May and June are such busy months with all kinds of events going on: Mother’s Day celebrations, graduations, weddings, and more. Looking my best and feeling confident at social events includes tuning up my smile. I’ve had good results with Luster Premium White teeth whitening kits in the past so I was eager to try two more of their kits.

The kit I have been most eager to try is Luster Pro Light. I saw ads for their blue light over the past few years, and I always intended to buy it. This winter my teeth have been looking decidedly yellow, and I knew I needed to take action. What I love about Luster Premium White is that their products are easy to use. I have a small mouth and a terrible gag reflex, and the pricey kits with trays are just too big to fit in my mouth. I need something that works for me.

Luster Pro Light contains:

  • Power White PRO Toothpaste
  • Accelerinse Pretreat
  • Stain Lifting Serum
  • Luster Pro Light.

I have tried the Power White PRO Toothpaste in the Luster A.M./P.M. kit, and I like it a lot.

It is a white minty toothpaste with fluoride that makes my teeth feel really clean and my mouth feel fresh. It is enamel safe. I have my own Phillips sonic toothbrush that I use to brush my teeth. I also have the Luster sonic toothbrush from the Luster Power Pro kit.

After brushing, I swish the blue, minty Accelerinse Pretreatment around my mouth for about 15 seconds. Then I paint the clear minty Stain Lifting Serum onto each of my teeth – that takes all of about 30 seconds to do.

Finally, I use the battery-operated Dual Energy Xenon Pro Light. This type of light is supposed to be 3 times faster to see results with than a regular LED light. To use it, I put my lips around the light to make it easier to keep it in place. The device has a 2 minute timer to let me know when the time is up. Very easy to do.

The entire process takes me less than 10 minutes. I could do it in 5 if I hurried.

A key piece of the process is one that I missed, silly me. I was in such a rush to get started, and I had used their similar kit without the Pro Light a couple of years ago with good results, so I thought I knew what I was doing. What I missed by not looking at the instructions was the Shade sheet.

guide to tooth color to be used before, during and after using Luster Premium White Pro Light teeth whitening kit

Before you start the process, you’re supposed to hold the guide with 21 different tooth shades in front of your teeth, and mark off your starting point. As you perform the treatments, you can monitor the lightening effect. That makes so much sense rather than relying on memory, as I have been doing.

Luster recommends that you do at least 10-20 treatments. The box says that you can “lighten your teeth by 6 shades in 30 minutes”.  I think that refers to 15 treatments of 2 minutes each with the Pro Light. So far, I have done about 13 treatments, and I intend to keep going till I use up the Accelerinse and Stain Lifting Serum.

My teeth look whiter/lighter to me than when I started, though my two largest front teeth are the two that seem to be the most difficult to whiten. With the shade chart, my front teeth are about a 7 or 8, and the rest of my visible teeth are a 4. Not bad. I wish I had used the chart when I first started. I also wish that I had taken both photos on non-sunny days. The first photo the sun was out, and the second is from a grey day.

Luster recommends that you do the treatments as close together as possible, especially within the first week.  They also say you can do more than one treatment per day, and you can even do many treatments in one day if you’re in a real rush to see results. I haven’t tried that. In fact, I have been away a lot during the procedure, and I wasn’t able to take the products with me. Next week, I will be home and will get back to an everyday procedure.

BTW, I have very sensitive teeth. The kits with whitening strips from other brands were so painful for me to use on a regular basis that I had to abandon them. Luster Premium White products do not cause tooth sensitivity for me at all which is why I keep going back to them.

As I mentioned above, I had tried the kit without the blue light in the past, and I do think the Pro Light makes a difference in terms of seeing results sooner.

I think the Pro Light kit is the gold standard of kits from Luster Premium White. Luster products are sold on the Luster Premium White website, at Bed Bath & Beyond and Walgreens. The Pro Light kit is priced around $43.99. Presently (till Sunday, May 19, 2019), Luster Premium White is including a free sonic toothbrush and the A.M./P.M. kit with purchase of the Pro Light kit, a $33 value!

Luster Now!

box for Luster Premium White Now! Instant Whitening Toothpaste

Luster Now! Instant Whitening Toothpaste is a minty fluoride blue-colored gel toothpaste that provides instant whitening by removing surface stains. I think it’s the same toothpaste that came with the Luster A.M./P.M. kit (right now you can get a free sonic toothbrush with the kit for $13.99 on the Luster website) that I wrote about here.

The blue gel toothpaste was developed by dentists using “Blueverite technology”. Blueverite offsets the yellow in teeth giving the appearance of whiter teeth.

Though it says you can get “visibly whiter teeth after just 1 brushing”, I think it’s most useful to use in conjunction with the Luster Pro Light kit. For instance, I use the Pro Light kit in the morning and then use the Now! toothpaste at night. Or it could be used to help maintain the lightness achieved with the Pro Light kit.

Luster Now! Instant Whitening Toothpaste is priced around $7.99 for 4 oz. Again, it is sold on the Luster Premium White website, at Bed Bath & Beyond and Walgreens.

Have you used any of the kits from Luster Premium White? Would you give it a try?

  1. I also have sensitive teeth and was curious how this was working for you. I’m curious is daily use would be too much for me or if it would still be ok….

    1. I have very sensitive teeth, and I haven’t had any sensitivity. Also, you definitely don’t have to do it every single day, but I think if you do, you start to see results faster. I used this kit before but without the blue light, and that worked for me too. I think the blue light makes it work a little faster though it could be my expectation.

  2. I have a gagging reflex too so I’ve kept away from machines like this but you’ve given me hope. I wouldn’t use it more than once a day but I’d love to use it.

    1. For some reason, Marcia, holding the blue light at my teeth doesn’t bother me. You don’t have to put your lips on it, but it makes it easier to keep your teeth exposed to the light rather than smiling very hard for 2 minutes, lol. While it doesn’t make my teeth bright white like people who use the trays from the dentist, this is good enough for me. It makes a noticeable difference.

    1. I like the Luster Pro Light kit the best so far, but even without the light, I had good results with the Pro White toothpaste, Accelerinse & Stain Lifting Serum. The light did seem to hurry things along a bit

  3. This looks like a great system. I only worry that the whitening systems cause sensitivity.

    1. I have the world’s most sensitive teeth. I cannot use any of the whitening strips from Crest, Colgate etc. Luster is the only brand that I can use with no sensitivity problems.
