I haven’t bought any drugstore makeup in a long time, but the CVS Extrabucks and 30% off coupon were burning a hole in my pocket. Not sure what attracted me to the Maybelline Color Sensational Shine Compulsion Lipstick (whew, what a long name!). It was probably the rose gold case that did it. The rose gold doesn’t show up as well as I thought in this photo, sorry.

Also, oil-based lipsticks seem to be having a moment, and my dry lips were curious about it. What’s unusual about it is that the oil-in-stick formula is not specifically for hydration, it’s to create a brilliant shine. Interesting.

The lipstick is insanely easy to apply. I get full coverage in one swipe. Because of the oil, I surmise, it literally glides on. I haven’t been using a lipstick pencil because it stays put. No feathering, no migrating.

It has no noticeable fragrance.

It feels very hydrating on my lips for at least a couple of hours. It’s definitely a comfortable to wear lipstick. Initially, it looks very shiny.

After a few hours, I find that the color fades a bit – this is not a long-wearing matte lipstick, after all – but my lips still look like I am wearing lipstick. It’s so easy to reapply, I don’t mind a bit.

I bought #065 Spicy Mauve, and I think it’s a good everyday shade for me. It comes in 10 mostly MLBB shades, though there are a couple of reddish shades and a purple berry. Browns seem to reign in the current selection.

CVS was offering $5 cash back on the purchase of two Maybelline products. Wish I had picked up two of them especially with the 30% off! The price is normally around $7.99 depending on where you buy it. At Ulta, they’re buy one, get one half off. Good deal.

I really like Maybelline Color Sensational Shine lipstick. Have you tried it yet?

  1. I avoid drugstore lipstick because I’m always concerned about the fragrance but if this isn’t really fragranced then I’ll take a look at the display. Pretty shade for you.

    1. Thank you, Marcia. No the Maybelline Color Sensational Shine Lipstick doesn’t have any discernible scent, thankfully no melon, no floral scent.

    1. I don’t know, Cindy, if the Maybelline Color Sensational Shine has the same formula as the L’Oreal. The Maybelline has oil in it, and that’s why it applies like a dream. It isn’t long lasting, but it is nicely shiny and very comfortable to wear.

  2. I hardly ever buy makeup from the drugstore but I always peruse the aisles! this color really looks great on you.

  3. This is a nice shade, I’m so in to the Matte liquids tho! I like that they don’t transfer and I try to always have a reusable water bottle by my side so lipsticks that transfer don’t work!

  4. I picked up Spicy Mauve along with 3 other shades! After extra bucks & coupons I only paid $6! I can’t wait to try them when I get back from vacation.

  5. This shade is so pretty! I’m not in the market for new makeup right now (boo!!!!), but I will definitely have to get at least this one when I am shopping again!

    1. I need to be on a no-buy myself, Jen. But if you are trying out new drugstore lipsticks, remember Maybelline Color Sensational Shine Lipstick – it is really a good one!
