Project Pan Beauty Empties April 2019

After such huge months of empties in January, February and March, I have fewer empties for April. But I still have enough that I know I’ll achieve my goal of 100 empties before the end of the year.

This month, I have a number of products that I’m tossing because they’re expired or old or because I don’t really like them.

Let’s do the empties first.

Bath and Body Products

  • 2 tubs of Humboldt Soap Co. Body Mousse, Blackberry Coconut and Hot Chocolate Mocha. You know I adore this body mousse. I have gone through 4 and a half tubs of it so far. It is delightful to apply and so hydrating without leaving any greasiness. And the scents are absolutely lovely. Every time I wore Blackberry Coconut, people would ask me what fragrance I was wearing! I need more of this! Repurchase? Yes. I have to finish up my last tub, but Arice from HSC has told me that she will be introducing new scents. Also, she is in the process of introducing refill packs for many of her products made from Compostable Cellulose Bags. So I will hang on to my two empty tubs and refill them when the Body Mousse cellulose bags are available. BTW, Humboldt Soap Company is having a 20% off sale till May 8!
  • SebaMed Liquid Face & Body Wash: I really liked SebaMed pH balanced facial cleanser and body wash for sensitive skin. I kept this large plastic pump bottle in my shower, and I used it everyday to wash my face. I sometimes used it as a gentle body wash. My bottle of SebaMed had a light fragrance that smelled sort of like baby products, though there is a fragrance-free option. It’s good, no-nonsense, gentle skin and body care. Repurchase? Not right now because I have three bottles or tubes of facial cleanser waiting in the wings, but I will buy it again in the future.
  • South of France Natural Body Care Bar Soap, Cherry Blossom travel size: The South of France Natural Body Care travel size natural soap with organic ingredients was lovely. The Cherry Blossom scent is wonderful, natural-smelling, light not overpowering, and the scent lasted in the soap bar till it was finished. The soap is hydrating but not greasy. With my soap saver, it did not disappear in my shower. Repurchase? I am now using the Violet travel size, and then I have a few full size bars to use. I’m psyched!
  • Farmhouse Fresh Hydrating Lip Balm, Blackberry Crush: This Blackberry Crush FHF Hydrating Lip Balm was my very favorite stick balm. I loved the Blackberry Crush flavor/scent. And it works so well. Repurchase? I will ultimately but I still have some of the FHF Lip Balm in Whoopie left.
  • Character Skincare Not a Drag Body Balm: I loved this natural, organic, CF, easy to use stick of body balm. First, it smelled fantastic: like chocolate orange because some of the key ingredients were cocoa butter and sweet orange. I used it every night to keep my feet nice and soft. Repurchase? Again, not now because I have two other body balm sticks that were waiting in the wings. However, Character Skincare makes top notch skincare products.

Makeup

  • Hourglass Illusion Hyaluronic Skin Tint SPF 15, shade Vanilla: I bought this foundation on the recommendation of a sales associate at Sephora, and I have not been the least bit disappointed. Though the name “Skin Tint” is a misnomer, it is a wonderful just about full coverage, very hydrating foundation that’s perfect for dry skin like mine. It’s especially wonderful in the cold weather. It feels comforting, velvety but not heavy on my skin. I’m a big fan. Repurchase? Yes, I did.
  • Lola Lipstick, shade Petunia: I bought this gorgeous lipstick a long time ago at Sephora. Sadly, Sephora doesn’t carry the brand anymore, but Lola Cosmetics still exists online. This lipstick had the most wonderful packaging. I loved the square shape, the deep red color, and most of all the mirror on the flip side of the cap. Just wonderful. Repurchase? Yes, I will! Lola unfortunately changed the color of the packaging to black, but it still has the mirror inside the cap. Although they still have Petunia, I will try a different shade next time. They also have a variety of other lipsticks including the Duo which has a daytime and nighttime shade in one, one shade on either side of the bullet. Not sure how that will work out if you don’t use each shade at the same rate, but an innovative idea nonetheless.

  • Lancome Pressed Powder Compact: Like the Lola lipstick, the gold embossed pressed powder compact from Lancome is OLD. I don’t remember when I bought it, but I must have liked it because it’s completely empty! The compact is so pretty, I hate to throw it out but I don’t really have a use for it. Repurchase? It’s possible there are refills, but I seldom use powder these days on my dry skin.

Beauty Tools

  • Swisspers Premium Cotton Rounds: As I’ve mentioned before, I have been buying a big box of about 8 sleeves at Costco over the years. Now my head has been turned by Koh Gen Do Pure Cotton and my new flirtation with the cotton pads from Muji, but I still like these rounds and I use them for applying toner and for removing nail polish. Repurchase? I have several more sleeves left.

Product Tally

In April, I used up 10 products. I used up 18 in March, 19 in February, and 17 in January. My total now is 64 – almost 2/3 of the way to my goal, and we’re only 4 months into 2019. I’m feeling confident that I’ll make my goal of 100 empties!

Expired Products and Products I Don’t Like

I may not go into detail on each of these products because some of them, I don’t really remember. I’ve gotta go through and throw out/recycle even more expired products in my stash.

