tell you not to buy it. If you like the formula of the IT CC Cream, then you might like this. I just can’t figure out how to avoid the greasy look and feeling on my skin, other than powder afterwards.

    1. IT Cosmetics has so many other wonderful products. I just think they need to come out with some lighter weight, much less greasy foundations in a better range of shades.

  7. I haven’t tried IT Cosmetics foundation. I’m always so scared to try new shades/brands because my skin is so fair. I need like a professional color matcher to follow me around. 🙂

    1. Kristi, if you are very fair, you should check out Courtney’s recommendations on Phyrra.net. She’s got a Pale Girl’s Guide to Foundations that seems pretty terrific.

  8. P.S. What is the lipstick shade you’re wearing in the photo? You always wear the most beautiful shades!

    1. Kim, I think it’s either Rimmel Moisture Renew shade Coral Garden #230 or Tarte Lip Sculptor, shade Sass – I can’t quite tell from the photo which one it is 😉 but I wear those two a lot. The Rimmel is a tad more peachy and the Tarte is a mauve

    1. Actually maybe not. I found Bye Bye Foundation to be really heavy and greasy. In spite of its high SPF, I think it would be uncomfortable to wear in the summer.

  9. It does look quite heavy and greasy just swatched on your hand, so I can only imagine how it feels on the face! I don’t really understand why It would make a “moisturizer” with full coverage. What does that even mean? Is it just a foundation with skincare ingredients? I feel like this is a very basic foundation with just a marketing twist to make it sound new and innovative.

    1. In person, it looks heavy and greasy on my hand and on my face, lol. IT Cosmetics likes makeup that’s “skincare with benefits” but it doesn’t always make for the best makeup experience. To me, this new foundation is almost identical to their CC cream but with a few more shade choices.

  10. I’ve been using this and I have mixed feelings about it. I can’t find a huge difference between this and the regular CC cream. I apply a tiny amount and I don’t find it to be too heavy on my skin, but that all comes down to preference. It sucks that it didn’t work out for you! It Cosmetics truly needs to get it together with the shade range. They need more shades and more undertones.

    1. Thank you, Anastasia xo In real life, I think I look like a greaseball! This foundation was a fail for me. Fortunately, I have others that I love. I still love IT Cosmetics products but their foundations, not so much.

    1. Yes, the color match of Fair Light from IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Foundation is finally a good one for me. I just wish I liked the foundation itself and the finish better 🙁
