A few weeks ago, I reviewed Hydroxatone BB Cream, a product that I really liked. So I was happy to have a chance to try another Hydroxatone product, Hydroxatone AM/PM Anti-Wrinkle Complex, provided from iFabbo, the beauty and fashion blogger organization.
On the front of the box, it says that Hydroxatone AM/PM Anti-Wrinkle Complex SPF 15 is for “day and night” use. You certainly can use it anytime, if you wish, but I don’t like to use products with SPF at night. I think, why put the extra chemicals on my skin?
Again the box states that Hydroxatone AM/PM Anti-Wrinkle Complex is a “moderate sun protection product with SPF 15”. I usually look for a product with SPF 30. For sun protection, Hydroxatone AM/PM Anti-Wrinkle Complex SPF 15 contains octinoxate, octocrylene, and oxybenzone. These days, I try to use products that provide broad spectrum UVA/UVB protection, and ingredients that give that broad protection are avobenzone, titanium dioxide, zinc oxide, Mexoryl SX — none of which are in this product. That said, you may be putting yourself at risk for sun damage and wrinkles using this product as your sunscreen.
Another key product claim on the box is: “Hydroxatone AM/PM Anti-Wrinkle Complex is a unique formula that is proven to help reduce the appearance of a wide range of wrinkles and improve the overall appearance of the skin.” I have only been using this product for a couple of weeks, so I can not say anything definitive about whether or not it reduced the appearance of wrinkles on my skin. The anti-wrinkle formula seems to consist of the SPF as well as sodium hyaluronate and peptides Matrixyl 3000 and Argirelene, very good ingredients that are found in other moisturizers.
Where Hydroxatone AM/PM Anti-Wrinkle Complex excels is as a moisturizer, and a good moisturizer that plumps the skin reduces the appearance of wrinkles. Hydroxatone Anti-Wrinkle Complex is a very emollient, thick cream with shea butter and many plant-derived extracts. I have dry skin, and I found the product to be very thick; though once applied, it definitely soaks in. Nevertheless, I believe it may be too thick for women with oily and even combination skin. Even for myself, I may save this for winter use when I look for a heavy moisturizer. And the SPF 15 may be enough for winter since I’m not outdoors for long periods of time.
Hydroxatone AM/PM Anti-Wrinkle Complex SPF 15 comes in a beautiful blue jar with a silver top. I love the way it looks. Definitely a jar you can leave out on the counter. Also, I like moisturizers in jars because I find them convenient. However, I have recently learned that a drawback to jars is that once opened, the ingredients can degrade when exposed to the air and bacteria on the fingers (so use a clean paddle to scoop it out or make sure your hands are very clean and don’t double dip).
Hydroxatone products including Hydroxatone AM/PM Anti-Wrinkle Complex SPF 15 are now available at Ulta stores, so you can always stop in and try it out for yourself. It’s also available at a number of online sources including hydroxatone.com, ulta.com, drugstore.com, beauty.com, hsn.com, dermstore.com, skinstore.com, and bjs.com. The MSRP is $69.95 for 1 oz./30g, but I have seen it for quite a bit less.

If you are gluten-free, you will have to check on the source of the Tocopherol Acetate.

Good review! I’d probably pass on this product as I also don’t used spf products in the evening and I’m an oily skin gal, so this wouldn’t work for me in the day.
I have wanted to try the Hydroxatone line of products though so will keep them in mind 🙂