  • Wander Beauty Unlashed Volume & Curl Mascara: I got this tube in my Ipsy Plus box a couple of months ago, and I was excited to get it. I had seen this tube – a literal tube – everywhere online and lots of women really like it. Often the contrarian, I didn’t have good luck with it. I dislike the oddly curved bristle wand. Mostly, I disliked the formula that has fibers in it. I’m not a fan of fiber mascaras, so I am tossing this since I used it a number of times.
  • Revlon Just Bitten Lip Tint: This lip tint is quite a few years old. I used to love lip tints till I realized that they dried out my lips. While I loved the natural red lip look, it bled a bit into my lines and it wasn’t comfortable on my lips so I seldom used it. Gotta go.
  • Revlon Colorstay Glacis Mineral: I bought this a couple of years ago because I hoped it would be an opaque, affordable lipgloss, and the color was pretty. Unfortunately, it wasn’t as opaque and as deep a shade as I hoped, and it tasted like chemicals, so I never wore it. Gotta go.
  • Clinique Lipstick, Extreme Pink: I got this lipstick in a Clinique gift with purchase at least a few years ago. I’m sure it was nice, but I didn’t use it enough, and now I have others I like more. Bye bye!
  • Nordea Peach & Mango Lip Balm: I received this lip balm sample from an artisan who I used to buy handmade soap and fragrance oil from. She sent this lip balm along for me to try. I think I forgot that I had it, and now it’s old and should be tossed.
  • Sephora All-Over Color Eyeshadow Single: This metallic green pressed powder shadow single is super old and kind of dry. Again, I forgot I had it. It’s too old to use, and I have many better green shadows now.
  • Smashbox Single Eyeshadow, Bronze: Again, I forgot I had this. Before I began blogging, I mostly bought eyeshadow singles of shades I liked rather than buying palettes. In fact, I still like shadow singles! This bronze is really pretty and smooth. Somehow, the case that the pan is in is completely sticky. I wonder how did that happen. Oh well!

That’s it! Used up 10 products that go toward my Project Pan goal and tossing 7. Not bad! BTW, please check out Renu’s video on Cosmetopiadigest.com to see her progress on Project Pan.

What have you used up this month? Are you attempting to destash expired or unused makeup?

  1. Good review! I just tossed old lipsticks and eye products too. I received a couple of UD lipsticks at my Granddaughters baby shower on Sunday. (Thanks Kim). So I may be tossing more as these will go in my stash.

Okay, question for you. I am in search of a self tanning product for my white legs. Every one I have used in the past leaves such streaks. Do you use one?

    1. That’s great that you’re destashing too. How nice to get UD lipsticks at the baby shower! I don’t use self-tanners, although I did receive a travel size in my Ipsy bag a couple of years ago, and I did like that one. I don’t remember the name of it, but I’ll see if I can find it. Marcia at Beauty Info Zone just reviewed a product that evens out skin tone on legs, arms etc. called AllEven that is temporary rather than a tanner. It looked good in her pix, but it’s pricey. In the meantime, here’s an article that you might want to check out with products at all price points: https://www.harpersbazaar.com/beauty/skin-care/advice/g3599/best-sunless-tanners/

  2. ZOMG. I need that Lola lipstick. It is SO stunning! I’ve never heard of this brand, why did they have to fold? They should be at the top of the pyramid! I hope you keep the Lancome compact as a (future) collectible. I’m SO envious that you’re two-thirds of the way home. I’m not even halfway through!

    1. I made a mistake, Renu! Lola Cosmetics is still in business. I am going to update my post with the info now. They changed the packaging color to black unfortunately but it still comes with the hidden mirror in the tube cap! I decided to toss the Lancome compact, because it wasn’t that nice compared to others I have/had. BTW, I will add your link to my post!!

  3. I loved Lola products mainly because I was thrilled to have that packaging. I loved seeing the little hearts on products. I tossed my last one when I moved but I was reluctant to do so. Thanks for the information about Humboldt. I’ll be sure to save my almost empty body butter.

  4. Blackberry Coconut Mousse sounds delightful- I need to try that out!!
I go through a lot of Swisspers rounds and was upset when I went to Costco and they weren’t stocking it! Thankfully they started again so I now have a bunch on hand as well!

    1. Jen, the Humboldt Soap Co. Blackberry & Coconut Body Mousse is truly divine. It has a very heady scent that can be strong in the beginning, ut I adore it and always get compliments when I wear it. I also noticed that Swisspers disappeared from Costco for quite a while, but they were back last time I was there a couple of weeks ago.

  5. Very impressive pile of empties and purged products! I have been purging all sorts of makeup and skincare that has expired or that I don’t like. I really need to get back to my empties posts!

  6. You’re doing great at using up so many products! I need to follow your lead and toss a bunch of things tha I don’t care for or have expired. I think you’re going to meet your goal at 6 months!😊

  7. I saw the new scents from Humbodlt and I can’t wait to order them. Just trying to finish up my tubs!

    1. Thanks for the head’s up, Michelle! I hadn’t seen the new scents yet. I’m most interested in cherry almond and tropical coconut! I’ve got 2 empty tubs and another one almost finished. Yay for refills!

  8. That’s amazing that you used so much! The soft touch / matte packaging on the Smashbox packaging breaks down after a while and gets sticky. It’s annoying given the price if their products.

    1. Thank you, Bailey, for the info on the Smashbox container. I had never heard anything like that – how weird, but I’m so glad you told me about it!
